24.01.2022 Thank you to the 50 odd individuals from a wide range of organisations and councils across Manningham, Whitehorse, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges for your involvement in today's Virtual Collaborative Community of Practice. Some key tips from Guest Presenter; Professor John Catford (Victorian Government appointed Public Health Specialist Adviser, COVID Pandemic Response): * personal hygiene and physical distancing are still the best strategies for minimising the spread of Covid... * Be patient and if in doubt ask yourself: 1) Does this activity actually need to take place? 2) Is it necessary for me to be in the vicinity of others? 3) If yes; How can I adapt this service or my actions in a long-term sustainable manner and meet the current restriction guidelines? In a nutshell, Professor Catford urged us all to err on the side of caution and wherever possible; function below the permitted quotas for gatherings. In other words, just because you can (currently) have 5 people in your home - doesn't mean you should (or that its safe to do so.) The recommended '1 person per 4 square metres' isn't actually achievable in many spaces. 17.01.2022 I don't usually like dealing in hypotheticals. But this one's important because it's where we were heading just a few weeks ago. This morning Victoria's Chief... Health Officer released coronavirus modelling for our state. These projections tell us that without physical distancing, Victoria could be facing up to 58,000 new cases a day during the peak of the virus. 10,000 people would need ICU beds. 7,000 would need ventilators. And 650 Victorians would die. Every day. I want to reinforce how serious this is. Because I know some people are getting frustrated. It's difficult not being able to do the things you enjoy. But if we all started ignoring the advice I can assure you Victoria would become a very different place. And no game of golf or fishing trip is worth it. It's just not. The restrictions we have in place are working. The data shows us that. And the experience of other countries shows that lifting restrictions too quickly throws away all that hard work. So our message remains the same: Stay home. Protect our health system. Save lives.

CASI is a phoneline manned 9-5 weekdays that will directly refer individuals to relevant local services and resources of interest. Attend this event so that we can refer members of our community your way! This meeting is your opportunity t...o express interest in being one such service provider for those experiencing isolation and loneliness in our community. We hope to see you (on zoom) there! This Chatline is manned 10:30am-4:30pm weekdays and a great first point-of-call for any queries you may have.

09.01.2022 The Manningham Volunteer Resource Service [MVRS] is running a new project, addressing unemployment amongst youth. Empowered, confident and connected youth lead to a brighter and safer community for all. MVRS has partnered with Manningham Youth Services and Gateway LLEN in this council funded initiative. COVID-19 has had a significant effect on everyone. In Manningham, the unemployment rate amongst youth has increased by seventy per cent. This has had an impact on the mental ...health status and general wellbeing of youth in Manningham as well as the broader community. The uncertainty of what last year entailed left the last cohort of students and young people with limited opportunities to flourish into their chosen employment pathway. To avoid a compounding effect when the current cohort is job-ready, Manningham Council has funded the Manningham Youth Employment Pathways Project. The MYEPP project will aim to break through the multiple barriers to employment such as qualifications, access and transport, communication and presentation skills and job readiness. The delivery will be over three tiers: in-school and knowledge-based workshops, youth volunteer placements and youth case management. Organisations, businesses, and agencies within Manningham who have a desire to keep connected within their community will join the MYEPP program to deliver meaningful volunteering experiences to our young people. This community capacity building will lead to greater employment opportunities for the youth of Manningham, while not-for-profit and profit businesses alike, have a chance to showcase and promote their services, products and team to the wider community. 09.01.2022 Eastern Volunteers has new transport services for the local government areas of Yarra Ranges, Maroondah, Whitehorse and Manningham . Please share if you know someone who could benefit for having their shopping done for them or their medications delivered. We are also still transporting people over 65 yrs and those under 65 with a disability to urgent medical appointments.
