20.01.2022 In the early 2000s, NSW became the first state to introduce drug dogs for targeting drug SUPPLY. Our new research (in The Conversation today) analysing all criminal incidents over the last decade shows: 86% incidents involve young consumers for use/possession (mainly very small quantities of cannabis/ecstasy - that is, the least harmful illicit drugs) < 5% involve supply... Time for a change? We think so. Read on to find out more: https://theconversation.com/its-time-to-change-our-drug-dog

09.01.2022 Hi all We’ve just released a new paper analysing the police use of drug detection dogs in NSW from 2008 until 2018. Take home message is it shows that in spite of expanded police powers and a stated objective of using dogs to target supply there is no evidence of increased detection of suppliers. Instead young people who use drugs remain the principal group detected via the policy.... Link below https://www.tandfonline.com//10.1080/10345329.2018.1556280
