25.01.2022 Purposeful movement is the reassurance that each lift, hold and pause we take in class has meaning and effect. It values consistency and intention and behind it lies power and positivity. What does this mean? It means that every movement you take in class is not working towards a goal-weight or an ideal body, but is a step closer to transformation, liberation and freedom. It means that no matter where you are on your journey, you have the ability to take control of this moment and redirect it to where you want to go. Behind intentional movement, the building of inner and outer strength, lies the ability to create balance and safety with yourself, that you can carry with you where ever you go.

11.01.2022 We all know how important it is that we get a good nights sleep and we feel the effects throughout the day when we dont Being able to get a good nights sleep can be a hard challenge for the best of us. The days stresses and worries build up and we find it hard to relax the mind. However, with these tips we are sure you will be well on your way to a rested mind and an invigorating sleep: - Avoid caffeine after 2pm : this may sound drastic, h...owever the effects of caffeine can be long lasting and can be still influencing your bodys normal function well into the night. - Establish a night time routine: there is no right or wrong way to prepare for bed, as long as you allow yourself at least 30 minutes before bed to switch off your electronics, finish drinking any water and do whatever else you need to do to relax the mind. Sticking to this every night can be incredibly influential in ensuring you get a deep sleep and wake up refreshed. - Maintain a similar sleep schedule : this means that going to bed and waking up at a similar time every day, weekday or weekend. Now youre thinking, what no weekend sleep ins? But studies actually show that by disrupting your schedule on the weekends, does more damage than good. We want to hear from you! 10.01.2022 The list of things to learn as a new mother is long. 09.01.2022 Did you know that 70% of adults in Australia suffer from chronic stress and anxiety? It is an issue that is affecting a huge number of us, and usually goes undiagnosed. Stress affects the body in many ways including increasing our adrenal hormones which reduce our digestive abilities, immune function and increase our heart rate. Ongoing stress, which can lead to anxiety can be seen in the form of insomnia, muscle pain, frequent colds or panic attacks. By managing ...our daily stress, we are able to reduce its affect on the body and prevent further symptoms from developing. Here are our tips for you to reduce daily stress: Exercise: obviously a big one, exercise is shown to improve the release of dopamine (our happy hormone) and improve our bodys ability to deal with stress. By exercising just 30 mins a day we can reap the amazing affects of dopamine on both the brain and the body. Find an outlet: whether its reading, writing, baking or walking, find something that allows you to switch off and focus on the present. By focussing on just what is in front of you, you allow the mind to forget about your stresses for a while and reset. BREATHE: our ability to breathe is our greatest tool in being able to lower our stress hormones quickly. By actively breathing deeply we can lower the heart rate and the release of our stress hormones and bringing our mind and body back to normal function. Try inhaling for 4 counts, hold for 3, exhale for 6. At Duo, we strive to ensure that our space is as relaxing for the mind as it can be, so you can switch off and reset. We know how important it is for you to have time to rest and relax in your busy lives to ensure you can go about your normal day at 100% ! See more

08.01.2022 Lets face it, Covid-19 has had us all feeling low and run down, but there are things we can all do to boost our energy! Whether you are working from home and are finding it hard to be energised by your work, or whether the winter cold has you feeling run down, we are here to help you naturally boost your energy and have you pumped and ready to go each day. First and foremost is probably pretty self explanatory: EXERCISE! Your body is made to move, we ...arent built to sit at desks and be complacent. Our bodies are made to run, jump, and skip! Allow your body the time to do what it does best and get in at least 30 mins of movement every day Water! You would be surprised at how much more energetic you feel after having a big glass of water. Every cell in our bodies use water and we need it to survive, so when we are dehydrated our bodies natural reaction is to go in to survival mode and strip back things we dont need, i.e. higher level brain function and excess muscle movement. What does this mean? It means you need to ensure you are getting your minimum 2L in every day to ensure that you are performing at your best And last but absolutely not least is sleep we have talked about the importance of sleep in our previous Wellness Series topics, so you already know how important it is not only to get your 8 hours, but to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. What do you do to increase your energy levels when you are feeling bleh Let us know in the comments below! See more

07.01.2022 your future of health is created in the practises you commit to each and every day. its the breathe of fresh air you take when you go for a walk in the morning. its feeling the sun warm your skin and sand between your toes. its feeling the cool breeze and soft sounds as you rest. health isn't made in the gym, or judged by a number on the scales. its the sum of what you do every day to align with the best version of you. its moving your body in a way that makes you feel powerful. its eating food that fuels not only your body but your mind and your soul. its listening to your body when it needs to rest and connecting with likeminded souls. health is about the life you gain when you truly focus on yourself.

05.01.2022 Breath. Why do we place so much emphasis on breath in pilates? Breath is one of the fundamental components of life. The quality of your breath expresses your inner feelings without you even thinking about it.... In order to be present on the mat, we need to focus on our breathing. We bring our attention to our breath in class and therefore bring attention to things we may have been holding in. By focusing on just your breath, your body and the space around you, you can begin to reset, fill your cup and bring peace into an overcrowded mind So inhale...... fill your lungs, feel the air rise in your chest. Exhale..... release what you're holding back, let go of what is no longer servicing you. And repeat See more

04.01.2022 Meet Liz: Liz has been coming to Duo Pilates for 2 and half years, attending an average 4-5 classes each week as well as 1 weekly private reformer session. Before she started she was searching for a type of exercise that would help her improve her overall strength and fitness, but also something that she actually enjoyed. Before starting Pilates she used to do a lot of cardio but never really enjoyed it much and felt like she lacked strength.... ? I really wanted an exercise that would help improve my overall strength and fitness, that I enjoyed! I used to do a lot of cardio, I was thin but not strong and I didnt really enjoy it much either. ? I can now do pushups and carry a case of beer on my own...which I couldnt do before. Because I love it so much, it has helped my body image and mental health a lot. ? Id love to keep getting better at Pilates, stronger and more connected between my body/mind, because the older I get the more I realise thats so important! Since starting at Duo, Liz can now do a pushup and carry a case of beer on her own (yeah girl ), which she couldnt do before! She has found an exercise that she actually loves which has helped her to stay consistent and motivated. As a result, it has dramatically improved her body image and mental health. We always say to our clients that if you find an exercise that you actually enjoy doing, it wont be a challenge to stay consistent with it and consistency is how you will achieve your health and fitness goals. Liz is a perfect example of that! See more

Also my mental health/stress relief! ? Feel great now and notice if I havent been to Pilates regularly. Pain starts to return and I feel stiff. I also feel the classes are so varied that I am always trying to improve my technique and overall fitness.
