25.01.2022 Beachgoers: Stinger net Installation The weather is heating up which means we are entering stinger season. Stinger nets are scheduled to be installed a...cross the region from Wednesday 28 October 2020, weather permitting. Nets will be situated at: Etty Bay Kurrimine Beach Mission Beach South Mission Beach During the warmer months, marine stingers may be present in our tropical waters. You can minimise your risk of getting a nasty sting by always swimming in stinger nets where provided, wearing protective clothing, and not swimming when beaches are closed. For the current status of beaches located in our region, please visit the Surf Life Saving website at: http://www.nqlifesaving.com.au/beach-reports/ First Aid for Tropical Marine Stings 1. Call for medical help (ring 000). 2. Assess the patient and perform CPR if necessary. 3. Douse the sting site with vinegar as soon as possible. Vinegar inactivates the stinging cells, preventing them from injecting more venom. 4. Reassure the patient and keep calm until medical help arrives. 5. Wait at least 45 minutes before re-entering the water as symptoms of Irukandji syndrome can take a while to develop. 6. An exceptional work ethic with a focus on customer safety and service. Is Highly adaptable and able to work as an individual or as part of a team. Preferable: Senior first aid certificate, vertical rescue 3 or equivalent, swift water cert and experience as a guide on a river and/or other outdoor adventure facilitating. Must be physically fit. 20.01.2022 I cannot thank the guides, Jay and Dan enough, for their professionalism, enthusiasm and care to ensure that everyone who joined the white water rafting experie...nce had an enjoyable time. I was a little unsure how I would take my 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter, however, my kids were determined and Jay and Dan made it work. Thank you . Jay took Ella and made her feel safe and he chatted with ease whilst caring for all other rafters. A few months ago I had the privilege of filming and co-hosting a personal devlopment and yoga retreat at the beauti...ful Echo Ck Adventure Center near Tully, North Queensland. All the facilitators were amazing and the participants present in mind and soul as they released torment and discovered things about themselves that they had burried deep withing their subconscious. Thank you Franki Jay for running another amazing experience and to our co-facilitators Jade Vanderjagt, Matt Hurley, Jordan Rachelle, Dominica Watt, Michael OB Olabode, Mark Jorgensen. 04.01.2022 TURTLE NESTING SEASON Did you know that it is turtle nesting season? There are more than 20 nests at Cowley Beach alone!! To give these beautiful babies the... best chance at life, please: Stay off vegetation to avoid trampling nests; Do not drive cars and quad bikes on our beaches; Keep nesting beaches dark and safe for sea turtles. Turn off, shield, or redirect lights visible from the beach. (Lights disorient hatchling sea turtles and discourage nesting females from coming onto the beach to lay their eggs); Do not disturb nesting turtles, nests, or hatchlings; Fill in holes and knock down sandcastles before you leave the beach. (They can become obstacles for nesting turtles or emerging hatchlings); and Remember that dogs must always be on a leash at any of our beaches. If you notice any turtle stranding, or other wildlife in distress, please call 1300 264 625.
