23.01.2022 STICKY FAITH 2021 As most of you will know, last year at Edwardstown Baptist Church, we launched Sticky Faith a capital building emphasis that seeks to : Up...date our children’s ministry space (expanded areas, playground, and education facilities). Create some multi-use space for Next Generations work. Create spaces for vocational ministry training, and life discipleship movements. Update our 60 year old toilets. Expand our foyer and kitchen area to facilitate effective hospitality. Expanding ministry capacity without debt detracting from future funding availability We have called this Sticky Faith because we are praying that the facilities we are updating provide a fantastic platform in which we can pass our faith from one generation to another. In other words, to let our faith STICK to the next generation and others as God enables. Last year, the church approved the Sticky Faith initiative, and off we went. Until we hit COVID. The total project cost was presented to the church at approx. $1.5 M, with church approval to proceed, both in construction with funds in hand, and approval to initiate an opportunity for generous giving by the EBC church family. If you look closely, you will notice, that despite COVID-19 that there is already a LOT of building activity going on!! And this even before we have officially launched Sticky Faith as a giving opportunity! Let me give you a little history of how we have gotten to this point. Several years ago we started on a process of identifying housing properties that could be surplus to our vision, renovating them and bringing them to the market to obtain very good prices. Some families in the Church have already been generous by making commitments and gifts, to the point where collectively we have approximately 2/3rds of our Sticky Faith project funded. This is amazing!! That is the reason why we have been able to build new offices and commence the work in a COVID-19 uncertain environment on the café, kitchen, new toilets, GROW kids suite, and are progressively working towards increasing the footprint of the foyer for fellowship and community purposes. The generosity of our EBC family is evident already, even as we seek to give the entire church family a chance to prayerfully participate. Back in the mid-1950s Jim Elliot wrote these words before he gave his life reaching out to an unreached South American Indian tribe: He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose. This applies to both our lives and our possessions. As I said a few weeks ago, this is the first time in my life that I have seen a church building project commenced 2/3rds funded. Add to that a COVID-19 pandemic and we were wondering how, in faith, all the pieces would fit together. Robert Le Tourneau wrote in his autobiography that he had found through real life experience that you cannot out give God. So you are invited WE are invited to begin exploring together and individually, how we might respond to God’s work, and participate in this Sticky Faith program. 19.01.2022 Happy Holidays!!! Here is what's happening over the next few weeks for Grow Kids. For Easter Friday and Sunday gatherings families stay together, we have a kids story being read at out and a little fun sheet to do (no kids programs at all). On April 11th get excited for an end of term celebration with programs for all kids Year 6 and under. Then for April 18th and 25th only Seeds will be open for our youngest kids (under 3). Enjoy Easter and your holidays!
