24.01.2022 A promising initiative from Tasmania ...

22.01.2022 Australians wanting to marry foreigners will have to undergo a domestic violence check before they can apply to bring their loved ones into the country. If a person has any record of domestic violence they will be forced to share this with their partner but it will not automatically count as a bar for their application as immigration officers will have discretion when determining whether or not to grant the partner a visa.

20.01.2022 Chronic violence, abuse and its escalation occur when women have no means of escape. Women without work, who are economically dependent on their abusive partner are at increased risk of being trapped in family violence. .. Given that about half of the 15,000 women surveyed by the AIC were still cohabiting with their abuser (primarily men), one of the most effective ways to tackle this crisis is to protect women’s economic independence. But we are failing to do that and the e...conomic downturn is making it worse. Women’s employment can provide the means of escape from domestic violence. Few women are prepared to plunge themselves and their children into homelessness and poverty. It’s a major reason why many women only leave when the violence and abuse has escalated to the point where they fear for their lives, or the safety and well-being of their children.

20.01.2022 How many times can a man assault or threaten a former intimate female partner, while (as is often the case) bound by a court order not to have contact with her, until an exemplary sentence is imposed? Gorman wrote. In other words, when is enough, enough?

17.01.2022 A child rarely lies about abuse. 14.01.2022 I know many can relate ...

12.01.2022 As 2020 draws close to the end, we honour the memory of the 54 women in Australia who were killed in 2020 by domestic violence and to those who are enduring the ongoing torment inflicted by a controlling abuser in their lives whether it be through physical, emotional and/or financial abuse. The statistics are just the top of the iceberg, with so many unreported cases we see day in day out. COVID and lockdowns have brought difficulties for many, however it does not excuse dom...estic violent behaviours. If you are in immediate danger, please call 000. Otherwise, if you are experiencing abuse and need our assistance whether it be for domestic violence orders, family law children’s custody matters or financial settlement, please email [email protected]. We will help you leave your relationship safely and be with you every step of the way.

11.01.2022 RIP .. another mother murdered and this time in front of the children .. those poor little ones, it is unimaginable the impact it will have on them

10.01.2022 Shared parenting responsibility in domestic violence cases can be more harmful to children and should only be considered where it is shown that there are favourable circumstances to do so. It enables the cycle of abuse to continue. Such an arrangement forces their victims to regularly interact with them when it is not safe for the victim or children. ... The past and future behaviour of abusers means that shared parental responsibility is not the best option for the safety and well-being of children. Shared parental responsibility should only be considered in circumstances where there are parents who can cooperate and can communicate effectively.

09.01.2022 Coercive control can be a good criminal law provided that the Police, Courts, Judiciary, Lawyers recognise the entire history of an insidious campaign of oppression including but not limited to, dominating and controlling conduct and not just on isolated incidences, for example, monitoring movements, activities and spending, controlling finances, isolating from friends and family, dictating rigid rules and responding in an aggressive and/or belittling way, labelling everythi...ng as their property and threatening the partners stability, safety or wellbeing if they don’t concede, using the children as tools to manipulate their partner by threatening to take custody, questioning the partners sanity, wrongly reporting to others including family, friends that their partner is mentally ill when they have not qualifications to make such assertions, using psychological projection in attempting to or actually reporting to and admitting to their partners to mental health wards with unsubstantiated concerns, using systems abuse to continually wear their partners down emotionally and financially, limiting their partners actions by preventing their partners from leaving, attending to work or maintaining social connections, using technology to monitor their partner and then interrogating them and verbal abuse ... just a few examples See more

09.01.2022 Fifty-four women in 52 weeks have died at the hands of violence in Australia. It’s a sobering statistic that isn’t going to get any brighter when Christmas arrives. During the festive season, police and domestic violence support networks experience a spike of up to 25 per cent in calls for help.... Those in the domestic violence space are bracing themselves for even more requests for help this year. The coronavirus pandemic job losses, spiralling anxiety and stress levels, and lockdowns have created a perfect storm for domestic violence. https://thenewdaily.com.au//23/domestic-violence-christmas/ #notnownotever

08.01.2022 This is an important ruling and one which we hope sends a very powerful message: every single survivor of domestic abuse should be listened to and should be heard. No survivor should ever have her voice silenced. A common tactic used by perpetrators of domestic abuse is to repeatedly tell victims that no one will believe them and to use power and control to try and silence them. What we have seen today is that power, fame and financial resources cannot be used to silence women. That is a welcome message for survivors of domestic abuse around the world. We stand in solidarity with Amber Heard, who has shown immense bravery in speaking up and speaking out.
