23.01.2022 GROOMING ARRANGEMENTS DURING COVID 19. We have made a few changes to provide an extra margin of safety for our clients and their pets during the Pandemic. We are now asking our grooming clients to go to the BACK DOOR, found at the back of the building and clearly marked by a giant sign, entered from the back carpark. You hardly need to get out of the car. Pick up is still from the front building. Drop off time for grooming is still STRICTLY FROM 8.30 TO 9AM and yes, pets still have to have evidence of up to date vaccinations. In this way we can keep the Grooming and Hospital patients essentially in separate buildings, with different staff looking after them and reduce the early morning waiting times at the front of the building.

23.01.2022 On Anzac Day we remember the sacrifice of the men and women who endured unimaginable suffering and loss for us. I truly believe we would forget in the busy lives we live, otherwise. Today it seems appropriate for me to publicly thank the nurses, groomer and veterinarians who continue to show up at work at the Dundas Veterinary Hospital, to serve our animal community. Frankly it has been a frightening experience sometimes, and we have had to adapt to new ways of doing things in a world of fear, uncertainty and sometimes hostility. So thank you to the lovely, kind and brave, Savanna, Nour, Julia, Simone, Lauren, Victoria, Dr Rosie, Dr Andrew, Dr Tina, Dr Briar and Karen.

23.01.2022 NEWS FROM BEHIND THE MASK Just decided to send a cherrio to everyone, and thank them for their patience in obeying the social distancing rules in place for the last 4 months. With the outbreak associated with Woolworths in Balmain (where 77? Follow up swabs were lost), the outbreak associated with the pub in Casula, infections detected in border towns, and continuing small outbreaks in schools, NSW has moved into the second, more dangerous phase of covid 19, being Communit...Continue reading

22.01.2022 How would your dog drink rat urine and why would it matter? By drinking out of puddles on ground that rats have urinated on, and because this is how dogs catch leptospirosis. Lepto is also contagious to humans. People whose dogs catch rats, or who frequent Parks in Crow's Nest, Balmain, Paddington, and the suburbs around them should consider having a vaccine against this bacterial disease. At least stay away from Parks in these areas, and take your own water and bowl when you leave home.

19.01.2022 Kookaburras like to nest in the hollows of trees and termite mounds and while they don’t drink much water, love to take a bath. The eat a wide variety of thing, snakes, rodents, insects, and like to swoop from trees to catch their prey and take it back up to the branch. They are also opportunistic feeder s and will eat road kill. This is a problem for them, as they are slow flyers and can be hit by cars being too slow to take off. If you want Kookaburras to stay, leave the hollow limbs on your trees, put a bird bath in a shaded area of the garden (but don’t feed them) and do not use rodenticides. This one has been bitten by an introduced predator.

13.01.2022 TICKS ARE AROUND. Last time we had a lot of rain we had two tick cases within a week of each other, despite it being mid winter. Please watch out for ticks all year round this year, and use one of the modern products that works well, eg Nexgard. Normally ticks are mainly around from October to March, ie the warmer weather, but this is 2020 isn't it.

03.01.2022 Anubis is leaving us to return to Western Australia via quarantine in SA. Named after the Egyptian God with the head of a dog he looks to me like the most normal one of the group. That's covid for you.

02.01.2022 A local dog suffered MARIJUANA intoxication by swallowing what his owner described as "something disgusting" he picked up on his walk. The dog, whose identity has been concealed to protect his reputation, had a heart rate of 60, (normally 120) was dull, wobbly and leaking urine. An extreme dose can lead to hyper-excitability, seizures and death. The intoxication occurred locally so be careful what your dogs pick up at the moment.

02.01.2022 People who walk their dogs around Lake Parramatta please read this. Please spread the word.
