23.01.2022 During the recent period of remote learning did you have any concerns about your child's reading or writing? All kids can have certain 'quirks' and ways of doing things but maybe you've noticed some worrying patterns in their reading or handwriting. The great thing about our dyslexia and motor dysgraphia screening process is that it is quick and easy and you don't need to get a referral or even worry your child. The screening test is simply reading words and scanning handwri...ting and can easily be made fun. We don't provide a diagnosis but we can give you either peace of mind that it's just a quirk or the impetus to take the next steps. Please head to our website to find out more, download our app by searching for 'Dystech' where you get your apps. You are also most welcome to contact us directly [email protected] #dyslexia #dyslexiascreening

17.01.2022 How does our screening process work? How can we use Artificial Intelligence to assess whether or not a person has dyslexia? It probably seems a bit futuristic to ask a computer to tell you if your child is dyslexic but this is not really what is happening with a Dystech screening test. The computer, the artificial intelligence technology we apply is, in simple terms, assessing patterns. Patterns are very well suited to artificial intelligence and is something that is used i...n huge numbers across the world. For example, even McDonalds is using voice based AI technology in drive-throughs - recognising that people have a limited list of options that can be applied to their ordering system. They can also adjust their menu screen according to patterns they are seeing - like on a hot day people might order more McFlurries than usual. In that McDonalds example, the computer does not need to know anything about you, it simply recognises the words from patterns. The Dystech screening test does not diagnose you, that is an important point. The screening test assesses the probability that you have dyslexia by looking for patterns in speech. These patterns were developed from over 3000 voice and handwriting samples taken from known dyslexic and non dyslexic people. So we dont diagnose you but we do give you a good place to start and a percentage of certainty that will either allay your concerns or give you the drive to push for a diagnosis. We explain this further on our website (link below) and welcome you to get in touch if you would like further information or to organise a screening [email protected] www.dystech.com.au/screening-for-dyslexia/ #dyslexia #dyslexiaawareness

11.01.2022 At Dystech we believe children should be seen as 'more' than their dyslexia. During the assessment and diagnosis phase, they may feel like it's all anyone is talking about and that can be hard to process. It's true that dyslexia can be a challenging learning disability that can make certain concepts hard to grasp, but children should be seen as a whole person with both strengths and weaknesses. If you are going through this at the moment, try to focus on your child's stren...gths like their amazing visual awareness, comprehension skills, verbal storytelling or artistic abilities. Encourage these things and you will grow through the difficult times together. If youre still unsure if your child exhibits signs of dyslexia dont hesitate to use our screening test to give you a place to start. And for or more information about dyslexia screening, please contact us. Were here to help! [email protected] #dyslexia

07.01.2022 How does our screening process work? How can we use Artificial Intelligence to assess human conditions? Tremendous advances have recently been made in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In particular, the impact of Machine Learning has accelerated its use in everyday life, from speech recognition to medical diagnosis. Inspired by these works and building on our team expertise in AI, we have developed a Machine Learning algorithm, which analyses a set of records and ul...timately provides accessible and quality screening for Dyslexia and Motor Dysgraphia (previously known as Dyspraxia). To explain further; Motor Dysgraphia appears under the umbrella terms of Developmental Coordination Disorder and affects fine motor skills, including handwriting skills. Dyslexia is characterised by problems with accurate or fluent word recognition, poor decoding, and poor spelling abilities. The above characteristics can be accurately measured by a computer. Such accurate measurements have led the AI community to consider that, given enough data, accurate screenings can be performed by 1. capturing appropriate data from an individual, then 2. applying specific algorithms derived from mathematics and computer science which are not prone to the variability of human judgement. We explain this further on our website (link below) and welcome you to get in touch if you would like further information or to organise a screening [email protected] www.dystech.com.au/screening-for-dyslexia/

02.01.2022 Meet the team - Carmel Riley Carmel is an authentic leader who has served the Gippsland (South Eastern Victorian) community for 15 years. Her experience spans across the private sector, government agencies and not-for-profit organisations -across health, community services, and sustainability service industries Australia-wide. With a deliberate bias towards social justice, Carmel brings together diverse perspectives, lived experience and systems-oriented business acumen to ex...plore, design and deliver strategies to create shared economic and societal value for our community. Carmel has a tertiary background in speech pathology and family sensitive practice and got an Executive MBA program focused on contemporary global business environments of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity. Carmel lives in Warragul with her husband John and three primary school aged children, Carmel describes her parent journey as 10 years of discovery, seeking to love, nurture, support and advocate for her children to live abundant lives. She also brings vulnerability to her lived experience, describing the challenges and joys of raising children with unique minds, who view the world differently and do not always fit the mould of mainstream conventions. Carmel has seen the negative impact of hidden learning differences on the community, and passionately believes in the difference affordable, accessible early identification of dyslexia could make to improve the social, emotional and mental wellbeing of children and their families.
