23.01.2022 EDPL PRE-SEASON PAIRS Hope everyone is doing ok?! Now that Covid restrictions are starting to ease, EDPL will be running a "Pairs" pool comp, as a pre-season to 2021 Winter.... Here’s the EDPL 2020-2021 PRE-SEASON PAIRS information document with all the details, & the Pairs Team Registration Form. No starting date confirmed yet, but most likely early-mid December, depending on interest/entries, & restrictions. This INFO & the REGO FORM are also on the EDPL Website, in "Documents+Forms" section, under EDPL Tournaments. Limited to 12 PAIRS per Division. Entries taken in order of Rego Form & Rego Fee lodgment (Rego Fees to accompany form, if paying EFT please use TEAM NAME as reference). Pairs/Team must include at least 1 email address on rego form, as playing fees invoices will be emailed to 1 or both players. Please ensure you have included your TEAM NAME on the top of the form (No offensive Team names will be accepted). Let's get back to playing some pool!!!

22.01.2022 The funeral service for Raymond Shorthouse will be on Tuesday the 24th of November, at 10am, at Tobin Brothers in Berwick. Due to restrictions at the moment they can only have 20 by invitation in attendance. However, they’re hoping that restrictions will ease this weekend and more of Ray’s friends can attend to share in celebrating his life. 22.01.2022 EDPL OFFICE CLOSED DURING COVID LOCKDOWN As per the latest covid lockdown restrictions, the EDPL office will be unattended until the restrictions are lifted (..hopefully by mid September). During this time, EDPL emails will still be monitored.... (but our office phone wont be answered or diverted, so please dont leave a phone message. Anything important, please email us at [email protected], or send a message to the EDPL Facebook page). Consequently there will be no retail sales during the lockdown. We are still working towards having some sort of EDPL pool competition as soon as were permitted to play again! Best wishes to everyone, take care and stay safe!

Because of the Covid-19 limit of 50 people at a funeral, the majority of people attending will be his family with the balance of 20 of his friends allowed strictly by invite only.... 17.01.2022 NEW TENANT IN DOWNSTAIRS OFFICE ! The new Tenant has taken over the lease of the downstairs office as of today! "WEISZ FAMILY OPTICAL" is currently fitting out downstairs, and preparing to move in shortly.... Tibor Weisz, the Optometrist, has been in a smaller building on the opposite side of Dorset Road for 48 years! He needed a bigger space, and is very happy with his new premises downstairs. This is a big achievement for EDPL, securing a long term tenant, after the downstairs office has been empty for a year, and it will certainly help the league moving forward. Thank you to all EDPL Execs and members who have assisted over the past few weeks, helping to move furniture, removing rubbish, as well as renovating & painting out in the front foyer area.

16.01.2022 ~ RIP - LANCE SHEEN ~ We are extremely sad to announce that Lance Sheen passed away thismorning After a very long courageous battle with many health issues over the past few years.... Lance Sheen - EDPL rego# 1 ! Founding member of our league! Much loved, admired, & respected. Our deepest sympathy & love go to Lances wife Lauri xx & all Lances family & friends x (..too much to say about Lance in this announcement, I will do a more thorough post tomorrow. 16.01.2022 CLUB PRESIDENTS MEETING We will be having a Club Presidents Meeting on Monday 22nd June 2020, 7:00pm at the EDPL office (Pending Restrictions). Presidents Meeting Agenda, & Minutes of the last Presidents Meeting (23rd March) have been emailed to all Clubs committees.... The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss where we are at the current time, plans for a new season, financial report, Sub-Committee reports/updates and general business. If you have any matters you wish brought up, please contact your Club President to have them tabled. If your Clubs President is unable to attend, please ensure a committee member attends instead, to represent your club. Seating will be spaced out in the EDPL office meeting area, and hand-sanitizer provided, with current social distancing practices being adhered to.

We regret to announce that the Club Presidents meeting scheduled for tomorrow night, Monday 22nd June, has been postponed until further notice, due to some Covid-19 restrictions being re-instated. 14.01.2022 We have been notified that the DDPL have cancelled their winter season. The EDPL has an obligation to provide competition to its members, including premier division. There is an EDPL club Presidents meeting being held this coming Monday night to offer up some different scenarios (subject to restrictions) By all accounts, the majority of members are keen to get back to "normal" by way of playing comp again. Your club Presidents will be coming back to you to gauge numbers wanting to proceed. Only when all clubs have responded back to the EDPL, will we be making any further announcements.

14.01.2022 We are calling on members who wish to be part of our sub-committees and tribunal. First preference will be given to those who have served in the past, on the sub-committee of preference. Minimum of 5 members per sub-committee.... Please email the office no later than 18th June, 2020 then sub-committee members will be contacted on the 23rd June. Sub- Committees as follows: Hall Of Fame/Life Membership Points, Rankings and Formats 5 year plan/Building Tournaments/Events Tribunal Panel Scope for each sub-committee are being reworked and will be published when completed, prior to expressions of interest close. We look forward to hearing back from interested members.

14.01.2022 Proposed changes from World Rules to Supreme Rules. We have asked all clubs to survey members regarding the proposed changes. We have informed Pool Victoria that the EDPL does not support any changes to the game we play.

14.01.2022 It is with much sadness we say goodbye to Howard "Howie" Smith, who lost a long battle with illness. R.I.P. Howie.. the pool fraternity have lost a good bloke. Howard Smith, EDPL rego # 4421, started playing EDPL in 1993 with Stamford Hotel, playing 641 Winter Season games, and 206 Summer Season Games, all with "The Stammas". Howard received his 500 Game Jacket in 2013.... Howie won the following EDPL League Trophies... * 1993 Winter - 4th Div - 3rd Best Player * 2004 Winter - 2nd Div - Best Doubles Pair (with Neil Nicoll) * 2018-19 Summer - 4th Div - 2nd Best Player Our thoughts and condolences go out to Howards family and friends, and all this club mates at the Stamford Hotel, from all at EDPL

11.01.2022 AMENDED 2020 EDPL Meeting Dates. The EDPL meeting that was scheduled for 17th August will need to be POSTPONED, due to current covid-19 restrictions. At this stage we have rescheduled that Club Presidents Meeting for the week after, so Monday 24th August instead, pending restrictions.... We will notify clubs closer to that date, if the meeting needs to be postponed further, or cancelled. (social distancing will be adhered to).

11.01.2022 Email received from pool Victoria regarding proposed changes from World Rules to Supreme Rules. Copy of rules and proposal are on the website news page. Dear League Committees,... We have attached a copy of the WEPF proposed change to Supreme Rules for the World Championships and also some pros and cons to the changes. At this stage the World Body is proposing that Supreme Rules be played only on the World stage at an International level. The WEPFs vision is to eventually have everyone playing with one set of rules that will help with development of the game in China and the USA and including them in our World Championships. This proposal will be voted on in August so we would like to know all our Affiliate Leagues opinions so we can give the AEBF our vote on behalf of our members. If these rules do come in, you DO NOT have to use them, if your League wants to continue playing World Rules thats fine. It would just mean that if the Supreme Rules will be played at the 2021 Australian Championships in October then we would need to be playing these rules at all 2021 State Title Events. If the Supreme Rules are voted for we will hold rule clinics for interested players and Leagues. We would love to have a response by the 31st July from your League on which way you would like us to vote at the meeting with the AEBF in August. 10.01.2022 Venues with 2 pool tables, earlier starts advised Just a reminder that Croydon Hotel (for 3rd Div) & Mitcham Hotel (for 4th Div) only have 2 pool tables, so matches played at these 2 venues need to start as early as possible from 7pm onwards, so as not to run too late. 09.01.2022 ~ R.I.P - Marilyn Perin ~ We are saddened to hear yesterday that Marilyn Perin passed away. EDPL Rego # 4226... Marilyn played 291 EDPL Winter games, & 118 Summer games, and was very much loved at her old Pool Club, Templestowe Hotel. Our thoughts and condolences go to Marilyns family, & friends, and previous team-mates from The Tempy xx (this photo was from many years ago, when The Tempy won the 4th Div Premiership, just a few days after Marilyns husband Peter Perin passed away. What a proud moment for Marilyn, who is surrounded by her pool club family in this photo x)

Our next scheduled meeting is for Monday 17th August, & will now be a Club Presidents Meeting.... If we are able to hold a meeting at the EDPL Office BEFORE 17th August, we will notify you asap. 08.01.2022 Amended EDPL Meeting Dates. The meeting scheduled for August is now cancelled, due to covid lockdown restrictions. The next meeting for Club Presidents, scheduled for 28th September and will hopefully go ahead as planned, but if restrictions are still in place, this meeting may be conducted over Zoom (details to be confirmed).... Monday 28th September is also the closing date for By-Laws motions to be submitted to EDPL, in writing. The by-laws motions will then be issued to clubs/members, and to be voted on at the 9th November meeting. Take care everyone.

There have been a few changes to some divisions points caps, & "new player" point value etc.... *(& Prem Div "New" player point value is now 21*, NOT 20). The updated Player Points Values are on the EDPL Website, now including a decimal point, so points are more accurate. Please be aware of this when calculating your team points totals for Winter 2021 (a good idea to use the "Team Points Simulator" on the website to add up team player player points).

With our 50th year coming up in 2023, we are looking for members past & present to assist with "EDPL...The First 50 Years" (...they said it wouldnt last!)... Its anticipated that we can produce a full history of the Eastern Districts Pool League Inc. For this we would require photographs, memories, anecdotes, interesting facts, milestones etc. This is open to all, & we look forward to your participation. We will endeavor to conduct interviews with all surviving founding members, to record their earliest EDPL memories. 01.01.2022 Here's the **AMENDED EDPL 2021 Pairs Comp FIXTURES (**amended 8-1-21) **CHANGES TO VENUES FOR 4 MATCHES IN 4TH DIV ONLY - changes hi-lited** The Pairs comp starts next Tuesday 12th January 2021.... Matches starting from 7pm onwards, & first 2 frames must have started BY 7:30pm at the latest! There will be 2 tables used for each match, so all 4 players will be playing at the same time. Please keep smoke breaks to a minimum, and don't keep opponents waiting too long between frames. Scoresheets are on EDPL Website. Please follow playing/breaking order, starting with left column, then right column, then doubles. (eg. 1vA & 2vB playing the first 5 frames each, then changing to 1vB & 2vA for the next 5 frames each, follow scoresheet breaking order. Then 1 "Scotch" Doubles frame (lag for break). Number on left of playing week in Fixtures is the "HOME" team for that match. Home team is responsible for notifying EDPL of scores, either phone message, or email BY 10am Wednesday after the match. Home team must lodge scoresheet, either original, copy, or photo/scan/email to EDPL Office BY 4pm Friday after match. On the bottom of page.2 of the Fixtures, there is a list of EDPL Executives who are at each venue, each night (for any queries or disputes). Players are to "Umpire" their own frames as playing, so please be courteous & aware of what's going on, to avoid misunderstandings (..announce balls, nominate when needed, ask/announce touching ball, frozen ball, & total/foul snooker, & wait for confirmation from opponent, as well as foul/2 visits, 2nd Visit, etc). Sportsmanship is of the utmost importance. Please ensure hand hygiene is adhered to, & facemasks worn if required, as well as any other covid related regulations at venues. (you are NOT required to shake hands with your opponent, just a friendly "good luck" will be fine). Thank you to all Pairs Team players who are participating, and to the management & Staff of Potters, Rack-Em-Up, & Whitehorse Club. Invoices will be emailed to pairs teams, for the 5 weeks playing fees. Thank you to those who have already paid playing fees in advance! GOOD LUCK!

01.01.2022 Updated Pairs Comp Info... There's 30 pairs teams entered, 5 divisions, 6 pairs per division. Some division's points caps have altered slightly from the original info sheet.... There were uneven amounts of teams entered in each division, so we've had to put all 30 teams in point order, from highest to lowest, then divide equally into 5 divisions. The Pairs comp will start on Tuesday 12th January - Fixture available soon! We will also announce teams/divisions this week. Each pair will play 1 match per night, 21 frames in total, on 2 tables. Please read all this updated Pairs info, so you're aware of any changes. The Pairs scoresheet is on the EDPL Website.
