25.01.2022 It's fascinating, yet weirdly disturbing all at the same time.
24.01.2022 First dose of Ascorbic Acid made to the frag system. We're really interested to see how the new Zoas react =)
24.01.2022 Our Cairns Marine coral broodstock arrived tonight (hand delivered by someone at the delivery company after a frantic call to them wanting to know where our delivery was) =D The Zoas aren't open yet, nor the Duncan or Euphyllia, but the Ricordea and Acans are simply gorgeous!
24.01.2022 Big news everyone! =D It's New Years Eve so we thought we'd elaborate on what we've been hinting at for 2016. We'll be opening by appointment in the coming New Year! =O... Our LFS Macawsome Pets is unfortunately closing at the end of January so we'll be taking on their marine fish and equipment business, as once they close procurement of fish etc... locally will be all but impossible. We'll have more info coming soon on when we will be open =)
23.01.2022 We kind of got our Christmas present a day early ^-^ She's a fully mature wild caught female Amphiprion ocellaris that our LFS has had since they started stocking marines about three years ago =)
22.01.2022 We're very sorry for being so quiet of late. Whilst moving the two six foot tanks and two three foot tanks to our facilty I threw my back out and haven't been able to move or do much. --Jamie
21.01.2022 How cool is that? Commercially available captive bred marine fish that aren't clownfish =D
21.01.2022 A really interesting read =)
20.01.2022 Wow, so tiny! ^_^
19.01.2022 Wow, those two blips in our pH and ORP are from the addition of Ascorbic Acid!
18.01.2022 Excuse us a moment while we go and drool over this! We always love seeing what the good people at Tenji are up to because they do some very cool installs =D
18.01.2022 First of the 3-foot tanks from Macawsome Pets moved into place (and damn was it heavy!). One more 3-foot tank and two 6-foot tanks to go!
17.01.2022 A wild collected 'Rotten Tomato' =O It's gorgeous (though we do love a good melanistic variant)!
17.01.2022 A bit difficult to see but we also got a handful of Chaetomorpha, which is now tumbling in our sumps chaeto chamber =D
15.01.2022 Nature at its finest!... At least clownfish nature ;) Truely lovely!
14.01.2022 Would you like to be notified as soon as we're ready for appointments to come and shop? Then click on our 'Sign Up' button and join our newsletter mailing list =D We'll let you know as soon as we are ready and stocked for all you're marine needs!
13.01.2022 It's really quite mesmerising.
13.01.2022 How about something a little bit cute to start your week off with? =D
13.01.2022 This morning we collected our 3 kilolitre saltwater storage tank! =D
13.01.2022 A hastily installed ZetLight Cam on our Gold Stripe Maroon clownfish broodstock tank, featuring the nice Euphyllia we got from Cairns Marine =) (we turned the lights back on to test the camera. The corals had gone to bed xD) We think they'll make good broodstock monitoring cameras when we get the rack up and running!
12.01.2022 Hmmm, that'll take some getting use to!
11.01.2022 We'd just like to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and to thank you all for joining us on our adventure! We hope you have a great weekend =D In the new year we have some exciting news coming so stay tuned ;)
11.01.2022 Our dry rock seeding system is coming together =) We'll end up with 880 litres or 1100 litres depending on how many barrels we use. We'll soon (relatively speaking) have 100% aquacultured live rock available! =D
11.01.2022 Today we picked up a 3500 watt generator for when our power goes out =) It should keep us out of trouble for the time being.
09.01.2022 Christmas is looking good for us =) We scored a nice 12 year old whiskey this morning! It'll come in handy for what we have planned for the coming year. Nothing beats a nice glass of whiskey after a hard days work ;) We hope you are having a wonderful day with family
08.01.2022 It's amazing watching chaetomorpha tumble around getting bigger and bigger! We got a small handful on the 17th of December and 11 days later its approaching the size of a child's basketball =)
08.01.2022 The electricians are here! Currently working on extra power points and installing the air conditioner =D
07.01.2022 Mark your calendars! =D
07.01.2022 This thing looks brilliant! No more filter sock maintenance =D
07.01.2022 A short video of our Christmas present =D
07.01.2022 A great opportunity for someone looking for a new career path! =D The Cairns Marine family is a great group of people.
06.01.2022 So, what do you do when you have a rising tank temperature thanks to high daytime temperatures, and your fish room air conditioning won't be installed until the new year? Why you open up the entire fish room and grab every fan you can find! This is a somewhat messy shot of part of the fish room tonight as we try to keep everything cool =)
06.01.2022 For those interested in Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) dosing here is the dose schedule and dosage rate we use =)
06.01.2022 We got our air conditioning unit yesterday! =D Now to get it installed.
06.01.2022 The dry rock seeding system is coming together nicely =D We're only going to be running three barrels for a total of 660 litres to begin with, but we can add the extra barrels to the system with ease should we need/want to.
06.01.2022 Sorry for the lack of updates. A continuing health problem has slowed down work here. However! This coming Friday we will be putting an equipment order in with Aquariums Australia, who are the exclusive importer/distributor of the following product lines: Maxspect LED Lighting Systems, ... RLSS Skimmers, Waveline Pumps and, Thrive Aquatics. Head on over to their website and have a look at what we can order for you (you won't be able to see prices, so you'll need to message us for that). If you would like something let us know and we'll add it to the order. PLEASE NOTE: if ordering something a deposit will need to be made before we submit our order. We hope you understand.
04.01.2022 Our pH stabilised after the initial doses of ascorbic acid to a pH of around 8 (our alkalinity sits around 8.48-8.64dKH), give or take. Our ORP however dropped to zero and didn't come back. We ended up dosing 2mL of 6% hydrogen peroxide to get a final rise overnight of 156, which we're happy with =) Just thought we'd share.
03.01.2022 We decided to start a new page to document our new venture into the world of #Koi =) All future updates about our efforts will be made there =D
02.01.2022 Here is a gorgeous snapshot of some Fiji and Tongan reefs for your Thursday enjoyment =D
