21.01.2022 Posted @withregram @lifesavingvic VICTORIAN YOUTH STRATEGY ~ HAVE YOUR SAY! The Victorian Government is inviting members aged between 12-25 years to contribute to the development of the Victorian Youth Strategy. With young Victorians (12-25 years) making up 18% of the population, government wants to make the state of Victoria the best place to be for young people. No two young Victorians are the same - young people have a wide range of identities, personalities and varied... experiences that combine to influence their journey through life. A new Youth Strategy for Victoria will give young people, organisations and the broader community opportunities to work with government to direct their work in the youth space now and into the future. From October to December 2020, young Victorians are invited to have their say. Do this by: Responding to an online survey hosted here: https://bit.ly/31NZko2 Emailing a written submission through to: [email protected] Participating in a youth or community online forum: https://bit.ly/31JhUxy . . . #youthstrategy #youngpeople #youthwork #youthvoice #youthvoicesmatter #community

17.01.2022 What a year this continues to be. Firstly, I trust you, your family members and friends are keeping safe and well during the pandemic. Since late March, the clubrooms have been shut and all activities suspended. The main impact of this was the cancellation of Awards Night and other planned social events as well as the loss of revenue through regular hire of the function space. We have been fortunate that the worst days of the pandemic were not during the peak summer season. A...s with all that we have experienced in the last 6 months, with various changes to our behaviours and work practices, with social distancing and protection, this coming season will also be different. Life Saving Victoria (LSV) have been working hard over these last few months to support and provide clubs with necessary COVID Safe practices and equipment. The dynamic and fluid situation of the pandemic means that nothing is definite. We all wait for the Victorian Government to announce the lifting of restrictions based on meeting key criteria. There are planned scenarios for patrolling, training and the running of the Nippers program with the variation of these restrictions. During October, LSV will continue to provide guidance and information based on the Victorian Governments decisions. The committee is in the process of making the club COVID Safe, and are discussing our own plans about which activities may be permissible at the club. October is when membership renewal occurs. The committee has not set a date for membership renewal at this stage as we wait until the Goverment’s announcement later this month. The upcoming season will be different, the extent of changes required is yet to be seen. There will be more communication of these announcements when decisions are finalised over the next weeks. Take care, Lindsay - President

16.01.2022 Good luck to our Year 12 students Jemima, Kaylah, Mickey and Niamph with their final examinations in November. It has been a different year with the challenge of online learning. All the best to any other VCE students doing a Unit 3/4 subject.

15.01.2022 NIPPERS UPDATE Given the evolving situation over the course of this year, the Committee have had to consider numerous options to coordinate a Nipper program for this season based on guidelines from LSV and club resources of both equipment and volunteers. The option we are proposing is dramatically different from the regular Saturday morning program. The proposal for this season is a 5-day program from Monday to Friday for 1.5 hours from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Each 5 day progra...Continue reading

09.01.2022 NIPPERS UPDATE I trust that you and your family continue to keep safe and well. The chaotic year involving lock downs and restrictions continue to have an impact in various ways. LSV have set guidelines and requirements for Life Saving Clubs in their use of club facilities, undertaking patrols and running of programs such as Nippers. These guidelines have been based on Government permitted policies and likely predictions of case numbers. Only recently have the guidelines ...for Nipper programs been released. These guidelines have discussed the permitted number of participants, activities, allocated beach space per group, use of boards and other resources as well as the number of water safety required. Our traditional program involves the 8 age groups rotating from one activity to another sharing boards, tubes and other equipment with the same water safety people running a particular activity. Members of the Nipper Sub-Committee that is led by Guy and myself discussed the implications and feasibility of the LSV guidelines. It was decided that the traditional program does not meet the guidelines due to the main issues of shared usage of boards and the number of water safety people required per age group. The Nipper Sub-Committee are meeting soon to discuss the possibilities of running the Nipper program to manage safe handling of the equipment, water safety and age group managers, movement on the beach as well as the possibility of alternative times. Whatever the outcomes that are decided, the Nipper program will be severely impacted. No doubt, like you, LSV and the Club are waiting anxiously for the possible lifting of restrictions on Sunday 8th November and what this will mean for Life Saving. Consequently, the guidelines set by LSV may change. Renewal of a Family Nipper Membership will be postponed until further notice. Fortunately for Dromana Bay, the Nipper program does not start until January so we will have more time to determine and optimise the Nipper program. Thank you and take care Lindsay

06.01.2022 Last week, two of our Year 12 students, Emma (School Sport Captain) and Sienna (Captain of Swimming) represented Ivanhoe Girls' at the annual GSV Sport Captain...'s Breakfast. They were honoured to participate in a workshop with Meg Durham, a wellbeing educator and coach, who spoke about making an impact as leaders, about the importance of courage, and about how strong leadership can often be found in the smallest gesture such as kindness, or a friendly smile. To quote poet Maya Angelou: I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel. #OurGirlsSpeakForThemselves

02.01.2022 Staying strong and united amid uncertainty has been at the forefront of many LSV actions taken over the past few months in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wh...ilst it hasn’t been an easy time all of us have seen our usual lives and livelihoods upended in one way or another - it has also been a time that has seen us leap into action to help maintain the health and wellbeing of our members, volunteers, staff, licensees, partners, participants and the broader public.
