13.01.2022 WHAT KIND OF SELFISHNESS DESTROYS CHANCES OF TURTLE NESTING AT SHELLY BEACH? (Moffat Beach post code). Wherever people live, work and play, nighttime lights fol...low. Artificial lighting along the coast has wreaked havoc on sea turtles, which rely on subtle, nighttime lighting cues to deposit eggs on beaches and make it safely to sea as hatchlings. That was the case at Moffat Beach. So a solution was created to stop the main culprit, car headlights, from interfering with the turtles. This can be seen in PHOTO 1. However, if you look at PHOTOS 2 and 3 you will see the preventative screening has been removed!! WHY? A very good question. It is apparently due to an official complaint by few house owners on William Street that overlook this stretch of beach. Their complaint? The fencing is an eye sore!!! What in god’s name is wrong with people? This is a beautifully made structure and it means the turtles will come ashore in safety and lay their eggs. The complaint was upheld (Why? Those people don’t own that strip of land, the dunes or the beach). How selfish can you possibly get? It beggars belief that in 2020, you would think that people would be more educated about things like Marine Conservation and the declining numbers of turtles. But it seems not, because there..... 1. Selfish people who want an uninterrupted view of the ocean but don’t give a flying fig about what lives in the ocean; and, 2. Who were the numpties that bowed down to this handful of people and agreed to take the protective barrier down? What sort of message is that sending? Yet when 8,000 residents in Yaroomba complain about a development which is outside of the Town Plan and which will impact turtle nesting grounds, we are presented with those three monkeys HEAR NO, SEE NO, and SPEAK NO! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Has someone pulled some strings to get the fence removed? Why should a handful of people get to decide the fate of the turtles! If any of you that complained are reading this, SHAME ON YOU. (Photographs supplied)

12.01.2022 It's Turtle season. Only 1 in 1,000 hatchlings survive so it's important that we protect them and their environment. Save Yaroomba is fighting to stop inapprop...riate development that will bring excessive light onto the beach, and interfere with the turtles trying to nest. We want our beloved turtles to stay in Yaroomba. 05.01.2022 Tony Coles, a unique Sunshine Coast-based artist who draws inspiration from Australian life and landscape, has this to say about the proposed Sekisui project: ...Let's face it, the Sekisui development at Yaroomba is about profits for developer and Council. The Council-owned international airport needs paying for and that requires more visitors. A mini Gold Coast vision achieves the goal yet defeats the purpose of the reason why people choose the Sunshine Coast's low key/low rise feel for holidays. It's important to remember that Sekisui's development approval only just scraped in by one vote! Retrospectively many wrongly voted for a Councillor who stood for no high-rise yet turned face. Yes, the one vote! Now a precedent has been set for the spread of similar high-rise buildings in areas zoned for two story limits. The community have fought valiantly to protect Yaroomba’ s visual amenity from high-rise development while simultaneously fighting for the rest of the Coast. The development site includes rare parabolic dunes, turtle nests and Melaleuca wet forests. The pristine vista from the Yaroomba foreshore and ocean will be impacted by the visual pollution of three high-rise buildings and lighting from the top stories will impact on the turtle habitat. Another major concern is the lack of planning into infrastructure and roads the surrounding area would need to facilitate the increased population. The hotel’s profitability has been well addressed though, as ocean view rooms sell better and room servicing cheaper via lifts. The ex-Palmer resorts premier PGA golf course just over the road will be well patronised. The buying back of its units and time-share will provide it with complete control of its future. Maybe it will want some high-rise buildings? What's to stop that if Sekisui goes ahead? The precedent this development sets will irrevocably change the nature of our built environment here. Job creation was going to occur either way and those jobs would now be in existence if Sekisui hadn't gotten greedy with its height. Your average resident would be laughed out of Council if they desired to build a seven storey house, so there's two separate rules. This community only asks for fair treatment and respect for its town plan which has been paid for and agreed upon through our voting system. Voices so strongly spoken have fallen on deaf ears for far too long. Tony Coles https://buff.ly/3r1yzrw

03.01.2022 There were over 9,000 objections to change the town plan for property developer Sekisui 62% of those opposed came from more than 5kms away indicating that our ...tourists/holiday-makers also don’t want to see the Sunshine Coast transformed into another Gold Coast. People power can succeed over property developers. We just need to stand together. Town plan = medium-low density, 2 storeys. Please just stick to it. #Peoplepower #wrongwaysekisui #saveyaroomba #friendsofyaroomba #community #dotherightthing #iloveyaroomba #ourvoicesdomatter
