21.01.2022 Starting solids is exciting, but it can be hard to remember where the boundaries of responsibility lie. The 'Division of Responsibility' (@ellynsatter) is a valuable concept to understand, as it sets a clear boundary between the responsibilities of a parent/care giver, and the child. Fundamentally it puts the responsibility for the type of food, the location of where and when food is served upon the parent/caregiver. It then leaves the responsibility with the child to determi...ne how much, and importantly if they will eat the food served. Each factor must work in combination, so there must be consistency in how all aspects are applied or recognised. That means considering appropriate meal times and schedules, how to serve foods appropriately, as well as allowing your LO to explore their own capacity to self regulate their appetite, try new foods and flavours. It can be hard to stop ourselves from wanting to encourage that next bite, or to offer an alternative meal when the first is refused, though in the long run these efforts may hijack the 'good eater' you're hoping to raise. We are able to help you understand how these principles might actually work for your and your family. #kidsfood #toddlerproblems #babyfood #kidsofinstagram #parenthood #parentsofinstagram #parentingtips #parentlife #mumlife #momlife #witchinghour #firsttimeparents #toddlerfood #foodtips #kidsfoodideas #kidsfoodie #snacksforkids #feedmyfamily #feedingbabies #feedingtoddlers #feedinglittles #toddlerdinner #babydinner #familydinner

20.01.2022 Getting feedback like this makes my job so worth doing! I am so lucky I get to work with so many amazing mothers who want to educate and prepare themselves to raise healthy happy little eaters! "I couldn’t recommend fun with first foods enough!!! This course has been a lifeline.I’m a second time mum. After having an extreme hard time with introducing solids with my first I wanted to be better prepared this time. During covid times my only support is my husband but when it com...es to the kids his as supportive as a hole in a bag and the mental load was overwhelming. This course has put the fun back in feeding my kids. The modules are in bite size chunks that are easily understood. She provides very handy handouts/guides on creating balanced meals for bubs. Jeanette has been amazing in responding to everyone’s questions backing them up with up to date evidence based research. Her natural presentation style is very warm and welcoming & easy to listen to. I am so glad I’m doing this course as it aloud me to trouble shoot along the way. I definitely feel more confident now then I did at the start" The next round of our course is starting on the 2nd December! Check out the link in our BIO or send us a DM for more information on how to register! * * * * * * * #babyshop #stickyspoons #feedingbabies #babyfood #firstmeals #firstfoods #startingsolids #startingsolidsaustralia #nutrition #babynutrition #solidstarts #babymealtimes #babyboy #babyledeating #babyledweaning #blw #puree #weaning #weanin15 #weanmiester #babyfoodie #foodforbaby #firstfood #firstmeal #babynutrition #foodforbaby

20.01.2022 A lot of GP's often recommend to parent that babies with reflux be started on solids early to try and reduce their vomiting and increase their intake. Most babies do not have the developmental skills to manage solids earlier than four to six months and this just causes more stress for the baby and for the parents. It usually has very little impact on reflux because the amount of food that baby is actually able to ingest is so small. 4 months is the bare minimum solids should... be introduced. Even then most babies won't be showing all the signs of readiness until closer to 6 months. * * * * * * * #kidsdiet #kidsfood #foodforkids #toddlermums #firsttimeparent #feedingkids #toddlerfoods #toddlerfoodideas #toddlerfoodinfo #feedingtoddlers #feedingbabies #foodforthought #foodforbabies #foodfortoddlers #toddlerfoodrecipes #babyfoodrecipes #whatmykidseat #healthykids #feedmyfamily #follow #playfood #foodplay #babyfood #feedbaby #baby #babies #newborn #newbaby

19.01.2022 Tinned peaches! Theres lots of buzz out there that canned or frozen fruits and vegetables aren't as good for you as the fresh version! Who's heard someone say that they nutrients are removed in processing? I was guilty of this many many years ago before I had any idea what I was talking about when it came to nutrition. The nutrients in canned and frozen fruits and vegetables is usually very similar to fresh and, in some cases, it may be higher than fresh. ... Fruits and vegetables that are to be canned or frozen are usually processed immediately after harvesting meaning the nutrient losses after picking are minimal. Try to opt for fruits in 100% natural juice with no added sugar. Frozen and canned are very convenient options for most families to have on hand. They reduce wastage because they obviously have a much longer shelf life!! #kidsfood #toddlerproblems #babyfood #kidsofinstagram #parenthood #parentsofinstagram #parentingtips #parentlife #mumlife #momlife #witchinghour #firsttimeparents #toddlerfood #foodtips #kidsfoodideas #kidsfoodie #snacksforkids #feedmyfamily #feedingbabies #feedingtoddlers #feedinglittles #toddlerdinner #babydinner #familydinner

15.01.2022 Macronutrient spotlight - Fats. Every now and then a few comments surface about the need to add extra fats to your LO's diet. Whilst your LO absolutely needs fat in their diet~ around 30% of their diet should come from fat, promoting fats at the expense of other macronutrients (protein and carbohydrates) may mean that they are not getting all the nutrients they need. That being said there may be times where we need to promote extra calories, but that should be at the discret...ion of your health care provider. The email we will send out to our subscribers this week will talk all things fats, but as a quick summary: Including less of the foods on the left (saturated fats), in preference for those foods on the right (unsaturated fats) most of the time, and including some fats in your LOs diet at each meal will support their growth needs and long term health. #startingsolids #firstfoods #funfoods #babyfood #feedingbaby #babymealtimes #solidstarts #startingsolidsaustralia #foodforbaby #foodsforbaby #babyfoods #august2020baby #september2020baby #springbaby #feedinglittles #foodie #firsttimemum #breastfeeding #fedisbest #evidencebased #whatdoifeedmybaby #ironrichfoods #babynutritionist #babydietitian #infantnutrition #firsttimemumma #babymum #babysfirstfood #babysfirstmeal #feeding

15.01.2022 Is it 6 months or 4 months? This is a question I get asked constantly! The official recommendation from leading health organisations is "around 6 months". It's up to you how you interpret this. ... In my opinion 4 months is a little too far off to really be considered around 6 months and its better off to wait. Most babies are unlikely to be showing all the signs of readiness at 4 months of age. Theres also next to no benefit of starting solids this young as they don't require any nutrition from foods until closer to 6 months. What's the strangest advice you have been given when it comes to starting solids? * * * * * #kidsdiet #kidsfood #foodforkids #toddlermums #firsttimeparent #feedingkids #toddlerfoods #toddlerfoodideas #toddlerfoodinfo #feedingtoddlers #feedingbabies #foodforthought #foodforbabies #foodfortoddlers #toddlerfoodrecipes #babyfoodrecipes #whatmykidseat #healthykids #feedmyfamily #follow #playfood #foodplay #baby #newborn #firstbaby #firstborn #babybaby #bae #firstfoods

13.01.2022 Introducing high allergen foods can be scary and overwhelming! Thankfully the process is actually quite simple. It's also important to recognise that current advice is a little different to previous recommendations. This isn't a bad thing. As we research more, we learn more and are better equipped to make recommendations! This is the beauty of science - its ever evolving! Introducing all the main allergen foods prior to 12 months and repeatedly exposing your infant to some ...of those allergens (like eggs and peanuts) is recommended to reduce the risk of developing allergies! The Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) has some great resources relating to introducing high allergy foods, and information for those with a current allergy diagnosis. #babypoop #constipation #firstfoods #solids #breastfed #formulafed #fedisbest #breastisbest #6monthsold #firstmeals #babysfirstfood #startingsolids #solidstarts #babymealtimes #babyfood #feedingbaby #babyconstipation #babypoo #feedinglittles #fussybaby #feedingmybaby #5monthsold #babyeating #puree #traditionalweaning #blw #babyledweaning #weaningledbybaby #allergies #allergyfood
