23.01.2022 Weve heard about packing pandemic pounds and COVID19 unmasking a tsunami of shortsightedness due to the sudden increase in close range screen time during quarantine periods. Lead researcher Gareth Lingham from local UWAs Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the Lions Eye Institute, said that without the incidental outdoor exposure that students get before, during and after school or university, there was an increased risk of developing myopia. The solution is simple in principle encourage children, adolescents and young adults, particularly those studying from home, to spend a portion of their time outside, either around the home or exercising outside the home, he said.

17.01.2022 Its WA day - a gentle reminder that we are closed and reopen on Wednesday 3 June 10am. Celebrating WA Day in 2020 Although our traditional WA Day Festival events wont take place across the State this year, theres still plenty for Western Australians to celebrate this WA Day Monday, 1 June.... Our success in fighting COVID-19 has meant the restrictions put in place to slow the spread of the virus have been partially lifted, allowing us West Aussies to enjoy WA Day in groups of up to 20, dine in re-opened cafs, restaurants and pubs, and travel within set borders to support regional communities over the long weekend. Whether its taking a trip to a country or coastal town, going to the local park, watching the west coast sunset, or simply staying in your back yard with friends and family, there are so many ways we can responsibly enjoy ourselves with family and friends and to take time to appreciate all the benefits that living in WA can bring. And dont forget to we can all support local by buying some superb WA produce or by dining at a local caf or restaurant.

15.01.2022 Red, gritty and dry eyes? There are glands along the eyelids that secrete oil (lipids) in to the tear film to help stop tear from evaporating too quickly. 07.01.2022 Lest We Forget. On ANZAC Day today we pay tribute to four Aussie opticians who were ANZAC heroes. The Australian War Memorial says Captain John Needham, one of ...few opticians who appear in the #WW1 ANZAC records, was a father and practising optometrist/refractionist in Richmond, Victoria, who left his business to serve in Gallipoli and France and was recommended for the Military Cross for gallantry at Pozieres. Optician Corporal Gordon Heathcote from Kew (pictured below seated far left) was in the Australian Army Machine Gun Corps and was killed in action in Belgium in 1917; South Melbourne optician Lt George Stanley McIlroy fought at Pozieres and was awarded the Military Cross, and jeweller-optician Lt Arthur Douglas Hogan from Lewisham, NSW, was killed in action at Passchendaele in 1917 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
