22.01.2022 HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY . This iconic day is often celebrated with a backyard bbq with family and friends. A quick health reminder to be aware of the two main risk factors that often lead to food poisoning - undercooked meat and spreading germs from raw meat onto food that's ready to eat. . Ways to prevent the aforementioned include:... . Ensure frozen meat is properly thawed before cooking. . Meat is regularly moved around the barbecue to cook it evenly. . If using a charcoal barbecue, make sure the coals are glowing red with a powdery grey surface before cooking, as this means that they're hot enough. . Stay tuned for more handy hints through out this Australia Day to ensure you as your guests stay healthy and well over this long weekend! . #healtheducation #healthpromotion #communityoutreach #EduHealth #australiaday #healthyhints See more

08.01.2022 ANTIBIOTIC AWARENESS WEEK . Antimicrobial resistance happens when microorganisms (such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites) change when they are exposed to antimicrobial drugs (such as antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, antimalarials, and anthelmintics). Microorganisms that develop antimicrobial resistance are sometimes referred to as superbugs. .... As a result, the medicines become ineffective and infections persist in the body, increasing the risk of spread to others. Without effective antimicrobials for prevention and treatment of infections, medical procedures such as organ transplantation, cancer chemotherapy, diabetes management and major surgery (for example, caesarean sections or hip replacements) become very high risk. . Follow our posts this week for more evidence based information on antimicrobial resistance . #antiobioticresistance #antibioticawarenessweek #superbugs #healtheducation #healthpromotion #antibioticstewardship
