25.01.2022 Love this, so simple

25.01.2022 Did you know that the burrows of southern hairy-nosed wombats are communal property, and are not just the home of one wombat? Wombats use up to 10 different b...urrows throughout their home ranges, and one burrow may be used by multiple wombats at different times. We mount motion activate cameras outside wombat burrows to record their comings and goings, and always discover interesting things - like this wombat mother and her juvenile joey outside a burrow enjoying the morning sun. 21.01.2022 Many people will already be aware that the Environmental Effects Statement documents for Kalbars proposed Fingerboards Mineral Sands mine were released for com...ment last Thursday 3rd Sept. Its a massive document, but this proposed project is causing a lot of community concern: https://www.facebook.com/minefreeglenaladale I encourage as many people as possible to find out about it and to make a submission, if they wish. There are very specific instructions about how to do this https://ees.fingerboardsproject.com.au/make-a-submission .... and it needs to be done before 29th October. Here is the link to the EES https://ees.fingerboardsproject.com.au

18.01.2022 Its great to see some people actually listen and act on what needs to be stopped to help our wildlife, especially after we lost so much wildlife in one of the biggest and most devastating bushfires Australia has ever seen and had to endure.

17.01.2022 Some critters just start the work day so awake. Rocky is obviously a morning person or in the wombat world you might say an afternoon wombat. Ive seen many sno...wbats emerge from their holes but Ive never captured that opening of the front door moment like this. Like most of my photos I had to get creative and embraced my inner polar bear hunting a fat seal for this one. Standing motionless over a hole for an hour to make sure no noise carried through the snow and ice. Noise carries very well in the snow which spooks the prey/subject into not coming out. Lucky for Rocky I was there to take her photo and not to make a seal meal like a bear would have. She obviously didnt look unhappy to see me and headed out between my legs, after a sniff of my boot she was off to go find grass. Just for the sake of any people worried about the colour of the fur on her face, it is darker in spots because it is wet, it is not Mange . #snowbat #wombat #polerbear #furrysealhunting #nikonaustralia See more

12.01.2022 Breeding Habits of the Bare-nosed Wombat Although the wombat may breed at any time of the year, mating most often occurs during winter. Sexual maturity is reach...ed between 2 3 years of age. The female has 2 teats in her pouch, yet despite this, 30 days after mating only one young is born. At this stage the joey is the size of a jelly bean and it crawls from the birth canal into the pouch. The joey remains in the pouch for 6 months, after which it stays with the mother until it is 18 months old. From the time the joey leaves the pouch, it begins to substitute increasing amounts of plant material for milk until, when about 15 months old, it stops suckling altogether. Wombats in the wild can live 10 15 years or more depending on favorable conditions in the wild. Due to the long period of time the joey is dependent on the mother, it is likely that females only rear one young every two years.

11.01.2022 Powerful, Sad and something alot of carers and rescuers know all too well

11.01.2022 Howard was killed for separation anxiety. If you are a Victorian resident, you have until TOMORROW to sign for him. Together, weve smashed the record of the b...iggest petition to ever be tabled in the Victorian Parliament - but to really get the attention of the Government, we need to make it even bigger. Howard was only given SIX DAYS in foster carer. When his carer asked the shelter for support from a behavioural specialist, the shelter told the carer to return Howard so he could have knee surgery. They assured her that he would not be killed. They lied. Howard never had his surgery. The shelter killed him instead of giving him the time and support he needed to settle into a new and unfamiliar environment. Its time to end convenience killing in Victoria. Its time to reform shelters. Its time to give rescue groups the opportunity to assist animals, instead of shutting them out. Its time for accountability and transparency. And its time to ensure the shelters who do the right thing arent tarnished by those who do the wrong thing. If youre a Victorian resident, please sign now for Howard, and the thousands of other animals just like him - https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au//view-e-p/details/12/192

11.01.2022 Happy Wombat Wednesday everyone Wishing you all a wonderful day!

10.01.2022 Its National Wildlife Day today. Its a good time to think about what we can do to help our native animals, just like this little guy. As many of you will be a...ware, Ive been working hard to fix Victorias broken wildlife rescue system here in Victoria. The last bushfire season showed to us that our states exceptional, qualified and professional wildlife rescuers and carers are not being trusted or utilised. It means animals are unnecessarily suffering and dying because of a department that is shutting them out. As my team and I work on fixing this, alongside the government, I am holding consultation meetings with wildlife carers across Victoria. I want to hear your experiences, thoughts and how we can build a better system. If youd like to take part, please email [email protected] and state what your role is in wildlife rescue, and where you are from. (Please note: It is important that you email your interest. Facebook and Instagram messages may be missed.)

09.01.2022 Forest Wombat. As long as they are at their Burrow entrance, they will sit and watch you. Nice green pick, makes moist shiny dark green poo.
