22.01.2022 A Total Fire Ban has been declared or the Illawarra/ Shoalhaven, Greater Sydney and numerous other areas from midnight tonight. Heatwave conditions coupled wit...h strong, gusty winds and low humidity will once again combine to make conditions difficult should any fires start. What can you do? Stay up to date. Discuss what you will do if you are threatened by a bush or grass fire and take action. Know the rules on a total fire ban day. Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au.

21.01.2022 RAINFALL OPPORTUNITIES TO INCREASE AS WE MOVE INTO THE BACK HALF OF JANUARY. We have a monsoonal break period over northern Australia which has lead to rainfall... decreasing for some locations. High pressure is dominating a good chunk of the country, leading to seasonal summertime conditions and a drop in humidity. That is going to lead to a fairly settled week of weather, no severe weather events are likely to unfold over the coming 5-7 days. As we move into the latter part of the month, week beginning 18th of January, there could be an uptake in the tropical activity, inline with a weak MJO moving over northern Australia. Out of that, some very weak signals, but they are there, for a tropical system to develop somewhere over the Arafura Sea, before moving west towards the Timor Sea. This could see rainfall increase over northern Australia. If that were to happen, then moisture would then start to increase over the continent and a return to the humid stormy weather may begin to fire off during the Australia Day period. So the stormy days may be taking a break, but could come back with full force over the east and north. For WA, a nice period of thundery weather could impact the west coast during this week, with moisture being pooled in the region and a west coast trough kicking off storms. Otherwise, it is all about the heat in the east and endless summer sunshine. Image - Rainfall data for the next fortnight. The forecasts will likely be dry for a week south of a the tropics. Most of this to fall in the second week of this period, ending Australia Day. GFS

19.01.2022 FORECAST WEATHER CONDITIONS TO INCREASE FIRE RISK | The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is forecasting a number of continuous days of high to very temperatures comm...encing from tomorrow. The increased and sustained high temperatures will reflect an increased fire risk, particularly with grass and finer fuels. While we have had higher than average rainfall over the summer, we have started to see our finer fuels, such as grassland and surface litter begin to dry out over the last few weeks. These finer fuels will sustain fire, particularly on days of high to very temperatures said RFS Illawarra Zone Manager Superintendent Greg Wardle. Eligible landowners still need to apply for an RFS permit to undertake hazard reduction burning while we are in the statutory bush fire danger period. They also need to notify us prior to lighting the pile burn, otherwise they are in breach of the permit. Our fire investigators are actively looking into illegal burns as they occur and landowners face significant penalties if burning without the necessary approvals Superintendent Wardle stated.

19.01.2022 SEVERE TO EXTREME HEATWAVE - #NSW An intense November heatwave is expected to affect large parts of the state for the last week of the month and persist int...o early December as a slow moving and very hot air mass pools over the region. Temperatures are expected to be more typical of a mid-summer heatwave rather than late spring, with the temperature expected to soar into the mid to high 40s across some inland areas over consecutive days. Western parts of NSW are expected to scorch, with towns such as #Bourke, #Wilcannia, #Walgett and #WhiteCliffs likely to see at least 5-6 consecutive days of 40+ temperatures and some locations possibly longer. Bourke may reach up to 46 on Sunday and Tuesday. Whilst some may think these temperatures over inland areas are typical, for this time of year they are very unusual (generally occurring in January and February), with only November 2009 and 2014 seeing similar heat. The slopes, ranges and eastern plains (#Dubbo, #Moree, #Tamworth etc) will feel the worst of the heat a little later, with the hottest airmass affecting these regions from the weekend and into early December, with temperatures into the high 30s and low to mid 40s. Further east will be spared the worst heat, with weak southerly changes preventing heat from persisting over consecutive days. #Sydney will see it’s hottest days this weekend reaching the mid 30s in the city, and up to 42 in the west. The hot airmass is expected to break down over the east of the country within the first week of December due to a cold front and an increase of moisture, showers and storms. 18.01.2022 Victoria CFA NEW CFA CHIEF ANNOUNCED Congratulations and welcome to CFA's newly-appointed Chief Officer Jason Heffernan, and a very big thank you to Actin...g CFA Chief Officer Gary Cook for leading us so capably over recent months. Jason joins CFA from the NSW Rural Fire Service where he has been the Assistant Commissioner and Director Area Operations, in addition to his role as a volunteer for more than two decades. Jason brings to CFA an extensive skillset in strategic leadership, emergency response, and community protection, with advocacy and development of volunteer capability in a diverse workforce. Over the recent black summer and over many seasons past, he has had leading roles in emergency management. As CFA moves to a 100% volunteer firefighting service, it is especially noteworthy that Jason brings many years of experience as a NSW RFS volunteer frefighter himself - he is is a strong advocate of volunteer community-based emergency services and has also had a key role in providing strategic advice and guidance to the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association Inc. on behalf of the New South Wales Government. We look forward to welcoming Jason to CFA on the 30th of November 2020 just in time for the 2020/2021 fire season.

17.01.2022 The heatwave forecast for this weekend has been upgraded to extreme. If a fire starts under these conditions fire behaviour is likely to be erratic and unpredic...table. Take extreme caution in all activities to minimise any source of ignition. Review your Bush Fire survival plan and know what you will do if there is a fire in your area. 14.01.2022 Today we held an intimate yet social distanced ceremony to reveal the Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O’Dwyer Memorial Playground at Telopea Park in Buxton to the fa...milies of the hero’s that lost their lives fighting to save our community. In attendance were the families of Geoff and Andrew, their Captain and crew from Horsley Park Rural Brigade, Picton CWA, Wollondilly Shire Council Representatives including Mayor Robert Khan and Councillor Matthew Deeth, Rural Fire Service Officers including Commissioner Rob Rogers, Superintendent Martin Surrey and Area Commander Simon J Davis, and of course, a team from the Buxton Rural Fire Brigade crew. Today was an incredibly special and emotional day. It was especially touching to see the children of these families enjoying the playground built in the name of their dads, uncles, sons, cousins and brothers. Thank you to all that attended and to all that made this possible in the first place. The official opening to the public will be in December where the journey of this amazing memorial will be shared

10.01.2022 Our members have been busy leading and participating in training and assessment activities this weekend. Our future brigade crew leaders were put through their ...paces with a series of simulated urban fire scenarios yesterday and today another group is honing their off road driving skills. All of this in-between attending incidents. We’re prepared. Are you?

07.01.2022 Today we remember those who fought for our freedom. Men, women, boys and girls who we never knew, but to whom we are forever grateful. Lest we forget. IN FLAND...ERS’ FIELD LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN MCCRAE, MD (1872-1918) In Flanders’ Fields the poppies blow Between the headstones, row on row, That mark our place, and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders’ fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders’ fields.

06.01.2022 Congrats Mt Kiera

04.01.2022 Today at 07:25 am Dunmore responded to a fire-call at the local landfill tip with our two with assistance from Oak Flats Rural Fire Brigade and Albion Park Rural Fire Brigade During this call Dunmore was able to utilize some new aspects on our new truck and handheld appliances. Members used a heat detection device to find hidden heat and a permanently mounted water cannon to keep a constant spray of water on target areas. Water was pulled from local sources on site via a portable pump.

03.01.2022 An impressive Antonov strategic airlifter has touched down in Sydney this morning, carrying on board the first of two Air Crane helicopters that will be used th...is fire season, to support our firefighters on the ground. Now unloaded and once assembled, the aircraft named Gypsy Lady will undergo a series of tests and clearances and be ready for use when needed. Did you know the Air Crane can refill its more than 7,000 litre tank in less than 60 seconds!
