17.01.2022 More great advice from Employsure.

05.01.2022 A Melbourne restaurateur, his 2 companies and his in-house accountant have been penalised $209,000 for underpaying workers. Fair Work Inspectors found that 30 ...employees across two restaurants have been underpaid a total of $30,995. With employees being paid flat hourly rates of between $10 per hour and $23.33 per hour. Some worked six or seven days a week, and over 10 hours a day. The exploitation of migrant workers is unacceptable as they can be particularly vulnerable in the workplace due to language barriers or visa status. Minimum wage rates apply to everyone in Australia, including visa-holders, and they are not negotiable. This outcome should serve as a warning to all employers to pay their workers correctly. We encourage any employees with concerns about their pay or entitlements to speak up and contact the Fair Work Ombudsman. 02.01.2022 We know a lot of employees have reduced their hours to help out during the downturn. As restrictions begin to ease and businesses start planning for reopening, ...it’s a good time to start a discussion about what your work hours will look like going forward. These conversations can be difficult, but there are a few things you can do to get ready, like: - Check your award or enterprise agreement and your employment contract, and any workplace policy that might apply. - Think about what’s going to work best for you and your employer. Think through what suits you and why, and also think about how that might help the business. If you can explain how a different working pattern will help the business you’re more likely to get it across the line. - Be open, be flexible, be clear about what you're asking for and, be open to new ideas. Your boss might have information about their plans that you weren’t aware of, or other ideas about how things could work. Our Difficult Conversations online training course has more tips and can help you prepare: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/how-we-will-help/online-training
