22.01.2022 WNSWLHD COVID-19 Update Please attribute to a WNSWLHD Spokesperson As of 11.00am Monday 3 August, the Western NSW Local Health District remains at 47 confirmed ...cases of COVID-19. It is critical that everyone in all our local communities continue to practice social distancing to minimise the risk of the transmission of COVID-19. This is important for everyone, but particularly for older people and people with health conditions that make them more vulnerable. Its also important that we protect our health care workers who we need to stay well to provide care to people who become sick with COVID-19. Right now, our message is very simple if you have any symptoms, even mild ones, arrange to be tested. We all need to keep our family and loved ones safe. To help stop the spread of COVID-19: - If you are unwell stay in, get tested and isolate - Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out - Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others - Wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance For advice and information about COVID-19 visit www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/diseases//coronavirus.aspx The latest information about COVID-19 cases across the WNSWLHD can be found here.

22.01.2022 Visitor policy has once again been amended to one visitor only per patient at any one time. This a WNSW LHD directive to keep patients and staff safe and to allow social distancing in the patient care areas. The safest thing to do is to choose your support person for your hospital admission. Then choose your back up support person for when they cant be there. That way there is less risk of exposure to you and your baby. ... We will ask for the names of your primary and back up support people on admission as the maternity ward doors will be locked. We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may bring but do fully support and follow area wide directives designed to keep mothers and babies safe.

19.01.2022 Please see strict new visitor guidelines for our unit. Thankyou for understanding.

17.01.2022 Its a tricky time for everyone at the moment with the restrictions that COVID -19 has brought about. Hopefully you have more time for going for walks or gentle online exercise classes. More time at home may lead to more smoking- but with financial strains as well- Have you thought about Quitting Smoking? The Quit for you-Quit for Two App Can help you along your journey. Quitting smoking can reduce your risk of stillbirth.

17.01.2022 Please keep in contact with your care provider during your pregnancy. Please also note that you should have ONE CHOSEN VISITOR, who is well, to support you during your hospital stay. (If they can no longer visit for some reason, talk to your nurse or midwife about a different visitor coming for the rest of your stay but please remember- one at a time and swapping and changing more than once is not allowed) This is to reduce the number of people in the hospital and comply with social distancing regulations which are state wide- stay safe and stop the spread.

16.01.2022 PLEASE stay safe out there in this strange new world- which can aggravate existing anxieties and stressors or bring about new ones. Reaching out for help is the single strongest and best thing you can do for YOU and your baby.

14.01.2022 Please ask about a Flu Vaccine at your next antenatal appointment. For other children in your care please see below process.

12.01.2022 Please be advised Children are no longer allowed in Dubbo Hospital as visitors- only if they are the patient themselves. We realise this adds complexity to arranging your antenatal visits and birth admission- but all we can do at this stage is ensure youre aware. Please wear a mask to hospital if possible. In Maternity, the woman may have two support people per day. (Same two for the whole day, no children) Please be reassured that all staff, patients and visitors are screened on arrival each day. We are now wearing masks for the last week or so and moving forward from a state directive.

12.01.2022 Im sure youll be pleased to know that Dubbo Hospital now allows 2 Visitors per person. In the Birthing Unit this needs to remain the same two visitors (no swapping) Postnatal ward it is two at a time. ... Children are not encouraged to come to the hospital unfortunately. If they are required to come they are included as one of the two visitors. All visitors are still screened at our front entry point to ensure that they are well. Please remember that the Pandemic is not over- and as we all navigate our way through things may change. Dont visit a new mum and baby if you arent well and wash your hands frequently If you cant visit, or prefer to give mum and baby a few days of recovery- maybe you can support the family in another way? - help with childcare of other children - if appropriate see if you can attend to chores at home like washing and cleaning. - offer support in the days and weeks after mum and baby are home- more childcare, housework, run errands, cook meals, bring treats and be a listening ear It takes a Village

02.01.2022 Stuck for Christmas ideas for your bump/ newborn? A book is a great place to start! Reading to your baby has been encouraged for years as it helps them become familiar with new sounds, words and language. Emerging research suggests that parental reading to premature babies helps to promote stability in the infant. Reading to these babies has shown improved language and cognitive outcomes at 18 months of ages. There is much more research to be done on the topic but personall...y I feel there can be no harm that comes from reading to your baby. In addition to the benefits mentioned above reading is a great way for families to bond with their new baby and take an active role in their care while in an unfamiliar environment such as the neonatal care unit. Merry Christmas from the Neonatal Care Team at Dubbo Base Maternity. -Casey.

02.01.2022 A short video explaining the Newborn Bloodspot Screening Test all babies born in NSW are offered. This is an important screening test for detecting certain rare medical disorders that require early treatment.
