17.01.2022 Be sure to read the nutrition label when giving your children pre-packaged foods. You can't judge a food by its label!

16.01.2022 Wow! That's a lot of unhealthy advertising aimed at our children, no wonder it is an uphill battle to get them to eat healthily!

16.01.2022 For those of you who think substituting coconut oil in your cooking is the healthy option, think again....

14.01.2022 I hope all of my friends, family and clients are are staying well and are coping in these unusual and unprecedented times Now, while we are all trying to stay home as much as possible, and not go out in public too often I wanted to remind everyone of the importance of a sound and nutritious diet to see us through the next few months. We want to be eating a diet rich in nutrients to boost our immune system during this pandemic. And as well as going into winter and the tradit...ional cold and flu season. How do we eat a diet rich in nutrients? It’s very simple. Eat at least 5 serves of vegetables and at least 2 fruit a day. Make the fruit and veg are as colourful as you can so that you get the whole gamut of nutrients. Not only will you be stocking your immune system up with all the vitamins and minerals it needs but you’ll also be stocking up your system with all important fibre Now is not the time to start a diet that eliminates any food groups or sit back and eat a lot of highly processed pre-packaged food that are high in salt, fat and added sugars. Because we need to limit the amount of time we are out and about it is a good idea to stock up on your fresh fruit and veg as well as some frozen veg and canned veg and legumes (but be careful of high sodium content in some cans) so that you are able to eat the fresh foods first and limit waste while still having a good range of frozen and canned foods to get you through until your next shop. By boosting your immune system, you are better placed for having milder symptoms of COVID -19 if you catch it. The other issue that we may encounter during this period of home isolation is lack of exercise which can lead to constipation. So, by eating a diet high in fruit and veg you will also be eating a diet high in fibre and helping to keep the bowels in good working order. Please visit my website www.eat2livenutrition.com.au for some veg filled recipes. I’ll be adding new ones frequently to stop food boredom See more

13.01.2022 New research has found that when unhealthy food and drink brands sponsor kids’ sport programs parents are more likely to recognise, choose and view these brands... in a positive light. It’s concerning to think big food and drink are getting a free pass, sneakily pushing their promotion on to parents and children through supporting grassroots sports. It’s time for the Government to stop allowing corporations to exploit grassroots sports to promote their unhealthy products. https://bit.ly/2HU4JzR See more

10.01.2022 More evidence of untruthful advertising of children's snacks. Read your labels

08.01.2022 You are what you eat, but when it comes to your mental health, what you eat can have a profound impact on your mood and how you feel. In my latest podcast, I ex...plore the rapidly moving world of nutritional psychiatry which is uncovering the key links between diet and mental health. And it could just be that it is our gut microbes, by acting as psychobiotics, that are the stars of the show here; so long as they are kept fed well. 01.01.2022 Folate is a vitamin important in growth and development. Everyone needs folate, but it is especially important for women to get enough of it during the early st...ages of pregnancy to help reduce the risk of foetal brain and spinal cord abnormalities such as spina bifida. In my latest podcast, I look at the key roles of folate in the body, explain how it helps prevent birth defects and the key dietary and supplement sources of it.
