22.01.2022 This week in the Earthshack roadside shop we have: Native bee hotels Fresh herbs Reusable masks... See you soon!

21.01.2022 It was an absolute pleasure hosting these teenagers in partnership with Casey Tech School. Their questions were fantastic and their enthusiasm was contagious throughout the three hour workshop.

20.01.2022 These giant stockings are starting to appear in our homes and streets again. It's those recycling elves, reminding us that when our socks are far too holey (oh darn! ) they can be recycled in ways like this: https://manrags.com.au/start-with-socks/

20.01.2022 When someone tries to tell you the energy required to produce a solar panel is more than it will ever produce in it's life time... https://www.solarquotes.com.au//solar-energy-payback-myth/

19.01.2022 How do you like your tea? Black? White? Sugar? 11 billion microplastics? At Earthshack we will move to tea leaves until we are 100% convinced we can buy organic tea bags with 0% plastic in the tea bag and zero plastic wrapping. It may seem like a small thing; but never underestimate the difference you can make by doing lots of small things as a consumer. https://www.newscientist.com//2217483-plastic-tea-bags-sh/

18.01.2022 Tagasaste (Tree Lucerne) as fodder Trees These cattle are quick to let us know if our electric fencing isn't great by getting straight into the tagasaste plantation that isn't mature enough for them to browse yet. They love it! They've behaved themselves today, so I threw them a couple of tagasaste branches. The up and coming plantation was originally planted with salt bush & tagasaste, but the neighbours cattle got into it and demolished the lot, and again after replanti...ng! We have found the tagasaste to also cope well in the wind with their bendy branches, so in about 12 months the cattle will be able to browse the trees directly instead of us chopping branches. Cattle are not the only animal that love tagasaste! See more

18.01.2022 It's not very often we can see an environmental documentary and walk away feeling empowered & uplifted. Here it is in Warragul, thanks to the Baw Baw Food Hub: https://fan-force.com/sc/2040-peninsula-cinemas-warragul-3/

17.01.2022 Who am I? Originating in America in 1826, I'm now grown throughout the world in apple growing regions (including Earthshack in Lardner.) I'm tasty both fresh and cooked and have been described as "a balancing act of sweet & tart with an encore of spice" by Kimbo. My name is quite well known, we're quite sure you've heard of this variety before!... For a bit of fun, correct guesses will be in the draw to win 1kg of these beauties! For those who miss out but would like to get their hands on some of these little rippers, message this page. Pick up is usually Lardner, but this Saturday night there will also be a pick up location in Drouin 6:30pm. (Small = 3 for $2, Large= $1 each) Enjoy!

17.01.2022 At Earthshack we've been busy pruning fruit trees & grafting new varieties. Great clip here from Tino at Gardening Australia to help get you started with pruning... or if you're like me & you need a little refresher because you forget what you're doing 12 months after the previous pruning shananigans!! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2401886313237557&id=318086054950937

13.01.2022 On a chilly morning like this, I thought I'd share this link to a cost effective window covering that you can make yourself. I haven't tried it but have read many great reviews from others who have. Windows are the weak point in any build, so effective window coverings can make an enormous difference to comfort and reduced energy bills. Let us know if you give it a try. https://www.instructables.com//Insulating-roll-up-curtain/

12.01.2022 Leadership in a climate emergency looks like this.

11.01.2022 We are looking forward to welcoming visitors to Earthshack again soon. Thankyou for your patience as we navigate the Covid-19 pandemic. And a big shout out to the schools who adopted our online workshop this year, your resilience and adaptability was inspiring. Photo: Earthshack last night Please share one of your favourite sunrise or sunset photos in the comments. So grateful to live in this beautiful country.

11.01.2022 I'm still not sure if I want to say goodbye to the grey look of the posts, but it's too late now...unless we want to stop where we are and have a half/half effect! The interior of Earthshack was finished with all natural products which was super important to us: chalk based paints, linseed oil & citrus concrete sealer, sisal (dried grass) carpet. Externally, many natural products can also be used. These posts are being oiled with a linseed oil product from "Livos" in Bayswate...r Victoria. It's quite fitting really that the table in this photo is still covered with pots and dirt from some cuttings I was planting up yesterday. The products we use in our homes and everyday lives have an impact on the environment at every stage of their life cycle, from the mining of raw ingredients right through to their disposal/ recyclability at their end of their life. So while we swing between growing plants & improving the natural environment here at Earthshack we take our time to source the best products for jobs like this one. Because, at the end of the day, the way I oil these posts will impact the environment in some way, my job it to make sure it's a good way. See more

11.01.2022 For those of you who know us well, you will know this is a topic very close to home. We have the utmost respect for these professionals, and call on all levels of government to listen, unite & respond. #thetimeisnow #politicsaside #respect #firefighterheroes

11.01.2022 In Australia, e-waste is growing up to three times faster than general waste! To protect our environment and ensure valuable materials are recovered, the ...Victorian Government is banning e-waste from landfill starting 1 July 2019. That means that any item with a plug, battery or cord will no longer be accepted in kerbside bins. In Baw Baw e-waste will be accepted for free at our 4 transfer stations: Erica, Lardner, Neerim South, and Trafalgar. To find out more about the ban, visit: http://ewaste.vic.gov.au/

07.01.2022 Have you heard of a "Showerdome?" It is a crystal clear dome roof which you cut to fit perfectly over your shower. Here at Earthshack we are test driving one for you. Popular in New Zealand, the dome should theoretically prevent the bathroom fogging up, condensation and mold. It should also reduce hot water use as the cold air can no longer draft past you. Stay tuned! https://www.showerdome.com.au/

07.01.2022 Ever wondered why there seems to be a push to connect your new home to gas? What about an all electric home instead? This article by Tim Forcey is a terrific read. https://renew.org.au//beyond-solar-pv-renewable-heat-and-/
