24.01.2022 Some pool-croquet trickshots! #isocroquet

24.01.2022 Does anyone know if this is real?

24.01.2022 As regards Cairnlea. I think the basic premise of the existence of this venue is wrong. What we have is the only venue in Australia with the courts and facilit...ies to host international events, why does the cost of running and maintaining this venue fall to VCA?. Croquet isn't big enough for one state alone to carry this burden. VCA could gift Cairnlea to ACA and then pay ACA court fees for state events and Brimbank Club continue as is. It could be rebranded as Australian Croquet Centre, with responsibility for maintainence and operations falling to ACA. I speak here from personal experience with the National Folk Festival. The NFF used to be held in a different state each year with the local state body hosting it. It was a failing model, it never made money, each state folk association went into debt and by the time they recovered it was time to run another festival, as a result the state bodies were always in debt and having doubts about the wisdom of hosting another festival, the festival was virtually run by love of music. The National body realised they had a big problem, so they proposed to stop rotating and hold the Festival in Canberra every year. I was at the meeting there was a lot of opposition, but the committee asked for alternatives, there weren't any. As a result the NFF has been held in Canberra for since 1993 and has grown exponentially and is now a world premier event. As I see it VCA is now in the same position and national responsibility for Cairnlea is the one long term viable solution. The other solution is to sell Cairnlea and find a sporting complex with good facilities and the space to build 4/6 good courts, much like Yarrawonga. Of course this would deprive the whole country of the ability to host international events at a premier venue and it would be years before VCA had good courts. I suppose we really have to decide what we actually want before moving in any direction.

23.01.2022 The synthetics installation has moved on quickly, assisted by better weather the last couple of days, and this afternoon the last bit of turf, namely our start ...corner (hoop 4 south eastern corner) was put in place. Weather permitting with the final fill spreading and tidy up, we expect to have our first game on the new surface this coming Tuesday. Good press coverage is expected. See more

15.01.2022 As promised yesterday here are a few images from our synthetics installation. Our local member, Dugald Saunders, came down to inspect progress and is seen here ...on the first turf roll our. The nice colourful square will be the kickoff corner, one for each court. Another one is a close-up of the turf surface. I know this doesn't say much other than looking pretty, but we believe we got the choice of weave right. We shall see, of course. Finally a shot of the installation of the hoop bases. And yes, I know this will be of much interest too all. I promise the full details will come on our website shortly. See more

12.01.2022 Who says croquet is for the nerds???!!!

12.01.2022 Well, we have arrived! This morning, 9am exactly, members lined up at our new synthetic courts and each hit a ball onto the lawn. There was good press coverage,... including a drone and tv news. Before anyone started we did a speed test and will repeat this once we have played the surface for a few days. Results will be published. Now give us a couple of weeks to thoroughly test it out and I'll tell more. See more

12.01.2022 We had a visit from Lachlan who is with the Drouin Police at our twilight session this afternoon. In the photos is Lachlan getting a few tips on how to play the game, it’s so nice to have a social call from a member of the local police instead of them coming along on business which has happened a few times. It would be nice if Lachlan could come back and have a good go in the future.

11.01.2022 Looks like fun, even for us oldies!
