25.01.2022 Every third week of October, National Water Week makes a splash across Australia, inspiring individuals, communities and organisations to work together to build awareness around the value of water. Our preschool children headed out to Martin Place to see an exhibition that show cased different plants they have set up to handle droughts and saw the "toughest garden" which can survive a long drought. The co-ordinator of the event told us which plants don't need a lot of water a...nd what we can do to save water. This visit linked in well with the National Water Week which the preschool children have been talking about last week. After they saw the garden display they continued our walk and it was nice to see all the flowers and plants around. We even spotted a nest on a tree! Being in the city allows children to experience and learn so many things! What are you doing to save water? #nationalwaterweek #exploreanddevelopcastlereaghstreet #childcaresydneycbd

21.01.2022 It might be Monday but none of our preschoolers seem to mind being back after the weekend. Keeping young minds engaged is so important and Jherlie has a great game going on to achieve that.

20.01.2022 Today was a very important opportunity to show your support by attending the Global Climate Strike. Our Educational Leader discussed with the staff about showing our support with the children but decided to stay in and talk about what is happening instead. It was great to see some parents taking their children from the Centre and attend and then return. Explore & Develop Castlereagh st supports all those who took action today. #globalclimatestrike

20.01.2022 National Reconciliation Week 2020 starts today. #inthistogether2020

20.01.2022 Cheers for the little surprises in this wonderlful world that awaken in all of us curiosity, connection and joy.

20.01.2022 Excursions are back! After discussions with families, children and educators our children are getting beyond the gate again and loving it. Walks in the park and a babycino to end the trip. Thanks to Jenny from Soul Origin in MLC for the free drinks for the children. She always supports our community. ... #soulorigin #royalbotanicgardens #earlyeducationandcare #sydneycbdchildcare #childcare @ The Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney

19.01.2022 The use of technology has greatly expanded our ability for the children who are still attending care to reach out and with classmates who have chose to self isolate. So much joy!

18.01.2022 Well another year is coming to an end and its time to celebrate with our amazing team of educators. Merry Christmas!

17.01.2022 Our 2-3 year old children in our Waratah Room pretended to be truck drivers, digging and moving sand or gravel (lentils), just like what they can see in real life through their classroom window. The experience was planned to engage only 5 children at a time and they would wear visual cues in the shape of truck badges to indicate that it was their turn. It was great to see the Waratahs take turns independently, giving their badges to their peers once they were finished, demonstrating their early understandings of fairness and respect for the others. 16.01.2022 As the days get longer with Daylight Savings starting soon we are planning some new "beyond the gate" adventures for the children who attend our Centre. The City of Sydney CBD is alive with many exciting things for the children to see and do. I just wanted to thank the City of Sydney News for sharing some great places to take our Children on excursions when the time comes. Maybe you can check them out during your lunch break as well or take a diversion on the way home after work. Keep an eye out for our preschool children on the prowl or our nursery children in their prams! Have a great evening. https://news.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au//5-public-artworks-yo

16.01.2022 We had a fun group time this morning! It's a full house in Waratah toddler room today so best to bring the Waratah band together and make some lively music . Group play builds a childs emotional confidence, social skills and supports their imagination and creativity. Mixed with music its the perfect pairing.

16.01.2022 Although we supply a large selection of age appropriate resources for the children who attend our Centre, sometimes the simple shovel and sand is more than enough. Drop in and see us in the Sydney CBD. Tours daily! 02 91194848 #sydneycbd #childcare #longdaycare #exploreanddevelopcastlereaghst

15.01.2022 On Friday our preschool children from the Lilly Pilly Room got to help Greg from the Wiggles and St John Ambulance to educate people on the importance of CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at Martin Place, Sydney. Using an AED can increase the chance of survival from 6% to 74% if you have a heart attack. Do you know where your nearest AED is located and how to use one? Thank you to Channel 9, St John Ambulance and Greg for allowing our children to help spread this great message. Go out and learn CPR!

15.01.2022 Our local community coffee shop Soul Origin, who supplies our daily coffee and also does catering for us, is reducing waste by offering 7 free coffees when you buy a Frank Green Keep cup! 14.01.2022 Please make sure that as you enter and exit your local Early Education & Care Center that you sanitise your hands and your childs hand to please to protect your family and your educators. # ##washyourhands

14.01.2022 I would like to share a lovely poem that a parent has written about her time at our Centre, whose child is leaving after being with us for 4 years to now attend Kindergarten. It is a very sad but exciting time for our team of Educators as we say good luck to these children as they start a new adventure.

14.01.2022 A fabulous art week has come to an end! We were all so privileged and lucky to witness and experience art firsthand with our own eyes and all of our senses. Our journey in visual arts started after visiting the 22nd Biennale exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Arts. After that, everyone showed an interest and became engaged with art up until finally we set up and presented our first Lilly Pilly Gallery with exhibits of the children’s artwork. The children were so happy... to produce art and proud of their work. To give all the children the opportunity to experience art, we thought it would be great to visit the Art Gallery of NSW. It was fascinating to see all the children so happy, calm and relaxed, to wander in and explore all the different floors and exhibits of the gallery. Children are individuals like us and they have every right to visit, participate actively, live and experience the different events and places of their community! They could give you a tour next time you visit a gallery or museum!

14.01.2022 Imagine all the questions these children had to answer, the problems they had to solve and the turns they had to take before coming up with the perfect run for the balls to reach the trolley. When children find readily available open-ended resources, are free to investigate through hands-on experiences, and have educators giving them constructive feedback, their explorations are more fun and engaging. In other words, their play becomes life-long learning.

12.01.2022 Free childcare and parking in the city! During these uncertain times, we provide a safe and stimulating haven for children and are offering a limited number of new enrolments now. For the next few months under the Governments relief funding, childcare is free to all families (normal fees apply from 1 July 2020).... We invite you to come on a tour to experience why our families say that we offer the best service, facilities, education and care in the Sydney CBD.

12.01.2022 Yesterday Explore & Develop Castlereagh Street hosted a table at the Tresillian Tea Party in the QVB Tea Room. We invited 8 of our attending parents to take a break and have a relaxing lunch while talking to other mothers and hearing from Erin Molan, the Ambassador for Tresillian. This event is held every year by Tresillian to raise funds to pay for the free support they give to some 60,000 families with a baby, toddler or young child. Explore & Develop is proud to partner with such a worthy charity and hope to make this an annual event. Why not? We had 3 of our 8 guests win a prize! Sarah and Jade won a prize in the raffle and Olivia won one of the lucky door prizes. Many thanks to Anni, Sarah, Jade, Olivia, Sarah, Wendy, Andrijana, Kathryn & Claudia for taking the time out to join us. Your time is greatly appreciated.

12.01.2022 Banksia children (Senior Nursery) love the good old sand pit play here at Explore and Develop Castlereagh Street. With enough resources for the whole group, each and every child can have the best experience while exploring this open-ended resource independently or with adult support. When a toddler plays alongside a peer in what we call parallel play, an important social milestone is being reached and setting the foundations for the establishment of long-lasting friendships.

11.01.2022 New year, new and exciting room set up in our Preschool. With well-defined learning areas based on the Walker Learning Approach and the EYLF, this spacious room provides age appropriate and open-ended resources for days of wonder, exploration, investigation, literacy, numeracy, dramatic play, construction, tinkering, painting, collage, and quiet time. The Preschool team of educators is formed by Eleni, who is an Early Childhood Teacher, Bernadette and Jherlie, who are Diploma Educators. They are passionate about meaningful, hands-on, life-long learning and are looking forward to 2020 - a year of teaching/learning in partnership with the children, their families and our community.

10.01.2022 Re-use and recycle in action. A massive thank you to Laing & Simmons from Level 11 in our building. They did a clean out of unwanted items and offered them to us. So many great things for the children to re-use for arts and craft. 10.01.2022 Last Sunday we had our Family Xmas BBQ in Glebe. The weather was great with a little rain overnight to clear the smoke and the sun came out. Lots of games, face painting, sausage sizzles and treats. Then we handed out our preschool certificates to farewell 24 children to Kindy choosing 3 words to describe each child. Congratulations - we shall truly miss you. #preschool #kindy #children #exploreanddevelopcastlereaghst #sydneycbd #longdaycare #daycare #earlychildhoodeducationandcare @ Jubilee Park

10.01.2022 NSW Fire Dept Visit 2019

10.01.2022 Today was National Simultaneous Storytime - Wednesday 22nd May at 11am. NSS is in its 19th year and is a fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy using a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator. This years book is 'Alpaccas with Maraccas' & is written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove. All of our four rooms, from the Junior Nursery to our Preschoolers participated in this terrific initiative and had fun sharing this ...book together. Explore & Develop Castlereagh Street educators focus on using language with children in all its forms. This includes reading books with children, as it not only supports literacy development but also promotes brain development and imagination, as well as teaching children about emotions and building relationships. To support this, we also have a book library where children and families can borrow a book to take home to read and bring it back once finished - a very popular area at pickup time. Check out Raising Children Network for tips on sharing books with babies and young children - https://raisingchildren.net.au//liter/reading-storytelling

10.01.2022 Making creative Halloween decorations does not mean heading to the shops - well maybe to buy some milk! Amazing idea from the Educators in our Waratah Room!

09.01.2022 When was the last time you looked someone in the eyes and shared a good laugh? At Explore and Develop Castlereagh Street, we believe in eye contact, in active listening and in responding to childrens cues with warmth. By modelling and encouraging respectful and meaningful interactions, we support childrens wellbeing and set them for a successful life of learning.

09.01.2022 Building! That’s exactly what these toddlers are doing together. Most people will see two high towers. Here we see children building up their gross and fine motor skills, their strength, their cognitive skills, and their friendships based in reciprocal relationships, trust and fun. Building in early childhood is in every little experience children engage each and every day. Have you seen your child building today?

08.01.2022 There is more treasure in books, than in all the pirates loot in Treasure Island. - Walt Disney. Our new book order has arrived for our childrens book library. They pick one each night, take it home and return the next day. #sydneycbdchildcare #exploreanddevelop #booklibrary

07.01.2022 Today the children from our Preschool room went on an excursion to the Australian Museum. We keep in close contact with the local museums and libraries so that when events are on we can participate. As this week was National Reconciliation Week we thought it would be great to head to the Australian Museum to see the exhibitions they had on. The children walked up to the museum, planned the places to see via the map and embarked on an exciting journey through the Museum. We would like to thank the staff at the Australian Museum for allowing the children to visit and share the wonderful Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander exhibits.

06.01.2022 It's the cool touch. It's the slippery, slimy liquid running through my fingers.. It's the bright colour. My new colour. It smells like freedom... To stop the clock and explore. And you thought It was just green paint. - By Claudia (our Educational Leader) See more

05.01.2022 This week our preschool children went to the post office to send the letters that some of our friends wrote last week. The children gave directions on how to get to the post office, when it was time to turn left or right, and they knew how to cross the road. As soon as we arrived at the post office we looked for envelopes to put the letters in. The lady at the counter told us that we actually need a special envelope for the letter that is going to Greece, so she gave us anoth...er one. On our way back we saw all the beautiful flowers in a shop; we bought some to have on our tables during lunch time. The children chose the gerbera flower. Also, there was a special event at the memorial and we saw people from the Navy so we listened to the man playing the bagpipes. It gave us the opportunity to talk about all the people who fought for their country and the protectors of Australia who protect the land and the sea. It was such a great morning, an outing into our community and a great learning experience as well. Eleni - ECT from the preschool room.

04.01.2022 Our Banksia Educators gave us another perfect recipe for learning through play: First, invite a group of toddlers to make blue jelly while introducing early STEM concepts and vocabulary. Second, transfer the set jelly to an exploration table, add water and some toy sea animals. Last, give the children unlimited time to explore it while asking open-ended questions, providing positive feedback, and letting their imagination drift out in the blue sensory sea.

03.01.2022 A little while ago the babies and Educators from our nursery room headed down to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) down near Circular Quay. In our prams we walked down in the morning to the Art Play section of the MCA which is geared for children of ages 0 to 5. It allows the babies to discover interactive artwork that they can touch, stories they can listen to and music they can dance to. It was a lovely opportunity to get beyond the gates and enjoy some great interactive sessions and visit our local community of museums.

03.01.2022 I just wanted to congratulate Yun, our Certificate III Trainee, who just completed her traineeship. She joined us straight out of school and has adapted so well the the challenging and satisfying life as an early childhood educator. She is doing so well we even gave her a job! Congratulations Yun!

03.01.2022 Visit by NSW Fire Department This morning, a team from the Fire and Rescue New South Wales came to Explore & Develop Castlereagh St for a very fun and hands-on talk with the preschoolers about fire safety. It was a great opportunity for the children to get closer to their loved real-life superheroes, learning about their gear, and asking questions. In addition, the children were excited to show the firefighters all the previous learning they engaged with in preparation for t...his special visit. By shouting 000 to answer a question, the preschoolers definitely made a good impression on the team of fire fighters visiting us. After the talk, which involved a mini workshop on how to get low and go go go in case of a fire, the children went to Castlereagh Street to get inside the fire truck and were pleased to have a go with the hose. Incursions like those are perfect experiences for the preschoolers as they not only teach important life skills, but also foster a closer connection to our community and the services available to them. 03.01.2022 With all this lovely weather (but we do miss the rain) the teams in our two Nursery Rooms are getting out of the gates of the Centre and experiencing the beauty of where we are located. The babies and staff love going for walks around town and seeing the sights. It creates amazing experiences for the children and allows them to engage with the Sydney CBD community.

01.01.2022 A lot of Centres are doing it tough right now - ours included - but found this on my desk today at work! I have the most supportive and strongest team anywhere. We shall get through this.

01.01.2022 Yesterday we had a visit from Mena who works at Officeworks on Clarence Street in the CBD. She explained to us that OfficeWorks wanted to help the local Community by reaching out to local businesses to see how they could help. So Mena came over with huge bag of artistic goodies for the children to use at the Centre. What a lovely gesture in these challenging times in the Sydney CBD. As you can see the children were pretty excited! Such a generous gesture from Mena & OfficeWorks.
