21.01.2022 Most people who visit Echo Farm, Mount Gambier also like to visit Engelbrecht Cave & Coffee Shop. It's only a 10 minute drive between the two attractions so please take note of the below post that you need to book your cave tour. Even though we have heaps of room once you are in the gate at Echo Farm, we also like you to book to help us distance our visitor's arrivals, but don't mind if you are running a little late from finishing a cave tour. A great way to spend time above and below the ground!

20.01.2022 The goats at Echo Farm, Mount Gambier have a trampoline. Visitors often ask if they jump and down on it. Well we haven't caught them at it yet, and you know we won't have our cameras on us it they do as we never seem to be equipped when funny things happen on the Farm. Or we are enjoying it too much to think about capturing it!... In the meantime the goats love sitting on the trampoline during winter on a sunny day as the black cloth is warm. They use it to shelter under if it's raining or for shade if it is hot. Photos are of Dudley (the dark coloured goat) and Houdini. Visit www.echofarm.com.au for opening times and booking details.

17.01.2022 Sometimes it's the little things that make your day special. Visitors love being guided around Echo Farm by 'Rat Cat'. 15.01.2022 Look what I found this morning. More little chicks born today at Echo Farm with a very protective bantam Mumma! Most of our chickens and ducks are allowed to free range, which is why it is not surprising to find nests of baby chicks in all sorts of strange places!... We've had about 30 chicks hatched at the Farm over the past few weeks. We don't buy in baby chicks just so kids can play with them, which is why we don't consider ourselves more than just a petting zoo. We think the best place for any baby animal is with their Mum, and they are extremely protective as human parents are (as you can see by the video!) Visitors can still see the baby chicks or ducklings up close but we don't allow you to play with them like a toy. We think it's important to give visitors a farm experience and allow our animals as much space as possible while still allowing visitors to pat and feed them if the animal wants. Most of them do especially the donkeys, goats, cows, pigs, dog, rabbit and emu! #farmexperience #farmfun #mountgambier #echofarmmg #babychicks #justbornchicks #protectivemums #protectivechickens Port MacDonnell Community Complex Visit Limestone Coast Mount Gambier & District Tourism Operators Mount Gambier & Districts Events & News Page Discover Mount Gambier

15.01.2022 Echo Farm, Mount Gambier isn't just for girls or toddlers! The boys who visit love the open space; they can let off steam and run around the paddocks, enjoy the bigger, not so 'fluffy', animals and they revel in the idea that they can come back to the trough and grab arms-full of the oak leaf branches we provide for free to feed the animals. It's a full time job keeping the trough full of cut twigs, but it is also our way of making sure all our guests are kept amused as th...ey have plenty to feed the animals; it also keeps little (and big) fingers safe and means families don't have to shell out more money once they pay their entrance fee - unless they want to of course! Echo Farm, Mount Gambier is open 10am to 3pm weekends, public holidays as well as Monday and Friday during school holidays. 14.01.2022 When I ask our Echo Farm, Mount Gambier guests which animal they like the most.... the answer often comes back as Carl. We're really lucky to have found Carl, he has the best temperament. 12.01.2022 Visitors to Echo Farm, Mount Gambier would have seen our little red tractor and lots of littlies have to be coerced off of it by their parents or they would sit there all day. 12.01.2022 Meet Heather. She is our mature age volunteer, or apprentice as she likes to be called. (I think I can safely call her mature age when she's about to turn 81). She spends most of her time cutting up branches of leaves to provide visitors food to feed the animals when they visit Echo Farm Mount Gambier. The pigs, sheep, cows, donkeys and particuarly the goats love them, and kids love being able to run and get more whenever they like, so Heather is kept very busy! 04.01.2022 We've had a young cat visit Echo Farm, Mount Gambier over the past month or so. We couldn't get near her when she first started visiting and seemed to be living in the shed so we thought she may have been a stray, unloved and dumped or just visiting every now and then from a neighbouring property, but she's making herself more and more at home and becoming more and more friendly. As you can see by the photo she is being given lots of love by visiting children, and we're ha...ppy to keep her and look after her properly but we're worried someone else might be missing her. 03.01.2022 Isn't nature amazing? Echo Farm, Mount Gambier is all about taking a step back in time, interacting with the animals and reconnecting with nature. Bruce and I were taking a break, sitting at the back of the cottage a while back when we noticed a few bees above the roof and within a few minutes they were swarming. As we watched they moved over the roof to one of our apple trees and formed a swarm there. It was amazing to see how quickly they built their swarm.... While we know how important these little creatures are to the ecosystem, we also need to keep our visitors safe. Luckily we know a bee keeper who was able to come out straight away and collect the swarm. Bees perform pollination, which is vital to the survival of agriculture. One third of our global food supply is pollinated by bees; they keep plants and crops alive. Mild winters, overcrowding and the presence of the old queen all predispose a bee colony to swarm. Swarming is part of the yearly life cycle of a bee. During the winter, the queen bee lays eggs and the population of the colony grows, causing congestion in the nest. Honey bee swarms are not highly dangerous under most circumstances. Swarming honey bees feed prior to swarming, reducing their ability to sting. Bees away from the vicinity of their nest (offspring and food stores) are less defensive and are unlikely to sting unless provoked. Native bees pollinate native plants, many of which can't be pollinated by introduced bees and we have lots of native plants on at Echo Farm. Some flowers need vibration to release pollen, which many of our native bees can do. This is called 'buzz pollination'. Native bees can even pollinate some introduced plant species.

01.01.2022 I had a visit from Harry the Peacock this morning. He's just found our new house at Echo Farm. Harry and our other peacock used to sit on the roof of our bedroom in the old cottage and wake us up about 4am every morning with their horrible screams. I hope Harry doesn't decide he likes our new roof better!
