22.01.2022 BEREAVEMENT WALKING GROUP RECOMMENCES - WEDNESDAY 28 OCTOBER 10am The bereavement walking group is an initiative of the ERH Community Palliative Care Service and forms part of the follow-up of those partners/carers grieving the loss of a loved one. The group meets on the Fourth Wednesday of each month at 10am for a 30-40 minute walk, followed by morning tea in the Education Centre with members of the team. Due to COVID-19, the monthly walk has been on hold, but will be back ...from this week and we hope people join us in a COVID safe way, to enjoy the connection with others in the community going through similar experiences. The meeting point is outside the ERH Education Centre on Leichardt St and is open to both males & females who would like to meet with others who have lost a loved one. Please feel free to call Palliative Care on 5485 5231/5485 5230 for more details or just come along. Grief can be a very lonely & isolating experience, especially when you have been actively caring for a loved one throughout a long illness and more recently, with the challenges of COVID-19. It is comforting to know that there are others who understand and care. Please share this with anyone you feel may benefit. Image: This is a photo of the walking group enjoying their walk in 2018.

21.01.2022 5 MINUTES WITH ALLIED HEALTH ASSISTANT ANGE What is your role at ERH and how do you support the Echuca Moama and surrounding community? I work as an Allied health assistant at ERH. My week is spread across both Physiotherapy department and NDIS services. My role is to assist the therapists, whether that be to complete therapeutic programs with patients accessing our services or to offload their work load to allow them to see more patients. I’m part of two amazing multidiscipl...inary teams which are filled with Physiotherapists, Occupational therapist, Speech Pathologists, Dietitians, Podiatrists and Nursing staff. One of the best decisions I’ve made this year has been to apply to work within NDIS, I have learnt so much from my manager and all those that are involved in the service. NDIS services at ERH are forever growing and changing and I am loving that challenge in my role. I feel that we are always looking at ways to improve the quality of our service, how we deliver it and how to make our service more accessible to those not only in the Echuca/Moama community but those surrounding that may not have NDIS providers nearby. What is something about your role that people wouldn’t know is part of the role? Over the last few months a couple of the Allied Health Assistants have undergone training to be able to assist with our Fracture clinic program run by Physiotherapists and Dr. Benny Zhang. We now are able to assist with cast removals to free up the Physio’s time while the group runs so more patients can be seen. How has COVID-19 impacted on your day to day work? COVID has definitely made it difficult to see patients like we were at the beginning of the year, also the way we deliver therapy to those patients. The telehealth platform has made us really think about how to deliver the best service without being with the patient. All the clinicians have been great at providing education around how to best utilise the time we have with the patients and also how to get their families and supports more involved. With all the necessary precautions we now have to take, it has added a lot more steps onto most tasks that we do, whether that be PPE, screening or cleaning. What do you love most about your role? I love the variety of my role, whether that be the variety of staff and disciplines I work with or the diverse range of patients I see day to day. I find it very rewarding to see how the therapeutic programs that are implemented in a hospital setting are carried over in the patients’ home or in community environments.

14.01.2022 This week, led by the ERH Healthcare that Counts Committee, ERH has been raising awareness for the Polished Man campaign to help end violence against children. A painted nail (on a clean sanitised hand) creates a conversation and our staff have embraced this campaign by getting involved and acknowledging and raising awareness around the facts about violence against children. The facts are, that one billion children have experienced violence in the last year alone - that's h...alf the world's children. In Australia, one in six women and one in ten men report having been physically or sexually abused as a child. The Polished Man campaign aims to raise funds and awareness to ensure no childhood is lost to violence. Together, we can create these conversations and focus on prevention and trauma recovery, to end this issue. So far, the campaign has raised over $680,000 to support various prevention and trauma recovery programs across the globe. Whilst we know painting a nail doesn't end violence against children, it could be the thing that encourages someone who is experiencing violence or even a survivor to feel comfortable opening up about their story and to seek help. To find out more about this wonderful initiative, visit https://polishedman.com/ Should you wish to speak with a member of our Wellbeing and Primary Mental Health Department, please call 5485 5800.

09.01.2022 Important Update - COVID19 Testing A big thank you to our community for turning up and getting tested during the latest outbreak. We know that one of the most important things we can do to stop the spread of this terrible virus is to get tested so we can pick up any community transmission early. We have extended the hours of our COVID testing clinic over the New Year period in response to the number of people coming forward to be tested and we will be reviewing our operating ...hours each day. We know that many people queued for lengthy periods of time at the testing clinic and we sincerely thank them for their patience. Unfortunately, we have experienced a delay in receiving results for people tested in our clinic. With the huge number of people tested across Victoria over the past few days, our pathology providers have been overwhelmed and this has led to a delay in receiving results. We want to assure everyone that their tests are being processed and they will receive their results as soon as they are available. Currently, there is likely to be a delay of 48 hours for most people tested and this may be a little longer for those people tested on Friday 1 January 2021. Thank you again for your patience at this difficult time. Regards, ERH See more

08.01.2022 Do you have a loved one in hospital? We ask that where possible some belongings like comfy clothes, sturdy shoes, glasses and walking stick or frame, be brought in. It could make all the difference in recovering and getting home sooner! End PJ Paralysis is a global initiative starting in the UK, encouraging patients to get up, dressed and moving, to reduce the risk of deconditioning while in hospital. Echuca Regional Health has joined the campaign. With the overall aim to em...power patients to become active in their healthcare journey and recovery. The initiative found that patients who stayed in bed for prolonged periods were at risk of: getting an infection, losing mobility and strength, having a fall and ultimately staying in hospital longer. Echuca Regional Health is encouraging patients to get dressed in day clothes, sit out for their meals and do gentle exercise throughout the day, where possible. If your loved one is over 80 years: 10 days in bed can age muscles by 10 years 1 week of bed rest can result in 10% muscle loss Remember the muscle loss is not just in your arms and legs, it also effects your heart and lungs. So lets end PJ Paralysis together! See more
