17.01.2022 Today is Close the Gap day. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the need for coordinated targeted strategies to close the health and life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and the non-Indigenous communities in Australia. This years Closing the Gap Report highlights the existing disparity, with only 2 of the 7 targets on track. The tragic events in QLD last week where 4 Indigenous people took their own lives is a timely reminder of the need for Aboriginal led solutions and a coordinated formal partnership between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and government. 16.01.2022 SaPa, Vietnam is home to a number of Indigenous minority groups. Their lifestyle has been centred around farming, rice in particular. In recent years the region has become a popular tourist destination due to its natural beauty and the incredible people. Many women here weren’t able to finish school due to family commitments, yet have taught themselves English by speaking to tourists and have taken advantage of the boom by becoming talented tour guides. The added income and decreased dependency on subsistence farming means their children can stay in school. #strongwomen #sapa #education #employment #opportunity #school #girlseducation #family @ Sapa Vietnam

05.01.2022 Let’s transform human potential! For every $1 spent on early childhood #development the ROI is up to $13. Not only does it make financial sense, it makes human sense! #investing in #earlychildhood means children survive and #thrive More than 4/10 children under 5 in low-middle income countries are at risk of missing critical development milestones (WHO, 2018) and estimates for growth faltering in remote Aboriginal Communities in Australia are over 40% (NCBI, 2013). Stun...ting and growth faltering can prevent a child (and society) from reaching their full potential. The driver for this isn’t just poverty. The period from pregnancy to age 3 is most critical and children need a safe, secure and loving environment, with the right nutrition and stimulation. This period can lay a foundation of health and wellbeing benefits that can last a lifetime, and carry into the next generation.
