24.01.2022 Queenslanders have done a great job at slowing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and flattening the curve. Because of this, we can now slowly start to lift r...estrictions here in the sunshine state. Today, the Queensland Government has released a roadmap which outlines a phased approach to how and when this will happen. The impact of these changes will be assessed every four weeks at each ‘checkpoint’. If everyone continues to follow the restrictions and we keep seeing less cases, further restrictions will be lifted. However, if there is a significant increase in cases, restrictions may be reversed. It will be up to each and every one of us to continue practicing good hygiene, social distancing and common sense. Together we will get through this. To learn more about Queensland's roadmap forward visit: https://qld.health/Roadmap

23.01.2022 Download the COVID-19 App at https://www.covidsafe.gov.au This app is completely voluntary, and keeps a record only on your own phone of other people with the a...pp that you've been in close contact with (defined as 1.5m or less for 15 minutes). This info is only ever uploaded if two conditions are met - 1) you are diagnosed with Covid-19 and 2) you consent to the data being uploaded. It doesn't store your location, or GPS data, or any other information, other than your contact details in the event you are identified as a contact of a confirmed case. If you test positive to Covid-19, Public Health authorities can use the app to easily identify those people you've been in close contact with. Without the app this job is much, much more time consuming and difficult to do properly. Our medical peak bodies, the RACGP and the Australian Medical Association have endorsed it.

19.01.2022 Wondering how the two person rule works? For a residence or household, the number of people allowed to gather in that house is limited to the usual members ...of that household, plus two other visitors who are family or close friends. Please only leave your home for essential reasons - we've commented them below Update: We've noticed a number of people asking two very important questions about this post: 1. Does this mean I can make a social visit? 2. Are my children included in this count. The answers are: 1. For this weekend and the foreseeable future, we recommend only leaving your house and visiting others for essential purposes, for example providing them with assistance or support such as bringing them groceries they cannot purchase themselves, helping with medical care or helping them with urgent household tasks they are unable to do themselves. 2. The Home Confinement Direction states that only two people who do not live in a residence may visit at one time. This includes children and infants. We understand this can be difficult for families, however this rule is in place to protect all members of our community from the spread of COVID-19.

18.01.2022 Hey Queensland This weekend, new restrictions are coming into place that will enable you to travel within a 50km radius of your home for recreational purposes..., but it's not time to be complacent. We need your help to ensure we don't undo all of progress we have made so far. If you go out this weekend, please make sure you are: Socially distancing at all times Practising good hygiene Only going out with your family or as an individual with one friend + Staying within a 50kms radius of your home If everyone continues to follow the current restrictions and we keep seeing less cases, further restrictions may be lifted. But, if we don’t follow these measures, we may see more restrictions put in place to help keep Queenslanders safe.

15.01.2022 As we start to get back out there, it’s up to all of us to stay COVID free and do the 3. 1: Wash your hands as often as possible. 2: Keep your distance where yo...u can. 3: Join millions of Aussies helping our health workers by installing the COVIDSafe app. Don’t forget, if you have cold or flu-like symptoms, stay at home and speak to your doctor about getting tested. Together, we can reduce the risk of a second wave. www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-health-aler See more

15.01.2022 An inside look into setting up city-first testing for a worldwide pandemic They’ve been the frontline of COVID-19 testing in Townsville since Marc...h and team leaders Casie Payne and Susan Brown said they enjoyed the challenge of setting up Townsville’s dedicated testing site. Casie said that she didn’t know what to expect when she answered the call to lead the testing clinic. For me it was the opportunity to try something different, so I jumped at the chance, she said. It was a case of being involved in something that was affecting people locally, nationally and globally. What we were able to offer by leading the team screening and testing the community for COVID-19 was an opportunity to allay a lot of fear circulating locally. "That meant helping to calmly convey information to our community and carry out the instrumental step of screening and testing to establish what impact COVID-19 would have in Townsville. Susan said nothing could have prepared them for the numbers of people that would present to the drive-through clinic upon opening. We screened close to 200 people per day in the first week, she said. These numbers were indicative of the heightened anxiety in the community and we had a lot of people demanding to be tested. In addition to the sheer numbers of people being screened, the clinic relocation to Reid Park in early April posed geographical issues for the team. Distance from the hospital meant we had to be vigilant in ensuring we had all the required equipment that would usually be readily accessible when on a hospital site, Susan said. We also had to tackle the challenge of setting up the IT systems of a Queensland Health facility. Casie said despite the challenges, she was proud that Townsville had only recorded 24 cases of COVID-19 to date. The community has done a good job of preventing community transmission of COVID-19, she said. While we haven’t reached the end of the road, it is nice to know that our screening clinic has played a pivotal role in identifying those 24 cases. Casie said that she thanked the community for its respect when attending the drive-through clinic. We acknowledge it has been a difficult time but are so grateful to those who were courteous as we provided this service to the community, she said. Most people were genuinely thankful with one group of mates who were tested came back afterwards with cold drinks for the team which was so appreciated. We’d also acknowledge our administration team; without them we couldn’t do our job. Infection control nursing director Janine Carrucan thanked Casie and Susan along with the team of 25 who had worked at the clinic since March. It is no small feat to put yourself out there as the single point of contact for the community during a pandemic, she said. Casie, Susan and their team made what was a new challenge look seamless and they were instrumental to our organisation’s COVID-19 response.

14.01.2022 Easing of restrictions in Queensland today Queensland's stage-three restrictions kick in at midday and many people want to know what they can do.You'll be free to order a drink at the bar from midday. More people will be allowed in pubs, and community sport is back on. Here is the nuts and bolts of what people can do:... Private gatherings - including funerals, weddings and house parties - are opening up to a maximum of 100 people. Weekend and community full-contact sporting competition is back on as long as organisers follow a COVID-safe industry plan. Outdoor sport can go ahead, but physical distancing for spectators is essential. Indoor sport is on too but spectators are limited to one person per 4 square metres of space. Smaller businesses with less than 200 square metres of space can have one person per 2 square metres, up to 20 people at a time. Theatres and concert venues are opening too, likewise at half capacity or one person per 4 square metres (whichever is the largest number). Other places can also open with a COVID-safe plan, including casinos and gaming rooms, nightclubs, food courts and massage businesses. (ABC)

13.01.2022 BREAKING: Here's our back to school plan for Queensland students. Students in Kindy, Prep, Year 1, Year 11 and Year 12 will return to school on May 11, while s...tudents in Years 2 to 10 will continue remote learning at home. We will review the situation on May 15, with the goal to return the remaining students on May 25 if low COVID-19 transmission rates continue. Children of essential workers and vulnerable children are still able to attend school. A sensible and gradual return is only possible because of Queensland’s success in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Compare our efforts to what has happened in other parts of the world and Queenslanders should feel very proud. Keep up the good work! #coronavirus

09.01.2022 From Sunday, 10 May, restrictions are easing around visiting family and friends. You can have two visitors (who are from different households) or up to ...five visitors who are from the same household . This is regardless of how many people live in your home . There is no restriction on how far you can travel to visit another household in their home. However, you are not allowed to go out and about in that community. You must go straight there and stay there. This is exciting and will be welcome news for many but remember, we can not become complacent. Social distancing and good hygiene is still crucial. If we see an increase in cases, these restrictions may be reversed.

09.01.2022 COVID-19 detected at Townsville wastewater plant Townsville Public Health Unit has detected traces of COVID-19 in the Cleveland Bay Wastewater Treatment Pla...nt in Townsville. The plant serves the city and southern suburbs of Townsville. Townsville Public Health Unit director Dr Steven Donohue said the benefits of sewage testing is that it could indicate the possibility of undetected cases of COVID-19 in the region. People shouldn’t be alarmed but they shouldn’t be complacent either, if you are sick go and get tested and then stay home until you get your results, he said. This surveillance testing is extremely sensitive. It picks up tiny pieces of genetic material (RNA) of COVID-19. This is dead virus material so there is no risk to the community or to drinking water. This is our first positive sample and we will be doing further testing over the coming days to confirm this detection. Dr Donohue said it was imperative the community understood that the positive result does not necessary mean there are active cases in Townsville. There are no known outbreaks or active cases in Townsville and hasn’t been for some time, he said. However, this positive sample means that we cannot rule out the possibility that there was or is an infected person in the area who has not been tested. It could also be an indication that someone who has previously had COVID-19 has visited our area and is still shedding the dead virus. This detection should serve as an alert and warning to the community to be vigilant for Covid-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, or loss of smell or taste. Dr Donohue said anyone with any symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how mild, should get tested immediately. Dr Donohue also said there had begun to be some myths circulating the Townsville community about testing for COVID-19. Getting a test does not mean you have to quarantine for 14 days, you just have to go home until we text your results which takes about 24 hours, he said. People who tested negative for COVID-19 in March or April can still contract the disease and if they get sick again, they should get tested again. Free, convenient and confidential COVID-19 testing is available across Townsville at: 1300 Smiles Stadium COVID-19 drive-through community assessment clinic The 1300 Smiles COVID-19 community assessment clinic is located in the Eastern carpark of the 1300 Smiles Stadium in Kirwan.
