25.01.2022 So youre on a road trip, you dont have prepped food and youre hungry. Your family decides to stop at fast food burger joint. How do you eat there and not make poor choices? 1. First off, dont label the food good or bad. As soon as you demonize a food it instantly becomes more appealing to your craving centre. 2. Think of your decision as a choice that brings you closer or takes you further away from your desired outcome. 3. The best choice for body composition change i...s always going to be - make a salad. Salads can be comprised of hot veggies or crispy cold ones. Add in a little protein and some healthy fats and youre likely eating a meal that nutritious and satisfying. We stopped at a certain store that has Golden Arches on road trip and whilst my hubby had a double Big Mac meal, my daughter had a grilled chicken happy meal, I had a burger salad no chips or soda. Basically I asked for extra salad stuff, no mayo or tomato sauce, extra mustard and the burger patty and cheese. No bun, fries or soda. Just the salad and water. It was a satisfying meal in a pinch, kept me on track and lasted me a good 3 hrs before I started feeling hungry again. If you just try and construct salads when youre eating or find yourself unprepared youll be able to put something together that doesnt derail your week. That all being said, sometimes its completely fine to just enjoy am burger. 23.01.2022 Fifty to the power of 3! 3 exercises 50 reps of each 2-3 rounds over 25 minutes. It will depend on the weight you use for it as to how many rounds you can complete. Ive used an 8 kg kettlebell as a all rounder weight and completed 2 full rounds at the 23 minutes mark. I love this work out so simple yet so effective! 23.01.2022 Real time work out click. One complete round took just over 2 minutes. The objective? 22 minutes AMRAP with a moderately heavy Kb weight. I often use between an 8 - 12 kg bell for these blaster sessions. I judge the weight used by what I can perform 5 reps of shoulder press on. Whilst I can use a 10 or 12 I would also fatigue really fast. So go with an 8kg aiming to complete 6 or more rounds. ... You have knee pain? No problem. You can see I personally removed the deep squat from the squat hold as the knees couldn’t tolerate it, but you can also do a wall sit for the extra support or just omit completely and focus on the curl. I can perform up to 4-5 squats of the thruster before my knee gives out so at the point I modify to a push press. 22.01.2022 The law of 5 workouts. 5 reps on 4 exercises. 2 that require both sides working simultaneously and 2 that require alt left and right. 5 rounds in 25 minutes maximum. Ideally you want to go moderately heavy to heavy given the low rep range, however if your working out at home using very light weights go for 5 rounds x 2 (its mentally easier to wrap your head around 2 x 5 instead of 10 rounds ) Its a pretty easy but effective formula I use with myself and my clients, so g...ive this workout a go. This is a push/pull workout. For this video I am using a 10 kg dead ball and 7 kg DB weights, you can see I demonstrate the DB alternative to the ball. 22.01.2022 Dedication to your goals and drive to stay healthy is imperative to maintaining focus during these uncertain times. You can do it! Take Tony, he is 67 and works full time. He still carves out time 2 x a week to do strength training. And goes for walks with his wife. Hes aware that its important for his health and immune system to keep on doing his routine even if its from home. We consulted over the base essential equipment he could use at home to keep getting results and... maintain what hes achieved and he gets it done, now his wife is also training 1-2 times a week pending her work schedule. I am so proud of them and my other clients that have refused to quit and become un motivated because of the changes to our training formats. 21.01.2022 Why meal prep? I dont like eating food thats a week old! Its too time consuming Meal prep does not have to be a week of food at a time. Meal prep can be as short as two days at a time. Meal prep should be what works for you and your lifestyle. When I first got into fitness and the fitness industry it was often touted by my mentors or coaches that meal prep gets done once a week. As someone new to this concept and wanting to create the best environment for success I... liked this way of controlling my food and removing the temptation for quick and easy solutions. Now fast forward 7 years and what I have discovered is how to make this plan and prep concept suit me and my family. 1 - I hate eating food thats 5 days old. It lacks the flavor and freshness of food prepared right before you eat it. 2 - my husband prefers fresh too, my daughter doesnt really care because her primary diet is fruit and veg. 3 - what works for us lies in the middle. 4 - if I dont prep I will fall off track with my food and resort to convienant foods (not necessarily unhealthy but too many starch things like gluten free crackers) I do 3 days of prep at a time meaning I prep 2 x a week and cook fresh on saturdays. Sunday and Wednesday I prep and Saturday we do fun fresh family meals where my daughter cooks with me. I prep one special meal just for hubby full of the stuff I dont eat but he loves and everything else is what I call family adaptable. Base line veg and protein choices with carb sources suitable to the individual. For us this works. Find what works for you and keeps you on track and do it. Plan and prepping is essential when you have goals and are time poor with work and family life, or stuck in lockdowns meaning you cant keep going out daily to get food. My toast is an almond flour 2 min microwave muffin lightly toasted and topped with sunny side up eggs, mozzarella, coriander and seasoned with salt and pepper. It was lovely seeing Terry back in studio for 1:1 pt, knowing that his at home lockdown program has helped him maintain his strength, mobility and muscle mass made the transition back to heavier lifts smooth. The weekly park session went online as my little girl has been fighting off a cold and I developed mild symptoms. Knowing how important it is to minimize the spread of germs I took it back to online for the night to be safe. It’s great that the online part is now permanent. 16.01.2022 Another Metcon for free! Who doesnt love a free workout?? I know I do! Bare in mind my knees both are in total agony (I am waiting to get an MRI) so I have had to modify either by way of Load being less or stepping back into the burpee. This workout is designed to be done with moderate heavy load, think 30 - 50 % of your body weight but of course work with what you have or are capable of doing. You will do 20 minutes of an upchain from 1 and aim to get out the maximum amou...nt of rounds and reps you can! Im using 10 kg on a pump bar and a 6 kg slam ball (Im on round 3 in the video) but my normal weight use with out buggeres knees is a 30kg bar and 15 kg slam ball. Again work with your limits! Metcon mania! 12.01.2022 My amazing little girl! A few days ago she says mum can we go do kid yoga before bed tonight? Delighted that she asked I of course said yes! We head down the Gym and she see’s my kettle bells set up from the previous nights workout. She runs straight over and starts deadlifting the 8kg for 4 or 5 reps then moves on attempting to deadlift the rest. So I ask her if she will try again and I can film her. She obliged and I tried to coach her (being 5 of course she likes to d...o it her own way but of course there are safety issues with deads). She’s only 5, and can now deadlift over half her body weight, getting a 1RM on 12 kg with a body weight of 22kg. Can you say pride? 10.01.2022 One of my biggest issues with fibromyalgia is sensory issues with fabric and how they feel on my skin. I cant wear compression gear, underwire bras or basically anything that is too tight on my tender points. Being that Im not a tracksuit pants (sweat pants) kinda girl I often have to try multiple brands of leggings that feel good on instead of making me want to rip them off after 5 minutes. I came across @fkngymwear in the summer when I purchased a pair of shorts so I w...as fairly sure if I got full length leggings they would be just as good. I was right. The fabric is silky smooth, they dont hurt with lots of compression and they are squat proof. Plus pockets! They tick all the boxes for me and my overly sensitive body. 06.01.2022 Happy new year people! I trust we’ve all enjoyed a well deserved break and are ready to crush it again! It’s 1RM and fitness testing week at the studio, assessing where everyone is at the start of the year to measure progress and help with accurate, personalized programming. Wether you’ve followed me for a long time or are new, you may have seen this lovely lady grace my news feed. ... Dani (@divine_dog_grooming) is a truly amazing woman. This woman has been consistently training for 5 years. For that entire time she’s been trying to live with an, at times, crippling pain condition. A type of abdominal neuropathic pain, that after countless investigations no Doctor has been able to find a way to manage, accurately diagnose or treat/eradicate. I’ve personally seen her at her best and worst, and the thing that amazes me about her is her sheer determination to not give up on herself. To work with me and find ways to keep moving and functioning day to day. It’s truly inspiring to watch her fight through her pain to try and achieve what ever she can. 2 years ago her pain intensified significantly and has remained at high levels daily since. Her last PR on a 1RM was 87.5kg in 2018. Since then she hasn’t lifted heavy, most deads have been performed with kettlebells, dumbells or even a modified TRX version. A few times on a good day we’ve used the short 5 foot 11 kg Olympic bar and maybe gone up to about 25-30 kg. It’s amazing how just focusing on form, function and movement has maintained the majority of her strength and muscle. With only a 15 kg drop on her max lift, I’m so unbelievably proud of her for always forging forward with a what CAN I do? Attitude instead of saying I can’t.
