24.01.2022 This song by Sisters in Arms honours the contribution and spirit of Australias servicewomen in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. These women proudly wear their m...edals on the left, as do all current and former service personel. The After the War album, commissioned by the Australian War Memorial and produced by Garth Porter, commemorates and honours the men and women who are serving or have served our country during wartime and peace. Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice on 11 November 1918, marking the end of the Great War; the album spans from Gallipoli and Passchendaele, to the sinking of HMAS Canberra in 1942 in the waters off Savo Island, to the Battle of Long Tan in a rubber plantation in Vietnam, and the blurred and dusty battle lines of Afghanistan. After the War presents original tracks alongside well-known Australian classics - sung by a host of notable Australian artists, including Lee Kernaghan, John Schumann and Glenn Shorrock. 24.01.2022 For Remembrance Day. Laying a wreath today not only for the Anzac's of 1914-18, but for the Anzac's who passed through Edmonton as part of the BCATP on their way to europe during World War Two. Laying also for Anzac's killed in peace and war since 1945.

17.01.2022 On the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, we pay tribute to those who have donned the blue beret. This year marks the 20th anniversary of a landmark UN Secur...ity Council Resolution acknowledging the unique impact of war and conflict on women and girls, and the critical role of women in peacebuilding efforts. 01.01.2022 I had a request from Brent Marshall last night for a picture of his grandfather .As fortune would have it I did have an Otago Witness photo on my files .The pho...to is also on the website kiamatetoa , the 8th Southland company at Gallipoli . Valentine Payne Mawer 8/531 .Main Body ,8th Southland company . A labourer fron Winton ,next of kin was his mother ,Mrs Emily Mawer ,Winton . Valentine landed at Gallipoli just after 2.30 pm on the 25th of April 1915.He was with the Southland company ,and had the rank of Private .On the 24th of June at Monash Gully ,he was wounded in action .He suffered from a gun shot wound to his left arm ,but after three days in the field hospital was back with his unit. On the 27th of July ,Valentine was sent to the stationary hospital at Mudros ,suffering from gastro enteritis . Just over a week later he was back on the Peninsula .He was wounded for the second time ,during the August Offensive ,on the 12th of August 1915 .It was in the aftermath of the assault on Chunuk Bair and the Ottoman forces were on the counter-attack .He recieved shrapnel wounds to the left thigh . This time he was shipped off to the U.K ,with time spent at a Birmingham hospital and convalescence at Grey Towers in London . On recovery he was sent back to Egypt ,and less than a month later was in France ,in the Armentieres sector .In August he was sent to the casualty clearing station suffering from dermititis and scabies. He arrrived back with his unit on the 15th of September 1916 ,just in time for the battle of Flers Courcelette (The Somme) . Valentine was reported missing on the 1st of October during the continuing battles of the Somme ,but was found at a casualty clearing station the next day. This time he was suffering from a gun shot wound to the right arm . From the casualty clearing station he was shipped off to a Birmingham hospital again ,then later on to Walton in London .On recovery he was classified unfit for active service .He did rack up a impressive list of disciplinary problems in his last year of service however, including using obscene language ,drunkeness and resisting arrest (This sounds like a good night out in Winton !! ) Valentine embarked from Plymouth bound for New Zealand ,on the 27th of July 1917 ,on the S.S (Steam Ship) Arawa . He died at Winton on the 13th of February 1958 , with his next of kin being Mrs V.V Mawer .
