25.01.2022 In line with the new COVID restrictions over the next 10 days. We will recommence classes Tuesday 12th Jan. We will recommence 25-minute classes, giving students 5 minutes to leave the facility before the next group comes in. Please come, swim, and promptly go home. ... We will position our seating to facilitate the best social distancing and as we will continue to sterilise between the morning and the afternoon classes. This is now standard for us and will continue indefinitely. Enter the pool enclosure through the front gate and exit through the side gate. In line with current recommendations and restrictions you are not required to wear masks, we are outdoors and capable of socially distancing. You are welcome to wear your masks if you wish. Parent assisted classes, teachers will handle your children a little less than usual, to facilitate social distancing between you and the teacher. We’ll give you lots of instructions on how to handle them for the next two weeks consider it a master class in infant aquatics. Thank you to everyone for being so cool about restrictions these last three days. Whenever we have a little hiccup like this, we’ll provide missed lessons into winter, when we usually close. This season we are scheduled to finish on the 29th May and stand down for winter. We will continue into June to provide any missed lessons due to intermittent lock downs. Love Tanya p.s. Teaching practices are to handle your children from the side, behind and at arms-length whenever possible. Advice is to wear masks in workplaces when it’s safe to do so it’s been established by the CDC that wet masks are both a danger to the user and that a wet mask is ineffective. Following this advice our teachers will not be using masks while in the pool. P.p.s. This photo was totally taken before social distancing was required!!!

25.01.2022 I quit today at about 1pm. Who else didnt make the day?

24.01.2022 Where are the kids? My dog does not accept that I came home from school drop off without the kids. He clearly thinks Ive forgotten something.

24.01.2022 If I were a little COVID cuddly and not fitting into my swimmers, is it OK to teach in my PJs. Asking for a friend.

24.01.2022 Michelle is our Vice Principal. She keeps this ship steady, running the day to day operations between her brilliant teaching shifts. Michelle Working with kids to teach them safety and independence and the sport gives me lots of job satisfaction. Her favourite thing to teach is Teaching the kids to love the water, helping kids overcome their fears and anxieties to develop a healthy level of confidence. I am so proud to see the kids who don’t naturally love the water becom...e safe and confident little swimmers. Competitively Michelle’s favourite stroke is butterfly. Thing she says the most as a coach Bubble, bubble, bubble, roll to breathe I think I say it in my sleep. Meet the whole team https://www.littlebigswim.com.au/swimschoolatbunya/

23.01.2022 https://www.littlebigswim.com.au/enrol/ One thing I hate saying when people want to join us "I'm so sorry, we're full". When we are full, we don't take waiting lists. I hate it the idea of a child waiting for us, rather than finding a spot somewhere else. We're pretty tight in our school aged program, but if your swimmer is aged between 3 months and kindy aged next year, we're accepting all enrolments for 2021 now. Our timetable for January is being completed next week. If you've been sitting on the fence, now is the time to join us.

23.01.2022 This is an actual photo of me reading the responses to our Swim School Survey. If you missed the link, here is it. Cant wait to share our responses with the teaching team on Monday next week. Were getting together to plan the NEW swim season - kick off August 31st! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XGH257S

22.01.2022 Model call for Little Big Swimmers keen to help with a community service. We are filming 40-50 free videos teaching parents how to teach their children to swim. The covid crisis has seen 1 out of 5 swim schools close and an unprecedented number of parents unable to afford swimming lessons. Were building this video library so anybody, anywhere can learn to swim the Little Big way. No child should be without these life saving skills. Were looking for Little Big Swimmers who are keen to be involved. Check your inbox for details!

22.01.2022 Swimming teaches me most - that effort equals reward and how to stick at it. Swimming taught me grit.

21.01.2022 If you've thought 'Man I'd LOVE to teach swimming', if you're a new instructor, if you're a seasonsed instructor and after some food for thought. This is Tanya's series on Little Big Swim's Teaching Philosophies and Behaviour Managmenet Strategies. Use them as a foundation to build your own teaching practices and create a culture of joy and connection in your classes. Visit the playlist here to see the first 8 videos in this planned series. https://youtube.com/playlist We are always happy to have new instructors out to our pool to do their prac hours. Helping you develop your own unique teaching practices as well as teaching you the nuts and bolts of Learn to Swim and Stroke Development.

20.01.2022 I love this. I also feel for the person cleaning the filter. Also... these dogs all have no collars, how are we telling them apart?

20.01.2022 To all the parents watching their child put stroke together. It takes time, because it's complicated. But the TRYING, that's the stuff that grit and tenacity are made of. When you bring them to stroke development classes, they're learning SO much more than stroke. They're learning that even if they think they CAN'T, they CAN, with effort.

20.01.2022 Little Big Pool off duty. We miss you Little Big Swimmers!

20.01.2022 Happy Anniversary to Miss Kristen - 6 years in our pool AND welcome to her littlest person for his FIRST swim.

20.01.2022 COVID closure we will close the pool from midday today (29th March) to 10th April. This will cover covid closures and our week off for Easter break. We will cover the lost swim times by swimming a week into June, when we would normally close for winter (Saturdays and Mondays also have another catch up from the previous hard covid lock down). Stay safe and love your people,... Love Tanya See more

20.01.2022 To the women of Little Big. Happy International Women’s Day. Strong women. May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them. I could not have gotten two businesses through COVID without this amazing group of women. ... I could not have made it through our daughters cancer without these women. These women are strong women who I am blessed to know and love

19.01.2022 Your best is always enough, even when you dont think it is. If this week has left you stressed beyond the telling of it. Take heart. This little biscuit, our daughter Lara, missed a solid 18 months of school, over a 3-year period while she was undergoing treatment for Leukaemia and is doing just fine academically. Lara completely missed three terms of grade one, then had mostly half days and extended periods of isolation for the following 2 years. . There is so much revision... at school, anything missed over these 5 or more weeks will be revised when our children are back at school. Look after your relationship with your child, look after their little hearts first. Full disclosure even on the days Lara was well enough to school, I was SO emotionally unavailable to teach her, so I didnt even try. I was so stressed or so sad or so overwhelmed the thought of even having her read to me was too much. She used to pretend to be sleeping when the hospital school-teachers came to our room and I let her. What I did do is make sure she knew how much she was loved. For what its worth - my personal, practical advice for home schooling? Kids dont need to be working at the same rate they do at school. There is so much behaviour management and activity transition (and revision) at school that takes up a lot of time. If youre struggling, at home, two or three hours of good work beats six or seven hours of being yelled at, any day. The hours dont have to be consecutive hours in fact its easier on both of you if they are not. It doesnt have to be within school hours, it doesnt have to be Monday to Friday. A friend who is a teacher is working with her children 7-9am each day and then giving them a written guideline that includes a little more self guided work, tidying the house, playing outside, screen time and eating while she works from 9-3. Its OK to hate some days. If the day was horrible, a great kiss goodnight and I love you, Im sorry today was horrible, lets do better tomorrow goes a long way.

19.01.2022 Just getting the car ready to drop the kids off at school in the 25th May.

18.01.2022 How fast you swim when the heater has been turned off

18.01.2022 Teaching a child how to turn around veritcally in the water is a CRITICAL survival skil. If they fall into a pool, they will rarely do that facing the side - they'll fall in facing away from the side where it's safe. This is how our teach teach a vertical turn around.

17.01.2022 I was working with a friend's child yesterday at their home and they said her progress in my time with her in the water was more than at her swim school for the season. This appears to be witchcraft or super powers on my part, but I'll confess my secret. Teach it slow. Swimming isn't a frantic move. Even when you're racing, and it's a CONTROLLED, fast move, never frantic. ... Slow movements are easier to learn. They're easier to complete. Slow movements don't demand a lot of breath control from us. If an emerging swimmer is asked to move quickly in the water, then they'll need a breath much sooner than a slow controlled movement. We can't do anything fast that we haven't first learnt slowly. When you're working with your emerging swimmer take care to talk quietly and slowly and their movements are likely to mirror this. A long freestyle push through the water takes time and is graceful and MOVES you very effectively through the water. A frantic doggie paddle wastes energy, breath and doesn't get you very far in the water. In learn to swim, the turtle most definitely wins this race.

17.01.2022 I'd like to say no floatie was harmed in the filming of this video, but that would be a lie. Some tips on if how to use them, if you MUST put floaties on your swimmers.

16.01.2022 Any Patricks Road SS Little Big Swimmers, I am a timekeeper for the school swimming carnival on Friday. So if your Mum and Dad can't be there, I'll be there screaming myself hoarse with encouragement for your swim. Remember, hold form, don't touch the bottom, and Be Safe, Be Fair, Be Brave.

15.01.2022 Nothing. Feels. Better.

15.01.2022 Blast from the past. Our last Little Big Swim Charity Swimming Carnival. SO want to have another one of these.

15.01.2022 Miss Tina is the Head of Stroke Development. If Tina could be a fish she would love that. She swam competitively at quite a high level and has a swim crush on breaststroke. Tina’s background in competitive stroke make her an EXCELLENT technician when teaching stroke. Tina grew up around water ways and understands how quickly such a fun place can become dangerous to young children. Her drive to teach is to develop water competency to prevent drowning.... On the rare occasion when you find her NOT in her togs, she is spending quality time with her teen and extended family, probably at the beach in her togs. Meet the whole team https://www.littlebigswim.com.au/swimschoolatbunya/

15.01.2022 If you’ve been enjoying our recent Learn to Swim videos, you can download our app to view them all. First 12 of a planned 52 up now. Next instalment... stroke development! Good play link in the comments https://apps.apple.com/au/app/little-big-swim/id1227361360

14.01.2022 For those of you who met our goats, Gruff and Thunder, they’re good sharers.

14.01.2022 Whoever came up with Stop it, I dont like it as a come back for bullying needs slapped. This is a little concept we worked on over at Bravery Box - Rewards for Kids with Cancer. My daughter Lara and my magnificent sister Deb talking about how to prepare and how to come back when someone hurts your feelings. Man, I love these two humans.

13.01.2022 Thank you Rennick Gas and Plumbing for fixing our showers! Warm showers are back BABY!!!! Give Tim and his team a bell if you have any Gas or Plumbing needs. They are great guys. Lochie who fixed our showers learnt to swim here back in the day! Love that.

13.01.2022 This happened a few years ago. She got herself nice and caught in the creepy crawly. We took the whole crawly down to the creek to give her time to move through it. She seemed to like the creek as she didnt grace us with her presence again. I think the pump room was nice and cosy. Perhaps a little cuddle with the creepy coils made her feel loved.

13.01.2022 SO much screen time in their home schooling today. Running breaks every 20 minutes. My step counts are an embarrassment. We got a super early start so we can have a super early finish and enjoy the day.

11.01.2022 Right now you may feel like youre the rope in a game of tug of war, but its not really a rope, its like youre the middle of a spiders web and there are dozens of people pulling you in dozens of directions. One of my most useful tools, that got me through our daughters cancer treatment was this phrase. Protect and Prioritise. When we are immersed in chaos, its easy for our relationships to be the last thing we care for. However our relationship with ourselves, and our f...amily should be the very FIRST thing we protect and prioritise. When Im OK, the children are OK and then everything else feels a little easier. Theres no short cut in figuring out how to do this for yourselves. Finding compassion, for ourselves, and for our family, acknowledging that this is genuinely and legitimately hard and something we are all learning. Giving ourselves permission to get it wrong, forgiving ourselves mistakes and trying again is a really good place to start.

11.01.2022 Meet Miss Hayley Oh I think they’re my new favourite! is what we hear Hayley say after almost every single lessons. Hayley has a soft spot for the naughty and the most quirky swimmers, because she was the naughty and quirky kid herself.... Hayley’s favourite stroke to teach is backstroke and freestyle. Competitively her stroke was backstroke. When she’s not in the pool you, might find Miss Hayley searching for the most perfect bakery snack. Meet the whole team https://www.littlebigswim.com.au/swimschoolatbunya/

11.01.2022 Colouring in competition for our Little Big Swimmers (and their parents - ISO entertainment is getting serious). Instructions are on the link - theres a pool party in it for the winner - you know, when we can have pool parties again. http://www.littlebigswim.com.au//colouring-in-competition-

11.01.2022 We DO have a return to the pool plan. Last thing you want to hear during a cold snap is a return to the water plan! Never fear well not make you get in when its baltic. Looks like it will be a spring return for us (legally well be allowed to return in Winter but on behalf of all of us... NOPE).... Well get the details out to you via email and text link next week - lets let school go back next week - get our sanity back before we start new life admin. Ill send out our Plan Alphabet with several options for you to choose from depending on what suits your family most. Like all industries its kind of impossible to predict what restrictions will be in place for our industry, however we are outdoors with plenty of poolside social distancing space with tiny classes so Im predicting there wont be an enormous amount of change for us, logistically speaking. Lets do some more waiting and seeing.

11.01.2022 For anxious swimmers, knowing they have some control in the water is SUPER important. These are some great holds you can use with your anxious swimmer. We show you how to progress as your swimmer gains confidence.

10.01.2022 Happy Easter! My friend found a possum getting a head start on her kids Easter Egg hunt!

10.01.2022 Swimmers will see the elbow recovery and hand positions, head position for the water. Non swimmers will cry at the core stability required for this.

10.01.2022 That moment when you’re super pleased that you teach Danielle’s children from Danielle's Buttercream Dream

10.01.2022 Some familiar faces here - some of the team talk about why they LOVE teaching at Little Big Swim. I can confidently say, our teaching time right now are my DREAM team (providng we include Miss Teja, who is with us in spirit).

05.01.2022 Myth buster. TWO people can stand on the crocodile mat AT THE SAME TIME. Busted, not if theyre related to me. Tanya

05.01.2022 You may have seen this little firecracker poolside. This is my daughter Lara. Lara inspired the Bravery Box - Rewards for Kids with Cancer when she was just 6 years old and began 800 days of cancer treatment. Bravery Box help kids and teens with cancer find a little joy, courage and connection during treatment. Love Tanya Allan

04.01.2022 Tanya on the Aquatic Mentors podcast, talking about how teaching swimming is about SO much more than stroke. Learning to swim is the stuff tenacity is made of. https://blubrry.com/aquaticmentors/70020354/tanya-allan/

04.01.2022 Weve been talking about this for weeks! Its also Auntie Lizs birthday today. So its fish tacos and a zoom happy birthday sing song with Italy for us today! 04.01.2022 Poor mans endless pool

03.01.2022 In a short 40 seconds, this really does sum up what it feels like to be a Little Big Swimmer. In Isaacs own words... Im a LIttle Big Swimmer, forever. Thank you Recap Media for working your visual storytelling magic with us.

02.01.2022 https://www.littlebigswim.com.au/shop/ You may have seen us using this AWESOME alternative to floaties at our swim school. Honestly, it's a game changer in building confidence. It allows a child to explore the water and their abilities in a natural swim position, but also means they can get their heads up for a breath. It's the unicorn magic alternative to floaties. We are SO proud to announce that we are the newest Qld partner to distribute Swim Fin to the adoring public. ... This was designed by a swim teacher with more years experience than my years on the earth. He is A-Ma-Zing. Pick UP available at the swim school or postage available in our new little shop.

02.01.2022 I tell my kids Life is too short for matching socks. We have a sock box where all the socks live and if theyre inclined they may match their own. One likes matching socks and doesnt mind spending life matching socks. My other child embraces chaos and LOVES mismatched socks. If you match or dont match, children as young as 3 can be working at pairing socks. Take care not to do ALL the jobs.

02.01.2022 Our original teaching team , plus one very special junior

01.01.2022 Parents of multiples, youre my hero. Little Big have more than our fair share of twins, because we have a special little program, just for them. https://www.littlebigswim.com.au/blog/swimming-with-twins/

01.01.2022 Our coaching philosophy - Whole, Part, Whole. Sometimes a parent sitting poolside will wonder why we're not encouraging a kick if their child isn't kicking. This will be because we're coaching arms, or breathing, or timing. We focus on one correction at once. Otherwise we would spend the entire lesson saying 'No, not like that' which is never great for any athlete, regardless of age. This video is part of a coaching series Tanya has made for industry teachers. It's a great explanation of why our teaching makes sense to our swimmers and why our swimmers continue to LOVE swimming here.
