18.01.2022 Who do you reckon this young fella is Peter Dunn. It was in among some photos Noel Fullerton from the Camel Farm gave me.
16.01.2022 Last tour we did in this mini bus, Sept. 2005 We went to the APY lands in far North West SA and on to Ayers Rock(Uluru) and Alice Springs. We took the last P...adre of the area and his family, prior to it's handing over to the Govt. It was a truely wonderful experience meeting the indiginous people and learning of traditional ways and the history of the lands. The weather was superb and the roads rough, scenery beautiful and people were friendly and welcoming. See more
10.01.2022 A special tour or really a coach & trailer hire in Nov. 1997 The Birdsville Hotel hired our coach & safari trailer to take a group of people from the Birdsville... Hotel to the Andrewilla Billabong to camp for 5 days for a conference. The group were from the Murdoch Press. They flew into Birdsville in 2 Lear Jets. They loaded onto our coach and went to the desert water hole. The safari trailer was backed into a hole so that the trailer floor was at ground level and the Birdsville Hotel staff used the Safari trailer as their catering kitchen. It was a complete success. The weather was absolutely perfect except the heat was absolutely almost unbearable especially at night. As an aside Shirley and I took the exchange student that was staying with us at the time, Nuka Jensen for an experience of a lifetime. Nuka is an indigenous Inuit person from Greenland. Unfortunately the heat for Nuka was unbearable and she had to be taken back into the Hotel to stay in airconditioned accommodation. The 3 smaller photos are of Shirley & Nuka at the Mira Mita Bore on the Birdsville track. Nuka sent me these photos. See more
08.01.2022 MAN Coach purchased from Purtils Coaches in Deniliquin, NSW. We used it as a school bus and sometimes as a charter bus. During it's time with us we completely ...overhauled a replacement engine, the original engine threw a rod out through the block and we fitted a 9 speed Road Ranger gear box which necessitated a tailshaft ateration. It was sold to somebody in Rockhampton Qld. for a mobile home, I believe. See more
08.01.2022 We owned very few Mercedes Buses over the years. However we did get 2 buses from WA and one from Adelaide. Ex school buses from WA. One from Collie & one from B...unbury. They were both 1316s. Under powered but fine for our area of operation around Kadina, SA. They gave very little trouble during their life within our fleet except very close to the retirement of the bus from Collie it needed an engine replacement. The Collie bus was sold back WA, it went somewhere near Kalgoorlie the Bunbury bus went to Halls Creek, WA. The other Mercedes bus we operated was purchased from a Christian School in Adelaide. It gave us continual operational problems for most of it's life in our fleet. It was a 1418. Much more powerful than the 1316s but not as reliable. It eventually needed an engine replacement. It was sold to Lakes Entrance and was made into a Mobile Home. I believe it went around Australia twice without any trouble. Maybe the repairs we did to it made the difference. Overall we were happy with the mark. See more
