25.01.2022 Did you ever have one of those days???. Well poor Dom was doing a 500hr service on a Hitachi ZX120-3 and he found that the normal filter remover just wouldnt cut it so he brought out the strap type which you use with your rachet, so much more grunt can be put behind it ... if you know what I mean. When putting the grunt into it he snapped the nylon webbing on the remover. Not to be detered he then got out a screw driver and punched it through the filter to get it off that ...way. At first the filter started tearing up and it wasnt looking too good for getting it off. He had a few bites at it and at one stage even broke his screwdriver (at least he didnt use one of his good ones). That filter was on tight!!!!!! Persistance paid off and he finally got it off but I have to go to the supplier and get him some new tools. The filter looked like it had been used for target practice at the gun club.

25.01.2022 Recent rain didnt help us with the mud but we still changed out the fan, fan motor and mount on this Peterson 2710D Grinder. The Hiab crane on our truck made lifting out awkward panels a safer task.

25.01.2022 Some bad news for the hydraulic pump in this machine, so out comes the motor and off comes the pump. Hopefully the pump is repairable.

23.01.2022 Snapping a belt can be a pain in the butt, what size hemorrhoid would it be when your belt is 8 meters long? And you have two of them. Well that was the case for this Peterson grinder today, but we got there, replaced the belts and had it going again in no time.

22.01.2022 Doms been drumming up some work .... pardon the pun. The drum roller motor is leaking oil badly and needs to come out. There seems to be no limit to the variety of work that gets done.

22.01.2022 Rubber track change on site.... not a problem

22.01.2022 Today Dom started off just needing to replace a bung manual primer on a Komatsu D155a Dozer. Only just started and was asked to replace the air filter assembly and exhaust assembly. Some heavy lifting was made easy with our Hiab crane and despite some seriously stubborn rusted nuts and bolts the job was done in good time. It was quite hot out there today and the new black parts got super hot in the sun. Gloves are your friend.

22.01.2022 So we have a machine in the workshop that has an issue with the bucket dropping and a tracking issue. For the tracking issue Dom has done testing and discounted some fault options such as the final drive, hes checked a bunch of valves and the diagnosis is at the point where the valve block needs to come out to enable strip down and further diagnostics. Dom rings me to report the situation, Im in the office away from the workshop and just say to him "so take it out". I thi...nk he execised a lot of restraint, he ever so calmly advises me that it would be many hours work just to take it out (let alone strip it down, rebuild it and put it back in); and at the end of the day the problem might be in the pump or another part of the hyraulics. The photos give a clue as to the job involved to get the valve block out. After talking to the customer it was decided not to pursue the fault any further, the tracking issue is more of an inconvenience which should not stop him using it, the cost to fix it is not warranted by the value of the machine. We have however resealed the boom cylinder and are now resealing the dipper arm cylinder so he wont have issues of the bucket dropping anymore. Things dont work out every day, rather than plough on ahead and shock our customers with the bill we like to let them know if we think things are going beyond their expectations.

22.01.2022 Last week travelled to Taree for an urgent final drive repair. Duo cone seals had failed. Working amongst the mud and fighting mosquitos, removed unit & strip down. Replace seals and assemble and put back to work

21.01.2022 We tried the cheapest fix first by dealing with the thermostat but unfortunately this machine was still overheating. Replaced the water pump and blew out the radiator vanes and oil cooler vanes (flow through the radiator was good). That seemed to do the job. All done in the one day and the machine actually got some work done too. We will be replacing the sprockets soon too as the wear is enough for the tracks to jump off when on steep ground. WE also had some mascots keeping quality control. I havent seen these bearded dragons since I was a kid.

21.01.2022 "Just take the tyre off" he says. Working smarter and not breaking your back. Getting access to replace the tunnel extension cylinder of a Roadtec Paver.

21.01.2022 This Komatsu PC228us had some severe overheating problems and cooked the seals inside the main control valve and solenoid bank. Getting the solenoid bank out was ok but there was a lot of work (and I heard swearing as well) getting the main control valve disconnected and out. The hiab on the truck once again proved handy as that solid steel valve would have to be near half a ton in weight. Those parts are now being overhauled and will soon be going back in ...... Im assuming with more swearing.

20.01.2022 Whilst we got the Peterson grinder going pretty quick we werent getting out from the Sharkies construction site at any great speed. Dom is blaming me but who would have known? I took the Keys out of the Ford Rangers ignition to unlock a toolbox in the rear tray, after that I put them in my pocket. Dom was looking for the keys so I dug them out and gave them to him. He had to unlock the cab to get in and, as he was getting what ever he was after he dropped the keys on the d...rivers seat. After finishing the repair on the Peterson grinder we went to leave, only Dom couldnt open the door. The Ute self locked with the keys on the seat. A phone call, $199, and 45 minutes later we were mobile again. ........... were getting another set of keys cut.

19.01.2022 Three services in the rain on Thursday afternoon, not much fun. Apart from the mud and being drenched right through to the skin the slightest hint of oil or grease on the water covered ground resulted in rainbow slicks which were a lot harder to clean up than a drop of oil on dry ground. The effort of keeping water off tools, parts and lubricants slow things down too. As much as we like to keep the customers happy we have to also protect everyones reputation for running environmentally responsible operations. Normally we operate in a workshop in wet weather, but sometimes you just have to suck it up.

19.01.2022 Replacing the two tracks, sprockets and some rollers on this 28 tonne Hitachi. The Hiab on the truck again took out the hard yacka when we rolled up the old tra...ck. The springs on the idler had broken but the owner wanted to get some more life out of them, if they are going to break this is where you want it to happen. See more

18.01.2022 Welding the end-plates back on to the rotor mill of a Peterson 2710D

17.01.2022 Replacing pins and bushes in the boom to bobtatch connections on a Takeuchi TL8. The pins came out fine with a few taps from a heavy hammer but the bushes were a different story. That took heat, porta-power and a sledgehammer. With two machines to do we were on a roll by the time we got to the last bush.

17.01.2022 Working in the rain again ..... when will we learn? This 20 tonne Hitachi had rubbers on every second grouzer plate (someone else put them on) but more protection was needed so we filled in the gaps and replaced a few damaged pads. It makes for an interesting change working alongside the end of Runway 16R at Sydney Airport.

13.01.2022 Always too busy working to remember to take photos to put up on Facebook. We serviced a pair of lift cylinders in the field on a Bobcat T650. Next time Ill take some pics

11.01.2022 Today one of the guys is out repairing a Peterson Grinder. These things cop quite a beating and things do break. In this case we are swapping out broken bolts from the grinders rotomill. The photo of the whole machine is just a file photo form the internet but it shows what the machine does ...... just in case you didnt know.

10.01.2022 Back on the Case ...... a bit of heat and we were able to smash the connection pin out of the track chain. With the track out of the way we could get the idler out. The whole idler assembly will need to be replaced. Now to get all the parts and put it back together.

08.01.2022 A presale inspection, a couple of services on some Bobcats in at Sydney Uni, couple of break-downs and night shift. Pretty typical really but its been a while since we have posted, and I didnt take photos except for the inspection and the grand building at sydney Uni, so heres one of the inspection (heaps taken but I dont want to bore),

08.01.2022 For some reason I couldnt add this clip to the last post, but you can see the rain coming down. Although everything was undone the roller just didnt want to come out. We could see that we could get it out if we just flexed some of the frame but didnt think that was the formal method (ie: you shouldnt have to force it), after contacting the dealership we learnt that is exactly how it comes out. 5 minutes later the roller was out and in the bench for dismantling.

07.01.2022 One of our customers calls up with an urgent breakdown, the hydraulic motor in the crush roller of this grinder is leaking oil badly. So we go out this morning and as soon as we start so does the rain....... we just cant dodge it. Maybe we need to work out in the centre of the state, at least if it rains on us there itll be doing someone some good. The crush roller did finally come out but the motor had to go back to the workshop.

04.01.2022 Hot and dusty, but still ploughing on. Part of decommissioning an asphalt batching plant. Pulling filter cages and bags out and dropping them to the ground............ someone is going to have to clean that up!!!! good on ya Dom. I guess youll be late home for dinner.

02.01.2022 This assembly is off a bitumen emulsion sprayer truck, when sealing roadworks it sprays bitumen emulsion onto the surface prior to asphalt being laid. Whilst technically not a mechanical activity we often find ourselves doing the unusual jobs such as cleaning (melting) off the bitumen spray bar that became clogged. It is part of a whole suite of service we provide the road making industry.

02.01.2022 Today there wasnt anything special about the machine we were working on but rather our customer. We pulled up to find a number of large caravans and fifth wheelers as well as heaps of amusement park equipment. Our customer provides amusement rides for the Easter Show and heaps of other major events, only this year the Corona Virus has his gear sitting idle. Heres hoping he can get his gear out and operating before too long, with over 100 employees he needs to get this gear... working. A couple of photos, a roller coaster that takes 2 weeks to erect, Pirates Revenge (i hope I got that right) canal with one of those spinny rides behind; and what looks like a tug boat that when assembled .... loops the loop. Heaps more but I didnt want to appear rude taking photos. Oh yeah, and a photo of Dom doing some work.

01.01.2022 This Bobcat T870 had a quick hitch cylinder come off the bobtatch which required two new hoses. They must be close to the longest hoses on the machine and to cap it off they needed anti burst sleeves....,, hugely expensive hoses. To top it off the hoses were threaded through the inside of the boom arm along with 4 other hoses so it was a challenge getting the the old ones out, thankfully not so hard getting the new ones in though. We had to remove one of the tilt cylinders to get good access to pull the hoses, it was then that we detected the bobtatch pivot pins and bushes are flogged out. Hard work takes its toll on machines.

01.01.2022 Doing a 500hr service on site for a new customer, another happy customer. We can make more happy customers, just phone 0404 106 975.

01.01.2022 Doing some speed control upgrades on a Peterson 2710D grinder. Its amazing the variety of work our guys do.

01.01.2022 We service them all, this little sheep foot roller is remote controlled and is a RTSC2 ...... I cant stop thinking of R2D2 from Star Wars.

01.01.2022 Replacing tracks and sprockets on this Bobcat T770, the job was made a bit more difficult due to a slow bipass with bucket/arm cylinders and hard caked on clay which had to get chiseled away.

01.01.2022 The idler assembly needs replacing on this machine. A bit more than a days work as we first had to determine the problem. Now the parts have to arrive. These machines do a hard job and every now and then some of that hard work catches up. Well replace the idler assembly and this machine will be back at it.
