25.01.2022 Because if the flood of patients coming out of Residential Aged Care, the GEM ward became a COVID Ward virtually overnight. We’ve had 53 COVID positive patients through the ward and discharged the last patient last week. Jimmy is one of the dedicated Occupational Therapists we’re celebrating this week for Occupational Therapy Week. Most of the patients weren’t acutely unwell from COVID-19 so within a few days, we could start working on underlying issues while they recovered. This was really a great opportunity to improve the quality of life for the patients who otherwise may never have had this kind of care in an aged care facility.

23.01.2022 NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING Eastern Health advises our 2019/20 Annual Meeting will occur via Facebook LiveStream on Thursday 10 December from 2.00pm

23.01.2022 If you do notice any change, I think it’s really important to get it checked out because we know self-detection is crucial. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Danielle’s powerful personal story is a reminder to stay breast aware, no matter your age.

21.01.2022 The Rethink Addiction campaign has now launched, a sector-wide coalition for change that educates and calls for an improved national response to addiction treatment. You can help end the stigma by joining our campaign, following us on social media and sharing a story of how addiction has touched your life or the life of someone close to you. You can also support Rethink Addiction by watching the SBS series and encouraging family and friends to do the same.... 20.01.2022 Our Pathology teams are working hard, seven days a week to process each and every COVID-19 test. At the moment we are experiencing a longer than usual wait time for results due to demand and our IT system outage. Please do not call our Contact Centre or Pathology Department to follow up on your results. We will be in contact with patients directly as soon as results are processed.... Many thanks for your patience.

19.01.2022 During this time we’re all connected in different ways. What we each do in part affects the whole, and that’s why we on the frontline want to thank you. Thank U for wearing a mask.... Thank U for washing and sanitising your hands. Thank U for keeping a safe distance. Thank U for staying at home, for working from home, and for remote learning. We know it has been tough on everyone, but it’s making a world of difference and especially for us. So to each one of you, we say ‘Thank U’ and please keep supporting us. https://www.wethanku.org.au/

19.01.2022 Please be aware, our three Emergency Departments (Angliss Hospital, Box Hill Hospital and Maroondah Hospital) are currently experiencing very high demand. Please keep the Emergency Department for emergencies. People with non-urgent, non-life-threatening conditions should expect long waits. Alternatives options are available. 16.01.2022 "It's a privilege to do what we do and we're given more opportunity to serve and care for our patients; which is what we're here for." The Eastern Health Aspire to Inspire (A2i) awards recognise our staff who best embody the values of our organisation. Read about our full list of winners here: https://bit.ly/a2iWinners

16.01.2022 We look forward for to sharing the journey of these 10 incredible, brave Australians who we have been working with to tackle their #addiction head-on through a wraparound #treatment model. #AddictedSBS #turningpoint SBS_Australia ... Blackfella Films See more

15.01.2022 "It has been incredibly humbling to have the opportunity to play a part in piloting this treatment model. After this experience, I really hope that this kind of longer-term intervention can become more widespread as we've seen such great value for the participants compared to the treatment options that currently exist." Oscar is one of the Peer Support Workers you may have met during the Addicted Australia documentary last week.... Tune into SBS tonight at 8.30 or catch up via SBS On Demand. #AddictedSBS https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/

15.01.2022 Today is #DroptheJargon Day and brings attention to the language used by health care workers that is sometimes not understood by our patients or consumers. 60% of Australians lack health literacy critical to ensuring positive health outcomes. This can mean they have difficulties, reading instructions on a health education brochure, understanding a consent form, or understanding a doctor’s directions.... 14.01.2022 We all recognise that 2020 has been a year like no other. From the intensity of bushfires, the likes we have rarely seen before, to the global pandemic and all the challenges this has brought us personally and professionally. Thank you to our staff for making Eastern Health, the great place it is to work, learn and receive care.

14.01.2022 I'll be on the evening shift (Christmas eve), so hopefully I can get back and beat Santa home; I’ve got to get the mince pies and milk out for him before midnight! Paediatric Registrar Dr. Chad Lambert is one of the many cheerful Eastern Health faces you might come across if you have to make an unplanned visit to the hospital this holiday season. 13.01.2022 It's Occupational Therapists Week, a time to acknowledge the role occupational therapists play in helping people reach their potential. This year the theme is Resilience: Supporting our communities to rebuild, recover, and re-engage. With so many affected by challenging circumstances in 2020, this years event will shine a spotlight on the value of occupational therapy in our communities. #THISISOT

12.01.2022 Our client isn't just the client. It's everyone that is surrounding them; their loved ones, their carers and their families. Today for #AHPsDay, we’re celebrating our Allied Health Professionals like Rachel Fullgrabe, an Occupational Therapist. It’s important to accept that people have lived their life in a certain way for a long time to. Stepping back and respecting people's choices is key. Being able to embrace someone holistically and looking at that bigger picture allows us to get the best outcome for our clients.

12.01.2022 November is classically the month where all our episodes of thunderstorm asthma in Melbourne have occurred. Professor Frank Thien walks us through the triggers to be aware of as we enter a hazardous period for asthmatics.

11.01.2022 The majority of our IT systems, including email, remain offline given Tuesday's cyber incident. Patients are continuing to receive care as usual, however some elective surgery and some outpatient appointments have been cancelled. Our Emergency departments are open. If your condition is not an emergency, please consider visiting your GP.

09.01.2022 Thank you to the community for their patience given the significant impacts to the Eastern Health Contact Centre. While many of our services remain off-line, the Contact Centre has returned to normal wait times.

09.01.2022 We spend our days trying to enhance people's experience and participation on the ward and help figure out how we can continue that into the community and getting them back to whatever it is they were doing or whatever it is they want to do next. This week we are celebrating the wonderful Occupational Therapists across our health service. Angela is a Senior Occupational Therapist who works in the aged person's inpatient mental health unit at the Peter James centre. I really... enjoy working with over 65 age range, I think they've got a lot to teach us as well and OT wise, it's nice to work in mental health, and also with people who might have some conditions of ageing. From a professional development standpoint, we get to use a lot of our skills across the broad spectrum of OT, incorporating both mental health type skills and looking into supporting people physically, in their participation as well. So it's a nice broad mix of skills that you get to use in this area. The most rewarding thing is that we get to do all the meaningful work to help support patients and just try to make daily life more enjoyable or comfortable while they're here with us; with a greater aim of getting them back to the life that they want to live after this as well.

08.01.2022 14 November is Diabetes Day More than 356,000 Victorians live with diabetes with an additional 80 people developing the condition every day. 08.01.2022 Following the recent Cyber Incident, many Eastern Health systems remain offline. This criminal attack has caused significant disruption to our services and extensive work continues to be undertaken with the support of the state and federal governments, alongside industry IT experts. We sincerely apologise for the delay and inconvenience this situation is causing many of our staff, patients and the broader community. We thank you for your understanding.... Staff and patient safety remains our number one priority. From a patient services perspective: - All three Emergency Departments remain open; - Category 1 elective surgery continues to be provided; - Additional elective surgery resumed today, and - approximately 2/3 of all scheduled outpatient clinic appointments continue to be provided. Further expansion of services will be safely reintroduced as additional systems are restored. For any patient or community enquiries, please phone the Eastern Health Contact Centre on 1300 342 255. Regular updates will continue to be provided.

05.01.2022 Working from home because of the pandemic, we’ve had to change the way we care for people’s mental health. We use telehealth more often but when necessary, we still rely on the connection of face to face interactions. Consumers are looking for safety and anonymity in mental health services, and telehealth is a great way to ensure they feel that way. Josie is a Senior Nurse Case Manager at Maroondah Continuing Care.... In Mental Health, you've got to be able to adapt to a situation really quickly because you never know what a day will hold. 05.01.2022 Thanks to our agile staff for adapting to working in new ways, supporting each other through this change, asking questions and sharing knowledge. This feedback was submitted via Facebook last week.

04.01.2022 Eastern Health Chief Executive David Plunkett and Chief Information Officer Lachlan Bakewell provide an update on the response and recovery to the recent cyber incident.

03.01.2022 Whether working for the Australian Defence Force or as an ICU Clinical Nurse at Eastern Health, Lieutenant Bart Arundell was clearly born for a life of service. I feel like I’m at a home away from home when I’m with the Defence Force, and same when I’m back at nursing because I’m around like minded people. Lieutenant Arundell sees a lot of commonalities between his colleagues in the Health sector and the Defence Force.

03.01.2022 For Dr Sam Evans, preparing for a shift on the Paediatric ward usually involves a spot of yoga and a walk with her sidekick, Breeze the kelpie. Patients often have pets visit to lift their spirits, and when Sam gets home, Breeze always seems to know if her patients have had a furry visitor.

02.01.2022 I knew I had an addiction, but the difficulty was actually getting help. The treatment system for a gambler is severely broken. Lucas, who is battling a gambling addiction, is one of the 10 incredible Australians featured in our powerful series Addicted Australia with Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia and Black Fella Films. His experience highlights the reality of Australia’s broken health system and why we need to treat addiction like any other health condition.... 02.01.2022 Santa does not forget children just because they're in hospital, so there's always a present for them in the morning. Registered Paediatric Nurse Juliet is one of the many faces bringing holiday cheer to the Children’s Ward this Christmas Day. There’s something magical about the day that makes it a bit more special coming into work.

01.01.2022 Hayley is one of the nurses you'd meet on the Paediatric Ward at Box Hill Hospital caring for sick kids. Hayley is known to always have a smile behind her mask and after work loves a good cup of tea and while reading with her child.

01.01.2022 Angliss Hospital and Box Hill Hospital paediatric wards had a very special visit from the Easter Bunny. Thank you Eastland for organising this egg-citing surprise for some of our youngest patients and our staff. Wishing our community a happy and safe Easter.
