24.01.2022 Today marks the start of This Girl Can Week! Too many Victorian women are hesitant to be physically active because they feel embarrassed, are scared of being judged or are worried that they are not fit enough. This Girl Can encourages women to overcome that hesitance and give physical activity a go! You don’t need flashy active wear, you don’t need to have a certain level of fitness and you don’t need to spend a lot of money. In fact, it’s the exact opposite! No matter your ...age, gender, size or fitness level, everybody (yes, every body) can be physically active in any way they like. In celebration of This Girl Can, we are looking for local women to share their stories of how they keep physically active. Perhaps you play a sport; maybe you hit the gym; you might walk or cycle to work. Whatever you do to get active, we want to hear about it! You can share your story in the comments or email it to: [email protected] If you are looking for ways to be active in Swan Hill and surrounding areas, you can view the many options available here (including women-only options): Swan Hill and District Physical Activity Options 2021 http://ow.ly/JcDG50E4BNw We can’t wait to hear how you get active! #ThisGirlCanVic

17.01.2022 It’s official! Swan Hill District Health is committed to becoming a Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) accredited health service. BFHI was developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in 1991 and aims to protect, support and promote breastfeeding. Health services are assessed against the ‘10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding’ by the Australian College of Midwives. A morning tea was held on Monday to launch SHDH’s commitment... by opening a series of photographs titled ‘Wherever, Whenever.’ The photos of local mums breastfeeding in our local community help celebrate and create supportive environments for breastfeeding. Speakers for the morning included Health Promotion Officer Tennille Harrison, Breastfeeding Support Service Nicole McKay, Midwifery Acting Nurse Unit Manager Cheryl Delmenico and Director of Clinical Care Chloe Keogh. SHDH wants you to know we are on your team! We are fully supportive of all mothers, regardless of feeding choices and circumstances. BFHI is about improving healthcare for babies, mothers and families by providing up-to-date information and appropriate support both during pregnancy and after the baby has been born. This will help our women and families make informed decisions about how best to care for their baby and themselves. Each month we will be sharing information about each of the ’10 Steps’ so keep an eye out!

13.01.2022 In celebration of This Girl Can Week, we are sharing stories of local women who are physically active in different ways. Below, Djemila (Jamie) shares her story of being active at KB Exercise Physiology prior to and throughout her pregnancy. "Regular and safe exercise during my first pregnancy has allowed me to continue to work, remain pain free, reduce weight gain and will hopefully assist me with delivery of my baby and postnatal recovery. Visiting KB Exercise Physiology on a weekly basis has helped me mentally and build confidence for my birth. *For information about the benefits of Exercise Physiology, please contact KB Exercise Physiology at: [email protected] or 0418775312
