14.01.2022 TCM is based on theories about qi, a vital energy, which is said to flow along channels called meridians and help the body to maintain health. In acupuncture, needles puncture the skin to tap into any of the hundreds of points on the meridians where the flow of qi can be redirected to restore health. Treatments, whether acupuncture or herbal remedies, are also said to work by rebalancing forces known as yin and yang. The World Health Organisation - WHO will next year recognise traditional medicine in its influential global medical compendium. 03.01.2022 "The beautiful wind-blowing, leafy season of Autumn is a time to clear the excess of heat that remains in the body post-summer. Yang is decreasing and it is time to nurture the yin, building the body fluids. Eat soups not salads! Did you know that:... Pungent herbs open and clear the lungs Heat in the lungs is common in Autumn, so use cooling pungents such as peppermint or chamomile to clear heat. To clear yellow/green or hot phlegm use cooling damp herbs such as watercress, daikon, radish and seaweed. For white or cold phlegm use warm damp herbs such as fennel, garlic, onions, ginger, cayenne and horseradish." Dr Faye Stone This beautiful photo was taken by Carolyn Pixie Samuel

01.01.2022 The kidneys and bladder are associated with winter, as they have a relationship to cold. In winter we eat warm and well-cooked foods. Winter pain in the shoulders or knees, whether it is arthritic or not, can be eased by foods that support the kidneys and are easy to digest. These include cloves, black pepper, fennel, walnuts, onions, black beans, and even a little "medicinal" liqueur mixed with herbs next to a log fire of course!
