24.01.2022 In recent months our team has expanded and it is time to meet the crew! Introducing Ms.Amrit Kaur, a provisional psychologist (soon to be AHPRA fully registered) who has a special interest in working with children, adolescents and families. Her formal qualifications include a Bachelor in Psychological Studies (Honours) and a Master of Professional Psychology. She uses a diverse range of therapeutic techniques depending on the client’s presentation and goals, and her goal is ...to work together with clients in a collaborative way to find what best supports their needs. She may incorporate techniques from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Phenomenological enquiry with animal-assisted therapy. She has experience working with individuals with a wide range of issues related to including stress and coping, trauma, anxiety and depression. She loves spending time with animals at Epona Brae, as they all have unique personalities and can help us relax and regulate our emotions. She especially enjoys working with Dr Dakota and Gemma, who have often assisted people in grounding and regulating their emotions. See more

21.01.2022 Introducing Marnie Vertigan who has been with us for most of 2020. Marnie is an Educational & Developmental Psychologist with extensive experience working with a broad range of psychological, emotional and behavioural issues. Since completing her Master’s Degree in Educational and Developmental Psychology in 2011, she has worked for government and private sectors providing intervention and support for children, adolescents and adults, as well as their families and social netw...orks. She has specialised in assessment and intervention for children with developmental disorders; supporting and resourcing parents, families, and social networks; parent education and support; providing services to schools; and individual counselling and psychological intervention for mental health, emotional and behavioural concerns. Marnie has her own horses, and she is passionate about working with individuals and families to achieve positive outcomes, to develop resilience and social-emotional growth. She is also currently undertaking training and certification with the world-class Equine Psychotherapy Institute of Australia and is excited to combine her life-long love for horses with traditional psychological approaches to work towards greater benefits for clientele. 18.01.2022 Introducing Samantha Dax, who is a provisional psychologist currently completing a Masters in Clinical Psychology. Samantha has 3 years-experience working in a community mental health setting supporting young people experiencing complex mental health issues, and has also worked in crisis telephone counselling and support group facilitation. She works in a collaborative manner, meeting people where they are at, and allowing choice and autonomy in the therapy process. She has e...xperience helping clients experiencing a range of concerns including: self-harming, emotion regulation, interpersonal challenges, anxiety, depression and trauma. Her work utilises interventions and techniques from mindfulness, CBT, ACT, IPT, DBT and the structural dissociation model of trauma. 17.01.2022 Meet Melanie Bloomer, provisional psychologist. Melanie has a particular interest in working with clients with complex diagnosis or impacted by trauma, and she has worked with individuals from culturally and socially diverse backgrounds both in an individual and multidisciplinary team settings. Her expertise includes crisis counselling, working with adolescents and older clients, and her work is psycho-dynamically informed with a client-centred approach tailored to the individual. Melanie's therapeutic approaches include mindfulness techniques and psychodrama which she is excited to incorporate into her animal assisted work, in addition to traditional psychological therapeutic models. Melanie and cheeky Leah have hit it off already, and Melanie's sessions with the pony herd are always fun and innovative!

17.01.2022 Welcome to the team Mary Marriott! Mary is a registered psychologist, and completed her Masters of Educational Psychology at Melbourne University 15 years ago. She has since worked in the areas of developmental disability, and in the private, public and Catholic education systems. Mary has provided a range of cognitive, educational and developmental assessments to clients, and enjoys supporting children, parents, young adults and adolescents. She works in a fun and relaxed way to address a large variety of social, emotional, educational, behavioural, developmental and mental health concerns through effective evidence based treatments. Her two passions are horses and psychology, she loves the idea of working in animal assisted therapy in a nature based environment, and she and Dora have become a great team already!

16.01.2022 Welcome Ceara Nelson! Ceara is a provisional psychologist who has worked with children and young people in lots of different roles for the last twenty years, including teaching, caring, and mentoring. She completed a Master of Professional Psychology in 2019 and is currently completing a Master of Clinical Psychology. She has experience working with adults in a psychiatric hospital providing group and individual therapy aimed at building coping strategies and resilience from ...a recovery-based perspective. She has also worked with kindergarten and primary aged children at the Victoria University Psychology Clinic. She values creating a warm, compassionate and consistent approach that is person centred, aimed at supporting clients to navigate and manage the surprising and sometimes challenging situations that arise working with the animals and in their own worlds. Ceara frequently uses mindfulness, distress tolerance skills and cognitive behavioural therapy, but also draws upon a range of modalities including acceptance and commitment therapy, schema and psychodynamic therapy. She particularly loves working with Princess Leah, who is a reliable and caring pony who loves to play, run and explore. See more

07.01.2022 Congratulations to our amazing Amrit Kaur, who is now a fully registered psychologist! We look forward to supporting her as she forges a successful career in Animal Assisted Psychology! Amrit now qualifies for Medicare rebates for her work, and for a higher NDIS entitlement for her clients. Her next endeavour is advanced animal assisted therapy training with the prestigious EPI Institute. :)

07.01.2022 Wishing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year filled with love, joy and adventure to all our clients and friends at Epona Brae. 2020 has been a big year. We welcomed new arrivals of our wonderful psychology team - Amrit, Marnie, Ceara, Sam, Melanie and Mary, plus Leo and Ariana the kitties, Gemma pup, Charlie bunny and Abby-Angel the pony. We said goodbye to Queen Sugar baby, and adjusted to COVID-safe practices, stage 4, and Zoom sessions. Thank you to all those who allowed us to support them and share the journey this year. We look forward to returning to groups and a more "normal" COVID safe 2021. We are closed until Jan 28, 2021, but please contact Dr Traci should you have any queries or require support before then.
