22.01.2022 Can anyone help us and tell us what type of caterpillars these are? They form big clumps on the eucalyptus and eat all the new growth on the trees
21.01.2022 We know you don't want to see more tomato photos (but yes we're still picking about 5kg every 2nd day) so... we thought you'd like to see our 1st Chinese cabbage. So heavy!
20.01.2022 7 years ago today, Sweetpea, our first house cow, arrived on the farm with her unnamed calf who we named Paprikas so I wouldn't forget he was not a pet. Hmm, not so easy for me. Sweetpea was always a placid dream to milk and would stand patiently for anyone to milk her. Sweetpea is still with us but she's a pet now as she was much older than us novices were told and we couldn't get her into calf again after multiple attempts both with a bull and AI. We now have Poppy and Honey both with calves and both providing great milk.
19.01.2022 Born today. A lovely little bull. Poppy's second calf and another easy birth for her. Les went to bring Honey in for milking and there they were.
17.01.2022 Tomato harvest, again it's courtesy of the pigs! We never have such success when we deliberately cultivate them. They are scrumptious and there are many many more ripening. We miss our pigs
16.01.2022 Yes, more tomato pictures, every few days This bounty and the volume seems to increase. They are absolutely perfect. I don't think we could grow them so well if we tried. Tomato sauce, passata and jam coming up. There are only so many we can eat raw.
15.01.2022 We love this life
15.01.2022 On a glorious day, without wind, a stroll (or should I say a roll?) through the front orchard
13.01.2022 Hope you can help!
13.01.2022 How lucky are we to have these gorgeous, loving girls. Thank you Nick for this photo!
13.01.2022 Who said mulberry harvesting can't be fun. My niece and I harvested mulberries ready for the next batch of jam.
11.01.2022 This morning's breakfast - home grown tomatoes(thank you pigs), home laid eggs and home made bread.
08.01.2022 Annette's sunflowers are providing a lovely sunny corner this winter. . . . .... . . #sunflower #sunflowers #wherrolflat #theedibleforest #flowers #farmlife #polarisingfilter #polarizingfilter #zeisslens See more
08.01.2022 I think this tiny Australian plant, hardenbergia, is exquisite. It is subtle and unobtrusive but enhances anything it grows on without becoming invasive or dominant. I've collected its tiny seed pods and am hoping to have it all around the garden.

06.01.2022 The first leeks harvested today after growing them using the toilet roll technique. It certainly works! The whites are more than twice the length we normally get. Dinner tonight, potato, cauliflower and sautéed leeks soup - all home grown
06.01.2022 Sadly no more markets for a while
06.01.2022 In March this year, a lovely friend of ours, Anna, asked us if we'd look after her cow, Georgie. Georgie was her only cow and Anna felt she needed company. On 31st March Georgie arrived to stay. She is a sweet, gentle little cow, a trifle tubby but Anna said she gave her lots of treats. Yesterday Les looked at her and thought the she was looking thin. She's the bottom of the pecking order here with our little herd so he was worried she might be missing out on the good feed b...ut... look what he found this morning Anna said it must have been an immaculate conception
05.01.2022 Looks like we'll have another good crop of our early nectarines and that prolific little mulberry has fruit almost ready to pick!
04.01.2022 Finally some rain! A torrential downpour, 4mm in 2 minutes and then a lovely steady rain. 26mm all up. A good start. Les took this video of one of our green tree frogs. A bit of a surprise after months living inside a dry downpipe! Love those sucker feet!
04.01.2022 If Alice ate a bit of this mushroom, rather than growing or shrinking, the caterpillar would have had to drag her off to whatever passed for a hospital in Wonderland to have her stomach pumped... While it would be nice if we had some actually edible mushrooms on this farm, we welcome all fungi here Chlorophyllum Molybdities (no common name) . .... . . . #mushrooms #mushroomsofinstagram #toadstool #fungi #fungiphotography #midnorthcoastnsw #nswmidnorthcoast #barringtoncoast #manningvalley #wherrolflat #theedibleforest #farminglife #aliceinwonderland #fungilove #fungiofinstagram #fantasticfungi See more
03.01.2022 Oh the trials of farming life. Our house cow, Honey, gave birth to her calf on Sunday but sadly he was dead on arrival. Yesterday we got a lovely poddy from a local dairy at The Bight. It was love at first sight.
03.01.2022 Thanks to our pigs' vigilant fertilising we found an abundance of volunteer rockmelon vines in one of their old yards. Today we ate the first ripe one - delicious!
02.01.2022 The morning after the rains. Dams are full to overflowing again, so in a week or two we can throw a tonne or so of bentonite in try to stop them leaking. Wish us luck... . . .... #dawn #morningmist #aftertherain #manningvalley #barringtoncoast #theedibleforest See more
