25.01.2022 Eastern Himalayas Organic Black Tea ... 100% delicious. #easternhimalayastea #TEAriffic
25.01.2022 Winter in Darjeeling. Tea plant growth is dormant so the tea plants are pruned. In this pruning every old leaf is individually cut from the plant. 1,000’s of plants are stripped of their leaves by these farm workers.
24.01.2022 For 2 days and 3 nights we stayed with Bijit and Swapna Basamutary on their organic tea plantation in Kokrajhar, Assam. 4 years ago we visited Bijit and Swapna on their tea plantation as WOOFA's and as a result of our visit we started our tea business. We are blessed to have them as our major tea supplier and friends. It is always a pleasure to visit them whether tea is being produced or not. It is winter in India at the moment and no tea is being produced. The Assam Tea Boa...rd dictates that tea plucking finished on 10 December last year and until the first rains in March or April when the weather warms up and new leaf starts to grow, the farmers have a rest from tea production. The First Flush or Spring Flush leaves of March and April produce the premium teas and we are looking forward to buying some of these for our customers. Leaving Bijit and Swapna, we are on our way to the State of Meghalaya, an ajoining state to Assam, for the last part of our 2 weeks in India.
24.01.2022 In spite of its name, brewed white tea is pale yellow. Its name derives from the fine silvery-white hairs on the unopened buds of the tea plant, which give the plant a whitish appearance. #whitetea #easternhimalayastea

17.01.2022 Trish and I have arrived in Darjeeling. It is cold. We have come to look for teas to add to our range of teas. Staying at Happy Valley Homestay, an inexpensive lodge with a very hospitable host. The homestay is clean and we are happy here as a place to use as our base for the few days we are here. Derek
15.01.2022 Sharing our story (and tea) at the Australian International Tea Expo
13.01.2022 Our last 2 days in India before travelling to The Phillipines. We are staying at the Rural Resource Training Centre in the State of Meghalaya, adjacent to Assam. RRTC is a government funded private rural trading centre run by the Catholic Church, focusing of micro and marginal land farming, using organic, low cost and intensive farming practices. A crop of Camellia Sinensis (tea) plants are now one year old for use in training small tea plantation producers. We are here for the last 2 days of our time in India.
11.01.2022 Yesterday we went to a tea garden deep into one of the many valleys in these Darjeeling mountains. We thought it was a small tea garden, 5 acres. We heard the owners of the garden were not working the plantation however the employees were producing tea themselves. The 3 gardens owned by the same company has 8,000 acres of tea. There are 1,360 full time employees, the ownership is in dispute between 3 companies, the employees who also live on the estates make and sell tea sepe...rate from the owners. The local magistrate has locked out the disputing owners and is supporting the farm workers making a living. Tea is produced in the kitchens of the farm workers homes. 1,360 little tea production houses. The tea is pooled and sold as a combined pool of tea. Doing it for 3 years. We were met by 15 men and given a very humbling welcome. With expectation in their eyes we were asked if we would buy some tea. We thought their expectation was 100’s of kilos but theirs was a few kilos. It was a humbling day for us. See more

05.01.2022 This morning we walked into a tea drinkers gem. Mayukh tea sellers in Darjeeling. We were treated to tea tasting of a variety of different teas by Rujan Mukhia and Priya Tamang. 04.01.2022 Last day in Darjeeling and we were graciously hosted by Bhawesh and Sonya Niroula of Niroula’s Tea Farm. Niroula’s Tea Farm is a small organic tea farm processing leaf from their own 3 hectare farm and from over 100 small and micro tea growers. Nestled on one of the many ridges below Darjeeling, Niroula’s Tea Farm produces beautiful first flush, second flush, Autumn flush and Monsoon Flush teas. Bhawesh treated us to a tasting of the teas produced at Niroula’s. Tasting Firs...t Flush tea is like drinking fine champagne. The Smoky tea is also a very interesting and popular tea. First Flush tea plucking and processing commences in March and Eastern Himalayas Tea will have these champagne teas available in April.
