23.01.2022 We're putting One Foot Forward to support mental health research! Did you know that 1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year? In fact, every day in Australia, 8 people will die from suicide. Mental illness can be debilitating and can have a devastating impact on not only those living with it, but those around them. ... But this October, we’ll be putting one foot forward to make a difference to the lives of people touched by mental illness and suicide. We're fundraising to raise money for life-changing research into treatment and prevention of mental illness, as well as vital support services. Support our challenge and help change the lives of people living with mental illness. 20.01.2022 When it comes to pursuing our goals and doing the things we’re most passionate about, we can often be our own worst enemy. We fill our brains with so much negative self-talk that, eventually, we begin to believe it. - "Because I carry guilt, I should be punished." - "Because I feel ashamed, I should hide/suppress my feelings." - "Because I feel broken, I need to try and appear whole."... - "Because I blame myself, I should carry everyone else's burdens as well." - "Because I feel unloved, I need to be show people that I'm perfect." - "Because I feel imperfect, I need to imitate other people in order to feel worthwhile." The way we speak to ourselves has a direct impact on how we see ourselves and how we navigate our way through the world. We need to change our inner voice. Our words have power - not only for ourselves but for those around us. Every word we speak produces an effect in ourselves and in others. #psychology #mentalillness #mentalwellness #selfsabotage #selfcare #selflove #selftalk

17.01.2022 It's National Psychology Week and the aim is to increase public awareness of how psychology can help Australians lead healthier, happier and more meaningful lives. About 20% of the Australian population have chronic pain, and psychological treatment helps improve functioning and reduce the distress associated with pain. This year the aim of Psychology Week 2020 is to increase public understanding of how psychology can help with pain. As part of Psychology Week 2020, the Aust...ralian Psychological Society is holding a free public online event on the topic of pain on Tuesday 10 November at 8.00 pm AEDT. Psychologists and other experts, including a consumer representative who has direct experience in living with chronic pain, will talk about pain and its treatment. For further information go to www.psychweek.org.au/webinar/ #psychologyweek #wollongong #chronicpain #mentalhealth

16.01.2022 - You will not receive closure in every situation, but you can create it for yourself. - Most of what other people do is about them, not about you. - Some things cannot be explained. - Some people won't apologise because they can't. - You cannot change people, no matter how much you think they need to change. People change themselves.... . #psychology #change #selflove #selfcare #acceptance #mentalwellness See more

04.01.2022 It's a simple question that can be very difficult to answer. But it's an important one none the less. Self-care can seem scary, especially when it's not something that we're used to engaging in. But it's so important. How have you been kind to yourself this week? How have you honoured your needs? Let us know in the comments! #mentalillness #mentalillnessawareness #mentalwellness #psychology #depression #anxiety #ocd #ptsd #recovery #healing #selfcare #selflove

03.01.2022 Often in life, it's all too easy to carry guilt for things that we have no reason to feel guilty about. And while the ability to offer a genuine apology when it's genuinely needed is essential to the longevity of our relationships, there are some things we should never feel the need to apologise for. 1. Never apologise for loving someone. 2. Never apologise for saying no. 3. Never apologise for chasing your dreams.... 4. Never apologise for honouring your own needs. 5. Never apologise for ending a toxic relationship. 6. Never apologise for your imperfections. 7. Never apologise for standing your ground. 8. Never apologise for taking your time to offer a response or make a decision. 9. Never apologise for feeling the way you feel. 10. Never apologise for telling the truth. #psychology #apologies #guilt #guiltcomplex #emotionalabuse #mentalillness #mentalwellness #selfcare #selflove #chooselove #recovery
