13.01.2022 SHOULD I STRETCH OR STRENGTHEN TO RELIEVE MUSCLE PAIN/TIGHTNESS? Mobility and Stability . . It can be difficult working out why youre tight in some areas no matter how much you stretch and weak or flexible in others. ... . . The first thing to know is that the joint by joint theory describes our body as a series of alternating stable joints and mobile joints. . . If a joint moves away from from its desired function, either stability or mobility, the joint above or below will compensate. . . EXAMPLE: Our hips are designed to be mobile, our lower back stable. If our hips are tight, restricted and cant move, the lower back will. When we force a stable joint to move, it inevitably becomes less stable and eventually painful. Once joints become unstable, other mobile joints will try and stabilise for it, repeating this dysfunction, pain & restriction throughout the body no matter how much you stretch a tight muscle! . . This means that maintaining strength and control through our joints meant for stabilisation (Lumbar, Knee, Foot) whilst keeping mobile in areas such as the hip, thoracic and ankle, will create a balanced body that can both be strong and able to move fluidly to reduce pain and restriction. 01.01.2022 Patient suffering from Parkes Weber syndrome. Parkes Weber syndrome is characterized by vascular abnormalities known as capillary malformations and arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), which are present from birth. The capillary malformations increase blood flow near the surface of the skin. They usually look like large, flat, pink stains on the skin, and because of their color are sometimes called "port-wine stains." In people with Parkes Weber syndrome, capillary malformations occur together with multiple micro-AVFs, which are tiny abnormal connections between arteries and veins that affect blood circulation. These AVFs can be associated with life-threatening complications including abnormal bleeding and heart failure.
