16.01.2022 The value of the local community and sporting clubs cannot be underestimated during the fires that burned around Bega Valley in early January, Eden townspeople used their local knowledge and networks to support each other and first responders in the threatening situation that was unfolding. In the aftermath of the searing fires that torched many of us personally, people are still wrestling with the notion of how we can help. Eden Whalers AFL Club on their annual presentation ...night is one of the local sporting clubs just want to say thank you to the first responders and presented to us a framed Eden Whalers club shirt. On behalf of 286 Eden members I would like to say thank you, which was a wonderful gesture. No other year in recent history has tested us as a community quite like 2020. This year of fires, floods and Covid-19, each individual service has their own set of skills and when we have those large incidents, we really rely on the skill set that our other services possess to get the job done. Favourite part of the job is going out to help people with whatever is needed and helping the local community, we all work together as a team and overcome any challenges we encounter. Take care Stay safe.

16.01.2022 FRNSW members will have the option to use more protective P3 face masks, instead of P2 masks, during emergencies like bushfires. Following a successful trial, FRNSW will give all firefighters the option to use P3 'combi filter' masks which offer a higher level of respiratory protection. Given some of the gases contained within bushfire smoke, the protection afforded by the new P3 masks is deemed to provide a significantly higher level of protection than the existing P2 masks. Take care Stay safe.

11.01.2022 This morning rescue crews from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 020 Hurstville responded to reports of a small dog with its leg stuck in a laundry drain in South Car...ingbah. They arrived to find 'Moet' a maltese cross had her leg wedged inside the drain in the family’s large laundry tub. Firefighters assessed the situation and removed the entire sink to gain access to the underside of the tub, where they used specialist equipment to quickly but delicately cut the drain around her back leg to free the trapped dog. 'Moet' was handed back to her thankful owners with minor injuries.

10.01.2022 With so many people working from home due to COVID-19, we need to do everything we can to mitigate that risk. If there is a fire in your home, working smoke alarms will alert you to the fire so you can get out safely. If you don’t have a working smoke alarm, you’re more likely to be injured, or die.... Take care stay safe.

10.01.2022 The annual Fitness Drill is back up and running - providing our operationally deployable staff with a tool to help them remain fit, healthy and prepared for any...thing. The Fitness Drill provides a protocol to self-benchmark their fitness. It enables them to assess their current fitness level and take ownership of maintaining their fitness by understanding physical capability as it relates to their role as a firefighter. This is a mandatory drill to be completed each calendar year. Here we see our Fire Safety staff taking their Fitness seriously and completing their drill- well done team! See more
