24.01.2022 Self help for Adaptation In this life, one of the things I have realised is that it is easier to survive with a flexible attitude and the ability to adapt to an...y situation Each day there seems to be another challenge for us as humans as we move further away from natural living I have always encouraged people to abandon the cities and live a more simple life in a rural area. Sure you cant make as much money but you wont need it out there. The cities are like black holes that suck up your life, your money, your time and your health If you havent noticed there are also lots of 5G towers going up all over town and suburbs so the latest fear is the increase in radiation we may be exposed to All is not lost though. Removing yourself from the city can take time, but luckily as with all things in life we have our plant and herbal allies in time of need, and people, do we need them now. Food and herbs can help protect your continued wellness. Thats the good news! So here we go...... I think the key to the healing power of all plants is in their mineral content. The best description of minerals I have found is the quote below and shows how important minerals are for our health. Minerals are frequencies of light, frequencies of information and frequencies of creation for the material world, in the universe in which we live. The Earth is made up of minerals. Our body is made up of minerals. Minerals activate all the catalysts for enzymatic reactions in the body. They activate the vitamins. They activate all the organ structures and are the basis of all the organ and cellular structures of the body. Minerals are the builders of the system. The body is composed entirely of minerals and water. The water molecule is the one that acts as the powerful solvent within the human system, bringing in nutrients and washing out waste particles Without the essential minerals and trace minerals we would not survive. Spiritual Nutrition. Gabriel Cousens MD Seaweeds are what first come to mind as they are very high in mineral content. These minerals are valuable protection against radiation and by consuming the natural iodine, found in the seaweeds, will help to prevent the uptake of radiation from the environment. Chlorella is one of the most widely studied of the algaes and has been described as having the highest chlorophyll content in plants. Studies done on animals have found that a chlorophyll rich diet increases the survival of experimental animals after lethal doses of radiation. Always be sure your source of sea vegetables is not contaminated and is from a reputable source. Next we come to the vegetables. Brassica vegetables and high beta-carotene vegetables protect your cells from the damaging effects of radiation Brassica vegetables include broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, swedes, turnips, broccoli raab, collards, cress, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, and bok choi Beta-carotene can be found in concentrated amounts in foods such as sweet potatoes, carrots, kale, spinach, pumpkin, turnip greens, collard greens, coriander, fresh thyme, rock melon, romaine lettuce and broccoli. Beans and lentils have high nucleotide concentrations. Nucleotides are the building blocks that make up RNA and DNA and carry out several critical functions needed for cell replication. Nucleotides also neutralise toxins in your body by increasing cellular metabolism, improving the efficiency of your immune system, enhancing the effects of antioxidants and increasing bodys ability to heal and repair. Other foods high in nucleotides include spirulina, chlorella, algae, yeast, sardines, liver, anchovies and mackerel. Many studies demontrate that the fatty acids found in cod liver oil and olive oil, fully protected rats against increasing doses of damaging X-ray irradiation. Other research has shown that mice exposed to large doses of radiation survived 50-100% longer than normal if fed cod liver oil. The Selenium found in Brazil Nuts, Sunflower Seeds, Fish (such as Halibut and Salmon) , Eggs, Mushrooms (button, crimini, shiitake), Grains (wheat germ, barley, brown rice, oats) and Onions help protect DNA from radiation damage. Sulphur containing foods such as fish, eggs, beans and peas, brussel sprouts onion, cabbage, garlic and wheat germ have been found to protect the body against radiation as have high pectin foods like carrots, sunflower seeds and apples. Of course the avoidance of refined, highly processed sugars and flours will be of benefit as these foods actually lower your immune system Medicinal Mushrooms (a primary group providing -glucans) are notable for their ability to balance and improve the immune system and mitigate the effects of radiation, heavy metals, and pathogens. These include, reishi, shiitake, chaga, cordyceps, maitake, and oyster, to name a few. All medicinal mushrooms boost the immune system before and after radiation exposure. And now we come to my favourite part the Radio-protective Herbs These are herbs that are rich sources of chlorophyll and minerals, support detoxification and elimination, and support the thyroid gland or neutralize free radicals. All important attributes for helping us avoid the damaging effects of radiation. Nettles & Alfalfa have the highest concentration of land plant chlorophyll and are an excellent source of selenium Alfalfa is a very good source of chlorophyll and are both rich in a broad number of minerals. Chickweed is a powerhouse of nutrition and the saponins present in Chickweed increase the permeability of mucous membranes, increasing the absorption of nutrients whilst soothing the digestive tract. It functions both as a mild laxative and a diuretic, helping the body to rid itself of toxins through the kidneys and the bowels. It also promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in your bowel. Gingko Biloba is a herb which has a history of being radio-protective. Green Tea Extract, Grape Seed extract can help with both heavy metal detoxification and free radical neutralization. Turmeric which contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Ashwaganda can help to support your thyroid and adrenal glands. Ginseng can decrease side effects of radiation exposure as well as helping the body adapt to stress to aid in recovery. Siberian Ginseng can help protect against the side effects of radiation exposure and contains selenium. Astragalus supports thyroid functioning. Asparagus is a good source of glutathione, known to assist in the reduction of heavy metals and other toxins from the body, including radiation. Red Clover studies have shown its anti-radiation and anti-cancer properties Bitter herbs activate the production of bile fluids in the liver. Bile is the collector of heavy metals, radiation, chemicals, viruses, bacteria, parasites, and yeast which can then safely sent down the intestinal tract with the bile and out of the body. One of my favourite bitter herbs is Dandelion and the home herbalist can easily make medicine from this generous weed. Burdock root (Arctium lappa) helps to neutralize and remove toxins from the body. Dandelion root, leaves and flowers (Taraxacum officinale) improves the function of our bodys organs elimination process and is a blessed support for your liver Green and black tea leaves (Camellia sinensis) are antioxidant, immune stimulant, and contain radioprotective agents. Milk thistle seed (Silybum marianum) helps protect the body from chemical exposure, environmental illness and liver damage. This is an easy plant to grow and collect fresh seeds from. Red clover blossom (Trifolium pratense) improves health in general, helping all the organs of elimination function more optimally. Yellow dock (Rumex crispus) improves the function of the kidneys, liver, lymphatic system, intestines and skin thus aiding the bodys natural cleansing process. Hyssop is one of Nature's most effective whole body detoxifiers. It works to by clearing heat, inflammation, and toxins from the tissues, organs, and glands of the body. These foods and herbs are nothing new and should be considered as a normal part of your diet to support healthy immune functioning, cell regeneration and gentle elimination on a regular basis. We have the wonderful ability of adaptation and I believe the plants that have evolved with us over time are here for us as allies in our efforts to adapt to this changing world. Mother Nature provides so that we can practice self help

19.01.2022 If you want to eat the rainbow, youve got to plant the rainbow. When you look at this purple cauliflower, you might think its purple colour is strange - is it... mould? Is it GMO? Well in fact, this purple cauliflower is more traditional than you might think. Much of the food we purchase off the shelf has been grown for aesthetic - the preconceived notion that vegetables should be a certain colour. But in reality, were missing out on some of the goodness found in the parts of the vegetables that give them their colours - like the anthocyanin in this purple cauliflower (the same antioxidants as you get from red wine!). When you grow your own veggies, you have much more control over the variety of fruits and vegetables and their colours, by selecting heirloom varieties than you would visiting your local grocerystore. What heirloom varieties are you growing in your garden?

19.01.2022 Building grow tunnels for organic fruit and vegetables. Happy soil ,happy plants, happy people, happy earth!!!!

02.01.2022 Productive and Landscaped

01.01.2022 Every Thursday the Echo Valley yield stream bus does a run to Brisbane to rescue food waste and other goodies from land fill and this week was no exception, t...hese goodies come home to the farm to feed stock, be turned into compost and help heal our landscape. The nutrient and energy of these products are just too valuable to be put into landfill. This week we got a heads up about some certified organic veggies that were destined for the trash compactor (thanks for the call Rob) we jumped on the info and headed in to see what we had saved, it was a mind boggling amount around 3-4ton of certified organic celery, cucumbers, and lettuce. These veggies had been transported across the country from as far away as South Australia to meet the brief boom in demand as the virus took hold and then, the boom stopped the orders stopped but fresh food doesnt hold folks if its not moved quickly it starts to go off. Being so far from home the farmer cant take it back, which would enable him to return this nutrient to the soil. So usually this stuff just ends up in the bin. We did the sums on this load and it would likely have a retail value of 25-35k. Crazy right? And guess what else, more than likely it will be the farmer who wears this cost. Dont get me wrong we are grateful for the feed for our animals but this is an example of a broken system. This is a perfect example of the reality that for every hand that touches food between the farmer and the eater, waste is generated. Organic certified doesnt make it sustainable if the food system is broken. Local, regenerative, scale appropriate, relationship based farmer/foodie food economies is the only way to minimise waste. On a side note our #brangus heifers loved the celery#freerange #knowyourfarmerknowyourfood #local #eatlocalgrown #findafarmer #regenerativeagriculture See more
