25.01.2022 Endometriosis is more common than we thought -it affects 1 in 10 women in reproductive age. Painful periods were once wrongly perceived to be a "normal" part of womanhood, and many suffered from endometriosis silently without getting proper diagnosis or treatment. The management strategies should be customised according to our symptoms, lifestyle and personal needs. Getting a specialist in endometriosis, who can support you and constantly revise and shape the treatment plan for this long-term condition, is also essential. Surgery is one of the effective treatments among many.

25.01.2022 Exchanging ideas on keyhole surgical techniques with a minimally invasive surgeon from France in an international medical conference Attending international conference is an imperative part of my career - it ensures that I am practising the most up-to-date medicine and providing world class care to my patients :)

25.01.2022 I am almost ecstatic to start working in Sydney again over the weekend! It is always a great joy to see my patients and catch up on their wellbeing. I am also pleased that a few patients travelled from overseas and interstate for laparoscopic surgery with me yesterday all went home happily as planned.... On top of these, the beautiful roses from one of the very sweet patients cheered me up, in addition to a music CD recorded by an extremely talented patient. Thank you Ready to "rock n roll" for 2017!

24.01.2022 Some love from my beautiful patients in 2017. Apologies if I missed some but each one of you is on my heart! I am so proud and grateful to be the gynaecologist and surgeon trusted by you Your stories will become inspirations to many - your strength, courage, positivity and optimism, just like how a Wonder Woman should be!

23.01.2022 Did you know? Starting in 2017, we only need to have Pap smear every five years, instead of every two years - Yay! This weekend instead of running my Saturday clinic, I headed to Adelaide to participate in a course on Pap smear management and colposcopy. Colposcopy is an essential endoscopic examination for women who have certain abnormal results on their Pap smear. As a colposcopist, I receive a high volume of referrals for abnormal Pap smear result every week; among which ...many would need surgical treatment. The course provides a platform for medical professionals to share our knowledge and practical tips in managing this condition. I love how we constantly seek ways to do things better!

23.01.2022 A good doctor should never stop to learn, train and study. Introducing pelvic nerve surgery to Australia is one of my major projects in the coming years. It is pioneered by a handful of European surgeons and not yet available in this country. This state-of-the-art technique can only be performed by advanced laparoscopic surgeons with top microsurgery skills and comprehensive knowledge of human pelvic anatomy. ... It will help girls and women who suffer from endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain, as well as those who need complex surgery to correct pelvic organ prolapse and remove masses in deep pelvis. Stay tuned.

If you still experience any difficulties in getting in touch, please email us at [email protected]. For clinic appointment, please ring our Chatswood clinic at 02 9411 3411. Once again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience.

22.01.2022 I am in New York for a few days for the World Robotic Gynaecology Congress. As a member of the American Association of Gynaecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), I have been keeping track of the robotic use in gynae surgery. This "Da Vinci" robot is without a doubt one of the most sophisticated tools that enable surgeons to perform precise and meticulous procedures with high stability. It is not absolutely essential for all cases but, to surgeons, having a robot is like upgrading th...e surgical facilities from Audi to Ferrari. With the cost coming down year by year, (think about the dropping price of smart phones!), I am very excited to incorperate this state-of-the-art technology to my patient care in the coming years. That being said, no surgical tools can replace the skills, knowledge and humanity of a good surgeon. I am very pleased to re-validate from this congress that our patient care is at the world standard. Even the best Ferrari needs a good driver!

20.01.2022 Dr Sarah Choi spoke on endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain in women at 2GB radio show, Nights with Steve Price. When someone around us suffers from severe menstrual cramp, chronic pain over pelvis, or fertility difficulties, please start the dialogue with them and take their problems seriously. Countless young girls and women are suffering in silence from endometriosis right at this moment. It is a such a common condition that it affects one in 10 women at 15-50 years of ...age. Yet few know or talk about it. There are certainly many treatments that can be offered by endometriosis specialists. Together we will "end endo"!

19.01.2022 Sarah + Da Vinci We are excited to announce the commencement of our regular robotic surgical service at Sydney Adventist Hospital. Whats more - No extra out-of-pocket technology cost* will be incurred for our patients to get access to the latest da Vinci system! Like laparoscopy, robotic-assisted procedures are minimally invasive surgery. They enable surgeons to operate inside the body through the smallest incisions possible. ... Robotic surgery can be used for endometriosis surgery, hysterectomy, myomectomy (removal of fibroid with preservation of uterus) etc. Please check out our other post to see the da Vinci robot in action! ...... Robotic surgery has been available in Australia for over a decade. Sadly, the technology fee used to cost thousands of dollars in addition to the regular surgical fee, making it largely unaffordable to most patients. Under the new arrangement, private patients under Dr.Chois care at Sydney Adventist Hospital (The San) will no longer need to pay this technology fee out of pocket. A not-for-profit organisation, the San is equipped with the latest version of Da Vinci Xi robotic system. Please make sure you are insured by health fund with private hospital cover. * compared to laparoscopic surgery.

19.01.2022 My passion is my work; And my patients constantly help me to keep my passion alive

18.01.2022 Do I need that large incision? In this day and age surgeons are trained to perform complex minimally invasive procedures (laparoscopic, robotic-assisted and/or ...vaginal). This offers you the advantages of faster recovery and a quick return to normal activity. When facing the need for surgery, you have the right to discuss and learn more about your surgeon - their experience, training, volume, complications, successes and preferred surgical approach. When an abdominal approach or a large incision is offered, we encourage you to seek a second opinion. There are now highly trained, high volume surgeons that can perform your surgery in a minimally invasive fashion. What may be too complex for one surgeon, might not be for another skilled minimally invasive surgeon. - Gaby Moawad, MD Gyno Recommendation | 1 of 5 http://www.choosingwisely.org//aagl-laparotomy-to-manage-/ #laparoscopy #choosingwisely #robotics #gynecoloogy #gynotalk #endometriosis

18.01.2022 Pain, period cramps, bowel disturbance, frustration in bed, relationship problems, infertility and so much more. Too many woman have suffered in silence. This should never be a normal part of womens lives. I often encourage my patients to speak out and let other women know there are treatments available and someone there to help. One of my lovely patients, who just had surgery with me for advanced-staged endometriosis that involved multiple pelvic viscera, exactly told me h...er story of how she suffered in pain for a decade; yet her family members and GPs dismissed her misery and even laughed at her for being weak We need to put this to an end. Together we empower each other and create a better world!

16.01.2022 From todays Australian newspaper. For years, morcellation has made it possible for women with big uterus and fibroids to have their troublesome mass removed by laparoscopic specialists through keyhole surgery, leading to quicker recovery, less pain and fewer wound complications compared to an open cut. Patients under my care can be reassured that we are one of the few centres in the nation that pioneer the "CONTAINED IN-BAG MORCELLATION" technique. Different from the traditional procedure, the entire in-bag morcellation process will take place in a large pouch that we introduce into the abdomen, eliminating the chance of any visible fragments spreading inside the abdominal cavity. This innovative technique has been share with Americans and Australian surgeons in major conferences and was well received.

16.01.2022 I wish you a very merry Christmas! Europe in winter is magical. As most of my patients and colleagues already know, being the awarded recipient of the Travelling Fellowship of the Year by AGES (Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery Society), I am currently in Negrar/Verona of Italy to practise in a specific technique of advanced endometriosis treatment. It is my huge pleasure to work with the prestigious International School of Surgical Anatomy.... I am excited about introducing this edge-cutting surgical technique to Australia, which would definitely help more women and girls suffering from complex surgical conditions, pelvic pain and fertility problems in this country. I look forward to seeing you again on my return in February 2017 and bringing you up-to-date on the experience. We are still in touch via email during the holiday seasons. May God bless you with joy, peace and love on this Christmas!

12.01.2022 I confessed that I am a much better surgeon than a social media influencer - but the cookies from my lovely patient today is just too pretty not to post!

11.01.2022 Caution - he will break a few hearts! This little charmer dropped by our clinic today with his lovely mom, who conceived him naturally after a complex fertility surgery with me last year. It is another day I got warmed from the inside out by heaps of hugs and kisses from many patients.... How much I LOVE being a gynae surgeon! (posted with permission from proud parents )

07.01.2022 We wonderwomen continue to empower each other! Happy International Womens Day!

06.01.2022 Most of the women who have endometriosis do not need surgery, but for those suffering from intratable pain, properly excising the pathology from the body can help to remove the root cause of pain and improve quality of life.

04.01.2022 A few snapshots of the gifts (among many) from my patients in my recent photo collection. I am extremely fortunate to have many lovely and amazing girls and women as my patients It is very rewarding seeing each of you getting better and embracing better quality of life.

04.01.2022 My mission at my surgery every day - I believe it has been accomplished today.

04.01.2022 My latest expert opinion published in a medical journal of the Royal Australian & New Zealand of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Free access to the full article for the public: https://www.ranzcog.edu.au//751-vol-17-no-4-summer-2015.ht... Preventing scarring and adhesions after pelvic surgery is an important topic but often overlooked. Pelvic adhesions can lead to problems like infertility and pelvic pain. Keyhole laparoscopic surgery is one effective way to minimize scar formation, thanks to its nature of delicate tissue handling, magnified vision, and precision in surgical dissection. Surgery is also the only effective way to remove these problematic adhesions. Such procedures can be challenging but in good hands the outcome can be impressive.

02.01.2022 Mrs Angelina Jolie-Pitt talked about her choice to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes with minimally invasive surgery. "You can seek advice, learn about the options and make choices that are right for you. Knowledge is power." This is what happens in our clinic every day - discussing the best evidence-based knowledge, offering options, supporting womens choices by providing the highest quality of care. Yes, this is exactly what I mean by EMPOWERING WOMEN.
