24.01.2022 Making sure the focus on my health in my Wheel of Life includes family time. #WheelofLife #health #wellbeing #family

23.01.2022 This year so far has not been a good one for doctors. An alarming number have chosen to end their life due to untold pressures from work, home and other places. Part of the issue is the push from all quarters to 'succeed'. Many others, including numerous colleagues are under the pressure to appear 'successful' in all segments of their life, often when these expectations are totally unrealistic. The word 'success' has many meanings and is generally seen as a positive but when ...the expectations of what success means become unreasonable - to be THE best and biggest, to have THE best,THE biggest, and THE latest, to THE wealthiest, THE busiest - 'success' becomes an unhealthy ambition. The true value and lessons of life are not from our successes, but from what has been overcome to get there. And of course if you have experienced success, what comes next? At some point 'failure'. Taking in account this reflection, my aim is not to encourage people to aim for 'success', but to encourage them to thrive, regardless of their situation. I believe that this is a more worthy, and healthier, lifetime endeavor. So from today 'Dr. Liz' is about enjoying life, thriving and inspiring others to do the same.

20.01.2022 At a time when so many people including those in healthcare are facing unprecedented challenges, this topic chose itself - resilience. This first video is a brief introduction to my perspective on resilence, leading into my practical "ASAP" approach to help build resilience. Thank you for watching.

19.01.2022 Maintaining health with a busy lifestyle can be a challenge, especially when traveling. Here's how I am doing it this week.

17.01.2022 This is the second video in the Resilience Mini-series in which I describe my ASAP platform for building resilience. Acceptance is the first component. Happy for feedback and comments. If you find these videos of value, please feel free to share.

10.01.2022 Delivering my @AMAVICTORIA #Congress2017 keynote address on how to put 'health' and 'care' back into healthcare.

07.01.2022 Doctor burnout is a major healthcare crisis that needs to be addressed. This short article provides a link to a video of my keynote at this years AMA Vic Conference which I believe offers some understanding of the issue and how we can start developing solutions. https://youtu.be/wEUzPkH5jtU

06.01.2022 AMA Vic Conference is this weekend! Great list of speakers and topics. I will be talking about putting 'health' and 'care' back into healthcare.

05.01.2022 Well being of doctors is currently receiving a lot of attention. The 2013 Beyond Blue found doctors experience 10x the psychological stress of any other profession and suicidal ideation was double that of the found in the Australian population. Both these rates were higher in women doctors when compared to their male colleagues. To change this situation it is important for doctors to build new skills and new perspectives. I am delighted to be able to contribute to this as a speaker at the inaugural Australian Women of Medicine event, with our former Australian of the Year, Rosie Batty, as key presenter. I would encourage all women doctors, whatever stage of career they are in, to attend this event. Look forward to seeing you there! http://www.womenofmedicine.com.au/
