25.01.2022 Hi There We are Be - formerly ComLink and we have taken over management of the Eastbank Edible Garden. Be are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping people live fulfilling and meaningful lives. We provide home care packages, transport services, and home and social support to 11 regions across Queensland. We choose to look beyond how things are, to how much better they can be. We understand that this garden holds a special place in the hearts of the community and... we thrilled to come on board and work towards restoring the garden, working with the local community and creating activities for Be clients to enjoy. We are currently working with a couple of local businesses to organise a ‘Community Day’ working bee. We look forward to sharing more updates in the coming weeks.

24.01.2022 The Growing Futures program final began construction of the garden beds thanks to TAFE allowing us to use their undercover area due to another washed out Wednes...day. We're looking forward to some sunshine in the coming weeks so we can finish construction of the children's nature-based play area at Nambour Community Centre. See more

23.01.2022 The Greendog Program is well under way with the design and construction started for the tyre art, sink and bamboo arbour. Participants are not only learning how to use power tools, paint and build with bamboo but they're enjoying the social aspect of the program which helps boost positive mental health. Well done everyone, the projects are going to look fantastic when their finished in a few weeks.

23.01.2022 Lots of action in the garden this week with Year 3A harvesting a whopper 336 bananas from two bunches. They even managed complicated maths to add up each 'hand' to total the amounts. Banana Minions had a total of 161 bananas in their bunch but were slightly out-beaten by Monkeys who added up 175. Year 4B showed of their artistic prowess by modelling unique monsters out of clay to help scare away bad bugs in the garden. They also tended their seedlings they planted a few weeks ago. Well done everyone.

20.01.2022 A major refurbishment has just been finished at the garden. We've been struggling with nut-grass since 2014 and it finally got the better of us. So we've removed the infected soil and replaced it. All 25m3 of it in scorching 34 heat! The gardens are now ready for planting during the edible and therapeutic gardening programs starting shortly...

19.01.2022 Lots of seedlings have been planted in our new soil for the start of the growing season. The Grandparents As Parents (GAP) program and Community Solutions staff enjoyed getting dirt under their (painted) nails and planted lots of veggies, herbs and flowers. Four school groups have also planted out their little seedlings that they'll spend the next few months tending and harvesting.

14.01.2022 It's that time of the year again where we visit the dairy near Eumundi for a trailer load of well composted cow manure. After a very smelly day most of the garden have been refurbished, ready for spring / summer planting.

11.01.2022 Check out what the Growing Places team did to a boring and unproductive corner of a small urban block...

Growing Futures is supported by #UnityWater.

10.01.2022 Our school-based trainees Hayden and Michael have begun harvesting the luffas (aka loofah or plant sponge). Luffa is a cucurbit (a member of the pumpkin, squash and cucumber family). These odd looking 'fruit' grow on a vigorous vine and can be eaten when young. Leaving them grow until they dry on the vine gives them time to turn into a great scrubbing sponge to use in the kitchen or bathroom. (As demonstrated by Hayden...)
