09.01.2022 If you want to make a difference there is still time to get to the Melville council chambers tonight before half six and show your support the public submission period for the ‘URBNSURF Perth’ surf park proposal at Tompkins Park closed last Friday. The results from the submission period have been published with over 3,000 submissions having been received in favour and about 600 submissions against. Importantly, no alternative, valid proposals for the site were received by Co...uncil. As a result, a recommendation has been made by the executive officers of City of Melville that Council agree to enter into a conditional lease of the Tompkins Park site with Wave Park Group to develop ‘URBNSURF Perth’. This recommendation will be discussed by Council at a briefing meeting to be held at 6.30pm next Tuesday night (7 Feb), and will then go to a final decision at the Council meeting to be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 21 Feb. There has been some opposition to the proposal from local residents, based largely around concerns for the environment. In reality, their efforts are to prevent due process from occurring and for the proposal to be quashed before these matters of concern can be examined in any real detail. It is important that councillors are not swayed by a relatively small group of local dissenters and that they recognise the significant community support for the proposal and the opportunities the proposal brings. The address for the meeting is Melville Civic Centre, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon. If you can attend from 5.30pm, that will ensure you are able to get a seat at the meeting. The meeting will likely run for about note, you don’t need to be City of Melville residents). If you are able to attend, could you please reply confirming your availability so we can keep a record of how many supporters we have attending. You might also be interested to read a news article on the project which appeared in the local paper on Friday - http://www.communitynews.com.au//wave-park-postal-ballot-/. Thanks again for your continuing support and looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday night if you can make it along.
