11.01.2022 ‘Resilience’ means many things infrastructure built to better withstand floods and cyclones; diversified industries and businesses that are less susceptible to economic shocks; communities with the services and mechanisms in place to quickly respond to disaster, and people who are able to lean on each other and draw on personal strengths to get through difficulties and hardships. We recently caught up with Teresa Hudson, Coordinator of Townville’s Community Information Cent...re, to talk about their continued work supporting communities affected by the 2019 floods. She told us what resilience means to her. 02.01.2022 It was a productive day at the North West Recovery and Resilience Summit at Julia Creek. There was a broad representation from across the communities, government and non-government - from Mayors to chopper pilots flying in supplies to properties cut off by floodwaters, local GPs, clinicians and people who provide on the ground support like the Agency’s Regional Recovery Officers. All agreed that it’s important we keep talking about the mental health and wellbeing of people wh...o went through the 2019 North Queensland floods to make sure they have the right support at the right time, and that those solutions are locally-led. We look forward to our continued partnership with Western Queensland Primary Health Network, Northern Queensland PHN and the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (Qld Section) to keep the conversations going.
