25.01.2022 Diane Stirling is a very accomplished potter with great skills and knowledge in Wheel, handbuilding, glazing and of course Raku firing. Diane is also a wonderfu...l friend of mine. I am so grateful for the mentoring Diane has shared with me in particular Raku firing over recent months. I’d like to share some of the creations that I have created as a result of the skills and knowledge Diane shared with me and a few of my equally crazy mates regarding the art of Raku firing. Thank you Lady Di you rock. Special thanks and loads of love to Barry, Mara, Lynda, Kim, Di, and Michael who have all bravely been my Raku firing buddies throughout this super exciting journey. What an adventure this creative lifestyle is. See more

23.01.2022 Just finished the first coat of bat wash. Getting ready to start working again. One of the jobs that isn’t so pleasant but necessary so your pieces don’t stick to kiln shelves. For people that may be interested the recipe is 25% calcined EPK Kaolin, 25% EPK Kaolin, 50% Alumina Hydrate and 1-2% potash feldspar. If you don’t have calcined Kaolin no problem but if you wanted to make some for yourself for future recipes then put a bisqued bowl or some sort of bisqued container with normal kaolin in with your bisque firing. The consistency is very light cream. Two or three coats but make sure they are really dry before painting on the next coat.

07.01.2022 Last two parts showing piece before wrapping up to combine joins and moisture. It is important to be patient and I do this process. Your piece will be a lot stronger to move to the next stage. #potterylove #potteryfun #potteryforall #potteryschool #distirlingpottery #potteryaddict

05.01.2022 The latest coffee mugs from making to putting on the handles. 1 throwing and adding blue coloured slip. Left to dry a little. 2. Pulling the handles and leave to stiffen a little. 3. Hang over a noodle to form a shape for the handle. 4. Turn and trim the bottom and sign. 5. Finished turning. 6. Carving the pieces. 7. Sitting on sponge and scored, ready to put on the handle. 8. All handles on and letting them stiffen up a little, continually checking to make sure the handle stays in shape.

04.01.2022 Hi, as promised, these came out of the kiln this morning. I was too keen to wait until daylight and it was really cold but I went out in my dressing gown and slippers and pulled them out of the kiln with gloves and put them in a clothes basket to carry them back into my warm bedroom where I could check them out with my cuppa. Very happy with the results. The bowls were decorated with underglazes first and then fired with two different glazes. The mugs have blue coloured clay decorated on them first and then also glazed with two different colours. You will note that they are different in colour inside. One with an addition of cobalt and the other with an addition of copper.
