16.01.2022 The Art of Wood-fire exhibition opens in 2 weeks time. Here is one of Owen Rye's monumental bottles. The form was fired in the kiln laying on its side, hence th...e orange patches that are the marks from the wads of clay that supported it. Over the duration of the firing, wood ash has settled on the form and ran, creating these vertical lines. This piece is only one of the many treasure on displayed from the 15th Feb. to 1st March, 2020. John@GalleryJ

15.01.2022 Hey potters : ) I'm wanting to get back into the studio and have access to a kiln! I heard the Hills Association has moved to Macclesfield, who can I chat to about this and becoming a member again? I was going to the old spot in 2017. Thanks!

14.01.2022 Australian Potters open their studios to the Nation! This November hundreds of potters and ceramic artists around the country will open their studios to the pub...lic for the eighth annual Australian Ceramics Open Studios. The event is hosted by The Australian Ceramics Association and shines a spotlight on the diverse practice of Australian artists working today in clay. According to Cathy Franzi, President of The Australian Ceramics Association, this national event is an inspiring opportunity for the broader community to step inside the creative spaces of contemporary potters and ceramicists. It's a chance to experience the wonders of this luscious material and the skilled artisans who develop their unique voice within this ancient practice. The ceramic process is a particularly fascinating one, starting with shaping plastic clay into form, whether that is a cup to drink from or a contemporary sculpture. You might see clay turned into vessels on the potter's wheel or an artist decorating a ceramic surface with intricate imagery before the piece is fired in a kiln. This weekend will offer the visitor a rare glimpse into the spaces where creativity occurs, Ms Franzi said. The general public can unleash their inner artist and participate in workshops, see demonstrations, listen to artist talks, and purchase original ceramics from potters located in suburban backyards, inner city co-operatives and rambling rural settings across Australia on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, from 10am 4pm. Visit www.australianceramicscommunity.com to see the profiles of participating artists around the country. GO TO 2020 OPEN STUDIOS! Entry to all studios is free. Potters will provide a COVID-Safe space for their open studio visitors. Bookings may be required. #australianceramics #australianceramicsopenstudios #australianceramicsopenstudios2020 #acos2020 #acos2020statemaps

02.01.2022 New ClayShare workshop announcement! . We are thrilled to have @ammieyall join us on March 6th 1-3pm eastern time for this fun surface decoration workshop on... ClayShare.com . In this class you will learn how to build a floral design by sketching simple shapes and using different brush sizes to create a variety of brush stroke styles. Ammie will teach what she calls "painting for texture" where she layers different colors of glaze to achieve a playful and fun fired product. Ammie Williams is an artist and designer living in Atlanta, Georgia. Ammie has a BFA in Art Education and loves teaching and helping people create something they didn’t think they could. She has spent the last 10 years working with ceramics and loves sharing (and selling!) her pieces online. When she's not posting on Instagram (this is rare), she enjoys reading, cooking, and playing cards. She often wins at Gin Rummy and can't decide if she's really good at it or just has really good luck. . Go to ClayShare.com for more details and to sign up!
