25.01.2022 Meet Dr Megans best buddies Dickdoo a 14yo Mastiff cross and Lu Lu a 4yo Dachshund. These two are inseparable and are often found curled up asleep next to one another. Their favourite outing would have to be a run down the river.

24.01.2022 Dont let your fur child suffer this dreadful virus. Consult your vet now. Weve talked to Dr Julia at Duncan McGinness Veterinary Surgeon about why theres an outbreak of parvo:

24.01.2022 While enjoying some play time this beautiful Alexandrine Parrot named Pheonix managed to get its beak stuck in a toy bell while staying with his babysitter. Luckily it was noticed straight away and with Dr Caitlyns help the bell was removed without any damage to the beak.

23.01.2022 Have a look at the face markings on these two cuties!

23.01.2022 This week we said goodbye to one of our vets Matt. Matt started with us in 2018 and we have thoroughly enjoyed him being a part of the DMVS team. I’m sure many of you will remember him, we wish him all the best on his next adventure and travels.

23.01.2022 7 weeks ago we saw a female Corgi Jezza that needed assistance while trying to give birth which resulted in a cesarean. Mum and puppies recovered well and we had the pleasure of giving them lots of cuddles recently when they came in for their 6-week veterinary checks and puppy vaccinations. Pictured with Dr Megan, and nurses Kat and Lauren.

21.01.2022 Everywhere you look lately you see something about the Coronavirus and we do not want to add anymore worry for anyone, however we do want to do our bit to try and protect and accommodate our clients as well as our staff. At this point we are still consulting and performing surgeries on a daily basis. We will no longer be open late on Thursdays (starting Thursday 2nd April) and we will stay open all day on Saturdays (starting Saturday 4th April). We have reduced staff numbers ...available on any one day because we have divided into 2 separate 3 day shifts. Every one of our vets are available but 3 days per week. We will keep you updated with any changes that occur. If you are unwell or have travelled overseas or have contact with someone recently who has, we do please ask for you to put in place your own precautions for not spreading any illness. If your pet must be seen while you are under these circumstances please let our staff know when you phone so we can put in place other precautions. Please DO NOT turn up unannounced, phone for bookings and also for collection of supplies eg food and medications. During this time, we also prefer electronic payments rather than cash. For now, our clients can still attend the consults with their pets however we ask only one person attends the clinic with their pet where possible. At this stage you can still wait in our waiting room if a consult room is not free when you arrive however if you prefer you can wait in your car and we can bring you in once the vet is ready to see you. In each consult room we have hand basins that you are strongly advised to use on arrival and at departure to protect yourself as well as our staff. In the consult rooms if you can stand inside the taped area and/ or sit in the seat provided this would maintain our social distance without really thinking about it. Regretfully our puppy preschools have been cancelled until further notice. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to phone the clinic on 02 6884 9900 and we will try to accommodate your pets needs to the best of our ability. This may change in the future but will be effective under the current rules. We wish all clients the very best of health and happiness for pets and owners alike during this challenging time. Please give your pets a pat from us all! See more

20.01.2022 Meet Missy the kelpie cross who belongs to Ebony, one of our veterinary nurses. She visited the clinic recently with a torn dew claw. With some antibiotics and a bandage, she will be back to her normal energetic self in no time. Ebony has had Missy since she was a 6 week old puppy as the runt of the litter. We might make this a regular occurrence, to introduce you to all of the team at DMVSs family pets. Can you guess what breeds the DMVS staff might have?

20.01.2022 We hope you all had a lovely Easter! One of the Easter bunnies offsiders came in for a check up today after a very busy weekend.

19.01.2022 Last Sunday we shared the absolute pleasure of a behind the scenes tour of our very own Taronga Western Plain Zoo. The amazing animals we visited included the Elephants, Lions, Hippos and Tigers as well as having a tour of the zoo vet clinic with Dr Michelle. We cannot thank Justine enough for organising this as well as the wonderful keepers, Joel, Lachie, Cheryl, Bec, Mel, Megan and Carolene who welcomed us and let us have a close look of these beautiful animals. It was definitely a trip we will not forget!

19.01.2022 Ray OBrien our blood donor and hero of the month - saved a boxer pups life which was bleeding to death after finding and eating an unknown source of rodenticide poison. Care to all people and their pets when moving to a new property - please check for old rodent baits left by previous owners or tenants.

18.01.2022 For the months of March and April here at DMVS with your help we raised over $1200 from a proportion of our Annual Health Examination and Vaccination Reviews to go to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo Veterinary Clinic. After our very memorable behind the scenes tour of the zoo in January we really wanted to help show our appreciation of the Zoo Veterinary Clinic that sometimes might get forgotten. The amazing team do tremendous work in keeping all those animals in good health. ...With the funds raised we were able to provide the zoo with some equipment that will be very helpful throughout their day. From bedding to keep their clinic patients warm and dry, some carry cages that will help transport some koalas or even monkeys. As well as a surgery table cradle and heat matts that will assist during surgery on all ranges of animals from birds to Lions. We are very happy to be able to help them out in a small way. 18.01.2022 With August just around the corner we are running Dental Month again. In Dental Month we offer a free dental assessment and if your pet does require a dental procedure there are also discounts included. Dental health is a major factor that contributes to your pets overall health. We often hear from owners with older patients who were hesitant to have a procedure done and comment after the surgery that their dog is playing like a puppy again, which is so wonderful to hear. Our beloved pets are so tough and good at hiding signs of pain. Even if you are unsure if your pet has any dental issues, use this opportunity to come in for a free assessment. Please make sure you phone us on 68849900 to secure your spot.

18.01.2022 IMPORTANT: NEW PROTOCOL Here are some new changes, which have been accepted by our clients and we thank you all for your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience they may cause. 1. From here we kindly ask you to wait in the car while the vet conducts the consult, the vet can phone you to discuss further while you wait in the car. 4. In the event that you will need to enter the clinic we ask that only ONE person enters per patient. 5. Electronic payments preferred. This can be done over the phone. 17.01.2022 If anyone has any unwanted towels we would greatly appreciate any donations. No sheets, hand towels or blankets at this stage. They can be dropped at the clinic during opening hours. Thank you in advance.

16.01.2022 In January we had the pleasure of visiting the Taronga Western Plains Zoo behind the scenes as well as their veterinary clinic. The vet clinic plays an enormous role to the zoo looking after the health of every animal in their care. They however also take on the responsibility of wildlife that present to them that need some extra care before being released. This very busy clinic has faced a higher workload with the severe drought. (How lovely is the recent rain! Lets hope f...or much more and that the drought will break soon, bringing life back to this wonderful part of the world we live in) With this drought the Dubbo zoo vet clinic has had many wildlife patients, injured and/or malnourished that they are caring for. Their hope is that many of these patients can be released back to their natural environments. With the zoo clinic behind the scenes it is hard for the public to see all of the hard work this amazing team are doing. After our visit to the clinic and learning about the important roles they are playing, we were very keen to try and lend a helping hand. So we have decided that for the months of March and April we would take a proportion of vaccination sales to purchase veterinary goods to supply directly to the team at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo Veterinary Clinic. We also have a donation box at reception if you would like to contribute See more

16.01.2022 ****UPDATE- No more needed**** Thank you all so much, we have been overwhelmed by all of your generosity in helping us out with towels and blankets, and we are now fully stocked. We really appreciate it, and all of our patients will as well. THANK YOU!! We are in need of some towels and blankets to keep our patients warm, as our stock is running low. If anyone is having a clean out we would love to take them off your hands. Please only towels and blankets, we do not need any ...other linen. If you have some please phone the clinic and we will let you know where to drop them, so you will not have to come into contact with anyone. Thank you in advance

12.01.2022 Pet Diabetes Awareness Month Did you know that cats and dogs can get diabetes too? Luckily in most cases, diabetes can be managed with insulin injections, a healthy diet and exercise.

12.01.2022 DMVS family pets. We have seen a lot of dogs in our staff pets so we thought it was time to share another species. Our client coordinator Sarah has 6 chooks who are very cunning as they like to steal food out of the Jack Russells mouth. They like exploring and were often found out in the paddock eating grain when the sheep were being trail feed when it was dry. But now they are loving all the green grass and bugs. Currently they are on a break from laying eggs while the weather is cool but they make delicious eggs. They also have a good time chasing an active little toddler for food.

11.01.2022 We are so happy to be able to share a happy story with everything that is currently going on around the world. In December we had the pleasure of celebrating the wedding of our Nurse Bethany to her husband Nathan. It was a beautiful day and we wish them both all the best for their future

11.01.2022 We are currently experiencing a black out and therefore computers and phone lines are down. If you have an emergency please contact us on our after hours number 0418638380. Sorry for the inconvenience.

09.01.2022 With the current Corona virus outbreak we want to inform our clients who may have heard about coronavirus in cats and dogs, that there currently is no connection between our furry friends and the current epidemic. Below is an extract from The World Small Animal Veterinary Association. Corona virus and companion animals There is currently no evidence that 2019-nCoV can infect companion animals or that it can be spread by companion animals. The Corona viruses that we see in s...mall animals are NOT 2019-nCoV. They are related but totally different viruses; seen in dogs (gastro-intestinal) & cats (FIP). Dr Bruce Mackay ASAV Executive Committee

09.01.2022 Have you had mice plagues recently? Unfortunately here at the clinic we have experienced high numbers of pets that have been poisoned by mice/rat bait. Never say never when it comes to our pets gaining access to and eating rodent poison. If you suspect your pet has eaten bait please contact the clinic as soon as possible. No adverse signs appear until 3 days AFTER the bait has been eaten. This is the time it takes for the clotting factors that have already been produced pri...or to eating the ratbait, to run out. After 3 days, bleeding into the bladder, lungs, abdomen and possibly from the nose begins. If you see any external bleeding that won’t stop, pale gums, lethargy with breathing difficulty, nose bleeds or if urine or faeces becomes really dark, contact the surgery ASAP this is an emergency. We encourage you all to head to the link below to read more about rodenticide poisoning. See more

08.01.2022 Recently we have seen a large increase in the parvovirus cases around Dubbo. Please check your dogs vaccination status! Puppies require 3 vaccinations by the time they are 16 weeks old. Puppies should be isolated in a parvo free area (no walks) until 10 days after their third vaccine. All dogs must then have annual vaccinations to be protected from this virus. ... If you are unsure if your dog is up to date, please phone the clinic on 02 6884 9900. 08.01.2022 For the months of December and January through the help of our clients having their pets vaccinated we have raised $1040 to be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund. We hope our small part will help people in need who are affected by the horrible bush fires and we wish them well in their recovery.
